Roslin travel guide and discussion

📍 Rosslyn Chapel 🧭 A magical old chapel built in 1446 by the Sinclair family, and still used for religious ceremonies today. ✨ The interior is filled with incredibly detailed stone carvings, masterpieces of art, with many strange symbols, giving rise to numerous mysteries. It's famous for being a key setting in The Da Vinci Code. 👉 But! Historians confirm that most of the Knights Templar/Holy Grail stories are “fiction.” 😄 💸 Entrance fee (approximate update): Adults ~ £12 (~550 THB) Children free 📸 Quiet, mystical, beautiful lighting. The details are so numerous you can admire every corner. I can honestly say it's “small but incredibly magnificent.” ⚠️ Important! ❌ No photography inside. It gets quite crowded, especially for those interested in the Da Vinci Code. About 1–1.5 hours is a good amount of time to visit. 🌿 The location is about 30 minutes from Edinburgh. Easily accessible by bus or car. 👉 Perfect for history buffs, photography enthusiasts, and those following in the footsteps of movies. #RosslynChapel #Edinburgh #ScotlandTrip #DaVinciCode #ScotlandAttractions #MysterySeekers #GetDiscountsWithoutLuck

#Visit architecture Rosslyn chapel is an old church near the city of Edinburgh. The outside is beautiful, but the inside is even more beautiful. The church does not allow taking pictures inside. I took pictures from the photos that the church uses to show tourists inside. Admission fee for adults is £ 10.50 per person. Children under 15 years old are free. If you are ready to see the beauty of the place, let's follow the pictures. #100 ways to travel

This coffee shop is surprisingly good. We stopped there before the visit. You can admire the view from your table. The building is very beautiful and totally in theme of the Chapel. The chocolate brownie was very good but the carrot cake is the big winner. They also sell sandwiches or teas. I recommend to get a table next to the windows. The staff was very helpful and polite. #passionpassport #davincecode #rosslynchapel #edinburgh #scotland #coffee

I went to Rosslyn Chapel this weekend for a quick afternoon visit. You can get to Rosslyn by taking bus number 37 towards Penicuik on Princes Street. The bus ride takes approximately 50 minutes. The entry costs 9.5 euros per adult. The church is quite small but very ornate. It is one of the most beautiful church I have ever seen. I hope you can take my word for it 🤣🙈 ...please note it is forbidden to take pictures inside the church. The history of the building is quite impressive (you can learn more about it before the visit by solving the riddles). Do not miss the basement as it is where they have pictures of the actor of The Da Vinci Code, as well as one of the room where they filmed. #davincecode #edinburg #scotland#rosslynchapel#spooktaculartrip#passionpassport

I share my travel experience to everyone who dreams of experiencing Scotland in its most magical, amber-hued season. Wandering through Edinburgh during autumn feels like stepping directly into a living fairytale. The crisp October air brings out a rich palette of deep crimson, fiery orange, and golden amber, framing the historic stone architecture in every direction. My adventure began strolling down the rain-glistening steps near Edinburgh Castle, where fallen leaves created a colorful carpet underfoot and the dramatic fortress towered above framed by golden foliage. Princes Street Gardens offers an incredible vantage point, but walking along the Water of Leith toward Dean Village felt like unlocking a secret storybook town. The historic red-sandstone buildings and picturesque stone bridges wrapped in turning ivy make every turn completely spellbinding. If you are looking for hidden spots away from the usual crowds, I cannot recommend Carlowrie Castle and the surrounding historic chapels enough. Seeing a Scottish castle or church completely engulfed in vibrant, crimson-red ivy leaves contrast against gray stone is an unforgettable sight. A great local tip for taking photos is to explore right after a light autumn shower. The wet cobblestones reflect the dramatic autumn sky and vivid tree canopies, creating a Moody, romantic vibe that captures Edinburgh’s authentic spirit. For a quiet, relaxing afternoon, head up toward the Royal Botanic Garden or wander the peaceful paths near Rosslyn Chapel, where towering ancient trees shed brilliant leaves over centuries-old stonework. To get the most out of your autumn escape, pack a cozy trench coat, bring a sturdy umbrella, and wear comfortable walking boots for navigating wet stone steps and leafy park trails. End your autumn walks by ducking into a warm, wood-paneled pub along the Royal Mile or near Circus Lane for a hot spiced cider or a hearty Scottish meal. Watching the amber light fade over the city spires while warm pub lights begin to glow across the mist is pure magic. Edinburgh in the fall captures a cozy warmth unlike anywhere else, making it an absolute bucket-list destination for leaf-peepers and cozy travel lovers alike. #AutumnInEdinburgh #EdinburghTravel #ScotlandInAutumn #FallColors #ExploreScotland #DeanVillage #EdinburghCastle #TravelStory #Wanderlust #fallcolors

