This isn't your typical pie as of course with the name itself, it is a little bit sour but when partnered with their moutain tea then it becomes a perfect combination! The interior and facade of his cafe is simple but cozy. You can have a chat with your friends or your family as it doesn't get too noisy their. It is quite small and an intimate place. -> Marlboro Hill and Blue Soil Hill Trekking these 2 hills requires a 4am wake up to catch the shuttle bus to the bottom of Marlboro Hill. A 1 hour trek up a gradual climb takes you to the top where you’ll hope to see the sunrise! But be wary of the classic morning fog that stopped us seeing a clear sunrise. A stall at the top also sells coffee if you need that extra boost! On the way down, see the fog give way to a beautiful pine forest and the trademark Blue Soil Hill. Copper deposits inside the soil give it this unique colour. Multiple stalls selling small bites can be found along the way. Return to the shuttle bus around 9am and head back to town for a well deserved rest! Cost: 2900 pesos which for us was split between 8 people. If you’re travelling alone or in a small group make sure to ask to join an existing bigger group!

Hiking may not strike some people as a relaxing activity because it requires physical exertion and endurance. But it's one of the most rewarding recreational activity that a person can engage in. I have not been to many mountains and I have none to compare Sagada's Kiltepan peak to, but all I can say is it's worth waking up early and wading through the muddy trail to witness the sunrise atop the mountain. I found myself catching my breath, not from the hike, but because of the breathtaking view. #gohiking

Catching the sunset above a sea of clouds… Marlboro Hill is located in Sagada, one of the popular tourist spots in the Philippines. Sharing this once in a lifetime experience.. I know there are other countries with a spectacular view such as this but I would like to share one from my own. Am getting old already so I was thankful I still got to do this before my knees can’t take it, haha! Sagada is accessible by land travel. However, to get to the top of Marlboro Hills, you have to trek uphill. Your fitness level will depend how early you should go there to start the hike. Our group of 5 consists of me, my dad, my son and 2 guides. I have quite bad knees and my dad as well so we had to stop every once in a while during the hike. We started between 3AM to 4AM, if I remember correctly. It took us almost 2 hours of trekking uphill muddy soil. The portable walking sticks I bought from here (SG) came in very handy!!! When we reached the top of Marlboro hill, there were a lot of people already but we still managed to find a good spot. Another anticipated moment aside from watching the beautiful sunrise is the rolling in of the sea of clouds… That was such a sight, capturing it in timelapse! My photos didn’t bring it justice but I managed to have a few good shots. Near the viewing area, there are portable toilets and a few eateries selling coffee, congee, sandwiches, etc. Aside from hiring transport and guide (costs vary), you need to pay a tourism/environmental fee (less than equivalent of SGD3). Following the mountain trail downward leads you to Echo Valley, Sagada’s most iconic and enigmatic destination. I had initially planned to explore on my own, but upon arrival, I learned that a local guide is mandatory for both cultural preservation and safety. After a quick detour back to town to hire one, the initial inconvenience vanished the moment I stepped into this mystical valley, replaced by pure awe. These hanging coffins, hidden deep within the canyon, represent a unique burial tradition of the Igorot people spanning thousands of years. The locals believe that placing coffins high on the cliffs brings the souls of the deceased closer to their ancestors and deities, while also protecting the bodies from scavengers and floods. Interestingly, the elderly often carve their own coffins from solid tree trunks while they are still alive. The deceased are typically placed in a fetal position, symbolizing a return to nature in the same way they entered the world. Today, only a handful of elders still observe this tradition; most of the younger generation has shifted toward modern burial practices. As heavy fog blankets the towering pines and limestone cliffs, the valley falls into a profound silence. Strolling through the streets and alleys of Sagada, the mountain dampness and thick fog arrived as expected. As the mist gradually obscured the distant pine forests and rooftops, the entire town was instantly enveloped in a mysterious and chilling atmosphere reminiscent of *Silent Hill*. Walking slowly along the mountain path, the destination was this century-old landmark hidden deep in the mountains—the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin. Passing through the courtyard, the ancient iron bell (A.D. 1921) hung solemnly between stone frames, its mottled rust recording over a century of the mountain town's history. The towering stone walls and Gothic rose windows appeared and disappeared in the mist, their solemnity compelling one to slow down. Pushing open the wooden doors and entering the church, beneath the warm wooden vaulted ceiling, a crowd gathered in devout prayer. After bumping through countless curves and mountain roads, I finally arrived in Sagada, tucked away in the misty highlands. The town’s signature slow pace and crisp air instantly washed away the exhaustion of the long journey. The first thing I did after hopping off was head straight for the legendary Yoghurt House. Over a bowl of yogurt and snacks filled with the scent of baked goods and fruit, I had a relaxed meet-up with the host of Macbas Apartment. The moment I stepped through the door, I was pleasantly surprised—the space was filled with warm wood tones and a subtle scent of pine. Jeepney charter from the tourist info center ₱500/jeep round-trip (departs 04:00, 15 min up, waits till 06:30), or walk 5 km pre-dawn with a headlamp. Sagada registration fee ₱35/person at the info center (mandatory, pay before any trek). I slept in a ₱600 dorm, registered 03:50, jeep at 04:00. The mossy bit is the last 200 m from the jeep drop to the rim: pine ridge with moss on the log steps 2 cm thick, 11°C at 04:40 in January, a Luzon bush-warbler calling, the valley below already a white sea. At 05:20 the first orange cracked the cloud; by 05:40 the sea-of-clouds rolled and broke over the rice terraces. Two coffee stalls open at 04:30 — I paid ₱80 for a Benguet arabica pour-over, sat on a moss log at the rim, ate a ₱50 kamote cue from the stall, and watched the fog eat the sun again at 06:10. Mistake: I came on a Saturday in April — 300 people on a 20 m clearing, no quiet spot; Tuesday–Thursday or rainy-season weekdays for space. Another: the ₱500 jeep is per-jeep not per-head; find 6 strangers and split 83 PHP each. Would you charter the 04:00 ₱500 jeep for Kiltepan's 05:20 mossy sea-of-clouds + ₱80 Benguet coffee, or skip the crowd and hike Marlboro Hills instead?