We embarked on an 8-day/7-night private tour with Paul King as a group of three, traveling through Edinburgh, Fort William, the Isle of Skye, and Inverness. The experience was unforgettable. Paul ensured our trip was stress-free, comfortable, personalized, and filled with fun. The pace was ideal—busy days, but never overwhelming. His deep knowledge of Scottish history, engaging stories, and passionate stance on Scottish independence brought the country to life for us. With his down-to-earth nature, humor, and enjoyable company, he made our journey truly special. Paul was highly punctual, flexible, and attentive to our needs. My husband faces balance challenges, and Paul took care to avoid spots with difficult stairs and uneven steps. He accommodated bathroom breaks seamlessly and ensured we never felt rushed or burdened. His thoughtfulness extended to managing our itinerary around the weather, maximizing the enjoyment of each day. Traveling in Paul's spacious and luxurious Mercedes van was a pleasure, and his excellent driving skills on Scotland's narrow single-track roads made us feel safe and relaxed. Paul frequently went above and beyond, guiding us to hidden Highland gems, a delightful yarn shop off the beaten path, authentic local lunch spots, and even driving us to dinner in Portree when taxis weren’t available. On one of our free days in Edinburgh, he generously offered to take us to Rosslyn Chapel. This wasn't a standard cookie-cutter tour—Paul tailored each day to our preferences and made the journey extraordinary. The collection of cherished memories he helped us create is unforgettable. We were genuinely reluctant for the trip to end and wish Paul offered tours in other countries! We highly recommend Paul King without reservation.

This year, my adult daughter and I decided on Scotland for our girls’ trip. We spent four amazing days with Barney, who guided us through Glencoe and the Highlands, St. Andrew’s and Glamis Castle, Roslyn Chapel and North Berwick, as well as Stirling Castle and Loch Lomond. Barney is exceptionally knowledgeable, passionate, and punctual, with a talent for storytelling. He planned a diverse and fantastic trip for us, even picking us up from the airport! Thank you, Barney—we’re so grateful to have met you.

Craig is absolutely amazing—fun, knowledgeable, funny, patient, and so much more! I've been on two previous trips with Craig as the guide, and that's exactly why I picked him for this trip. Once again, he didn’t disappoint! This journey took us from Dublin to various destinations in Ireland, a ferry ride to Scotland, a stunning visit to The Orkney Islands, then Roslyn Abbey and Abbotsford, finishing in Edinburgh for the Tattoo. Thanks so much, Craig! Can't wait for the next adventure!

Edinburgh is spectacular. But here’s a little secret: some of the most memorable places around the city aren’t actually in the city at all. Drive for half an hour or so and the scenery begins to change. Medieval ruins appear among green fields, dramatic coastlines open onto the North Sea and quiet hills stretch towards the horizon. If you have a spare day in Edinburgh, these four places are worth escaping the city for. 1. North Berwick Start by heading east towards the coast. North Berwick is the kind of seaside town that immediately makes you slow down. There’s a beautiful harbour, sandy beaches, little cafés and enormous views across the Firth of Forth. But the real star is Bass Rock, rising dramatically from the sea offshore. On a clear day, it looks almost like a giant piece of Scotland has been dropped into the water. Walk along the coast, explore the harbour and, if you have time, head towards nearby Tantallon Castle for one of the most dramatic coastal views in East Lothian. 2. Rosslyn Chapel Then head south towards something completely different. Rosslyn Chapel looks like it belongs in a fantasy novel. Built in the 15th century, the small stone chapel is covered with incredibly detailed carvings. Look closely and you’ll find animals, plants, symbols and mysterious details carved into the stone. The atmosphere inside is wonderfully atmospheric. Whether or not you believe the legends surrounding the chapel, there’s no denying that it feels like a place with secrets. 3. Cramond Island For something a little more adventurous, head towards Cramond. At low tide, a causeway stretches across the water towards Cramond Island, allowing you to walk across to explore the shoreline and remnants of its military history. But check the tide times carefully before going. The causeway disappears beneath the water when the tide comes in, and you definitely don’t want your relaxing day trip turning into an unexpected swim back to Edinburgh. When the conditions are right, though, it’s a brilliant little adventure. 4. Pentland Hills Finally, leave the coast behind and head into the hills. The Pentland Hills feel surprisingly wild considering how close they are to Edinburgh. Walking trails lead through open countryside, past reservoirs and across hills with sweeping views back towards the city. Go around sunset if you can. As the light fades across the hills, Edinburgh begins to appear in the distance, and you suddenly realise just how close you still are to the capital. That’s what makes these places so special. You don’t need to travel hours from Edinburgh to find adventure. Sometimes, all it takes is a short journey in the right direction. One day you’re exploring a historic capital. The next, you’re standing beside a Scottish coastline, walking across an island or looking over endless green hills. And honestly, that’s the Edinburgh trip I’d choose. #travel2026#travel#couplestrip#staycation#thingstodo#myitinerary#citydaytours

I met Caitriona Stevenson 10 years ago during a fantastic Outlander tour and recently booked with her again for three tours at different cruise ship ports. In Greenock, Scotland, we visited Roslyn Chapel and nearby towns. In Inverness, Scotland, we explored Dunrobin Castle, enjoyed a falcon and hawk show, admired the Scottish countryside, and saw Highland cows. The area is stunning, and Cat is incredibly knowledgeable about Scottish history. She is a wonderful guide who ensures plenty of time at each site. Her father, Tim Stevenson, led a full-day Beatles tour in Liverpool, covering Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane, the places where the Beatles met and performed, including the Cavern Club and the Beatles Museum by the Mersey River. We had lunch at the Philharmonic, notable as the location of Paul McCartney’s surprise concert, which you can even watch on YouTube. Both Cat and Tim possessed an incredible wealth of knowledge. The tours were comfortable, unrushed, and included fantastic lunch stops with some of the best fish and chips around. I loved every moment exploring Scotland without the stress of large bus tours, and the pricing was excellent!

I can’t praise the exceptional team at Heart of Scotland Tours enough. On two different trips to Edinburgh, we’ve booked multiple private full-day tours with them to destinations like the Highlands, St Andrews, Rosslyn Chapel, and more. Their guides are knowledgeable locals, well-versed in all facets of Scottish history and culture. A special thanks to Nick and his team, as well as our guide James, who made our most recent visit truly unforgettable.

Rosslyn Chapel.#travel2026 #rosslynchapel this was such a beautiful chapel filled with intricate carvings and legends. The talk at 2.30pm by the staff was very informative.

A visit to Rosslyn Chapel feels like stepping into a space where history, mystery, and craftsmanship intersect. Located just outside Edinburgh, the chapel is relatively small, but its scale is deceptive given the extraordinary level of detail inside. Every surface is covered in intricate carvings, ranging from biblical scenes to symbolic and possibly esoteric imagery, which makes the experience feel dense and immersive. The famous Apprentice Pillar stands out in particular, not only for its elaborate design but also for the legend attached to it, adding a layer of narrative intrigue to the visual impact. The atmosphere inside is calm and reflective, enhanced by the restriction on photography, which encourages visitors to engage more closely with the space. Guided talks and interpretation materials are informative and help contextualise both the historical background and the myths that have come to surround the chapel over time. The surrounding area, including nearby woodland walks, complements the visit and offers a quieter moment to reflect after exploring the interior. Overall, Rosslyn Chapel is a compelling and slightly enigmatic destination—less about grandeur and more about detail, symbolism, and the experience of looking closely.#travel2026 #scotland