Quality time - Great place with Family

📅 Itinerary Day1:Manila to Sagada (~11hrs) The Driver pick us at NAIA T3 around 9:30pm. We are 8 adults in this trip and another friend was pick up in SM Pampanga, so total of 9 persons + coordinator and driver. We arrived in Sagada around 9am the next day but during the trip we had two stops for toilet break. Sagada have zigzag road, so better to bring medicine to avoid dizziness, headache and vomiting. After we check in at Kunyaps our local tour guide (Kuya Aladin) arrive for us to start the Sagada tour. 📍Sumaging Cave (first place to visit which needs 2-3hrs), wear comfortable slipper and used dry bag for your things. Connecting cave needs 5hrs (Sumaging Cave to Luntian Cave) but we did not avail this as it took longer time. For those who cannot join, can stay in front of the cave where there is a store to buy snacks and wait for others. 📍Blue Soil (second place to visit which needs 3hrs.) This blue soil was discovered by Angel Locsin and made as a tourist spot. Before starting the hike, we had “brunch here” less than 200php per menu. Then, going up is ~1.5hrs same as going down. But it depends on your speed as we have a senior in family (my mom, she is 77years old). On top, also have stores to buy snacks and stay a little longer to relax. 2 places for this day then back to our AirBnB and rest for 1hr. then had dinner to the town (salt and pepper). Day2: Sagada 📍Marlboro Hill (Sea of Clouds and Sunrise Viewing) We started our day at 4:30am as we need to hike to the first place to watch the sunrise. We hike 1.5hrs up and 1.5hrs down. On top have stores to buy arrozcaldo or congee and other snacks. 📍 Hanging Coffin & Echo Valley 2in1 place, we just take a look for a hanging coffin. Last funeral they had was 2010 then used it for a tourist spot. Then, we had “brunch” at SM (Sagada Market) and each set meal ranges from 200-250php. 📍Bomod-Ok Falls Last place we visited where I am so proud with my mom (77years old), she’s able to walk up and down a total of 22k steps. The falls are huge and waters are so cold, wherein my mom took swim as well. 🙏💪👍 Also, have store nearby where can buy snacks. Then, at dinner we just cook by ourselves. Day3: Sagada to Baguio Trip We cooked breakfast before leaving. Then, proceed to Baguio. 🏨 Accommodation Sagada: Kunyaps AirBnB (5mins away from the town) overlooking view. 🍴 Food Recommendations Sagada: Salt&Pepper (Specialty: Chicken Pinikpikan) 📌 Tips 💊for dizziness, headache and vomiting. 🍶🥨🍫 must have water and snacks to sustain your strength. 💸 bring cash as internet connection is slow in Sagada. 👙🧢👚🩳🩴 bring clothes to use for Sumaging Cave and Bomod-Ok Falls. make sure to wear comfortable footwear too as you do the hiking often. 🚗🏩 Better if have a contact to help you for the land transfer and AirBnB which is cheaper and accessible. #falladventures #travel #familytravel There was no crowd in the early afternoon of a Sunday. Perhaps Mass celebrations are scheduled later. Just like any other Catholic church in the country, this place of worship has a peaceful vibe and serenity. I whispered a thanksgiving prayer for setting foot for the first time. The architecture is simple, nothing impressive compared to the baroque churches up north. Its cream-colored facade, devoid of any ornaments, reflects that of the white ceiling inside, which lacks any visual art as well. A beggar was carrying a sleeping child at the main door, who was spewing expletives at the caretaker, who was trying to make her leave. it was a painful sight. I heard about an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary that happened here some decades ago. I had no idea if this was recognized by the Church authorities. Located not far from the impressive metropolitan cathedral of Lipa City, this church is very simple in comparison. However, it has an interesting history since it is associated with an alleged apparition of the BVM in 1948. In the side chapel (on the left side of the main altar) you'll find a statue of the BVM associated with the said event. We would have loved to see the monastery adjacent to the church and its garden (where the said event happened), but it was closed when we visited the place. After a coffee and hot banana we did the fabulous walk up in the dark - with no moon. The guide brought lights for us and was very knowledgeable. Great views at sunrise, we watched a male Asian White Breasted Woodpecker hammering a tree for 15 minutes on the way down. Priceless!! We made a standard tour to the Malboro Hills at sunrise with hike to the Blue Soil. Unfortunately, the weather was not great. It was a bit foggy, which is why we couldn't see the sunrise. Although there were individual "Malboro Hills" to see, we were partly in the cloud sea and not over it. My parents still liked it (they don't know what it might look like either :D). The hike to the Blue Hills is easily done, but a certain certain certain gait is certainly an advantage. The Blue Soil looks exactly like the photos, a slightly bluish stone floor. Walked first through a normal cemetery developed by the Americans in the early 19th century and then down the mountain to get to the hanging coffins. Impressive to see and especially the knowledge that there are just deceased people in there. They built temporary scaffolding with logs to hang the boxes and then everything was taken away and so no one can reach them. It was very interesting to see the coffins and hear their story. The coffins are located in Echo Valley. After visiting the coffins we made a tour further through Echo Valley with river crossing. We recommend all suitable shoeswek (sandals, flip flops) who want to walk even further through the valley after the coffins.