Scotland! What can I say?! I had a blast, my first solo travelling trip, didn't get to do half of what I wanted to but it's a good reason to go back. Being there while Fringe Festival was amazing, everything is more expensive but that's to be expected, people travel from all over the world for Fringe, it's a month long Festival so plenty to get your teeth into. Edinburgh is incredible, the architecture, the history, the people; amazing! Rosslyn Chapel, a massive highlight, means a lot to me personally due to reasons so seeing it was just sublime, unreal! Loved the night-life (I don't go clubbin' these days, being 41, but doing it there was a new experience). I'm going again, sooner than later. As a horror-guy, the late-night underground Southbridge Vaults Terror Tour was very enjoyable, highly recommend if you love history and spooky stuff, the tour guide we had was very humorous. Waverly Station is a madness, but once you get some trains you do find your way round quite easily, Glasgow Central is MUCH easier, haha! Visited the Spider-Man: Brand New Day film set, took photos of loads of props used in the movie, and was on set the next day while filming took place. I ate a LOT of very good food too, which was fulfilling. 10/10 trip.

The vibes are amazing, they're always buzzing with energy, and the staff are so friendly and welcoming that the coffee is good. The interior design is modern and stylish, creating a really relaxing atmosphere. It's the perfect spot to grab a coffee and catch up with friends. Overall, I highly recommend Rosslyn Cafe. It's a great place to go for a delicious coffee, tasty snacks, and a fun and vibrant atmosphere. #londontravel #couplestrip #thingstodo

Edinburgh is the perfect place to visit during the holiday season but of course this means that the crowds are going to be high. If you want to escape this there are a good number of options. These options include the wonderful medieval Rosslyn Chapel which has been made even more famous by the Da Vinci code novel Another option is heading to North Queensferry which has a delightful high street a well as fantastic views of the Forth Road Bridge #magicalxmastrip #edinburgh

A single book, 'The Da Vinci Code', has shrouded the church in the small town of Roslin, just south of Edinburgh, in mystery and made this ancient church world-famous, also turning it into a favorite spot for book lovers to check in. This time coming to Scotland, I made a special trip to visit the church. Compared to those ancient churches in Europe, this church is not very large, and its ochre stone walls are covered with the mottled traces of time. The interior decoration of the church is not luxurious, but it is very exquisite, with a dazzling array of stone carvings that are of great artistic value. Unfortunately, photography is not allowed inside the church, so I can only show you the outside of the church. Since its construction in the 15th century, the church has always been obscure until the publication of 'The Da Vinci Code'. The book claims that the mummy of Jesus is hidden in this church and that the Holy Grail was once escorted here by the Knights Templar. As a result, the church and the entire town have become the hottest tourist destinations in Edinburgh. In fact, the builders of the church were not the Knights Templar mentioned in the book, and the crypt of the church does not contain any secret underground chambers, and the Rose Line mentioned in the book is not Roslin. Of course, whether it's true or not doesn't seem to matter that much anymore.

#Must-visit check-in spots in the UK Roslin Glen Country Park is a natural park. When you first arrive at the cliff, you will see a spectacular waterfall with splashing water. Follow the trail down to the bottom of the waterfall and feel the mighty force, the waves crashing against the shore, and the thundering sound of water. Then we came to the nearby lake area, where we saw rippling water, endless sound of waves, and green shade surrounding Yiyi Aiwa. The lakeside is well-equipped, with people fishing and families having picnics, and the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. The trip was pleasant. This park is dominated by water, creating an ultimate natural water experience. If you come here with your family, you can always enjoy many such beautiful scenery.

Nestled in the picturesque Scottish countryside, the 15th-century Rosslyn Chapel beckons explorers with its intriguing mix of history, mystery, and stunning architecture. These knowledgeable guides weave stories about the Knights Templar, medieval craftsmanship, and the chapel's role in Dan Brown’s novel The Da Vinci Code. Marvel at intricate carvings that adorn the chapel's interior, each telling a story. Don't miss the Apprentice Pillar, a masterpiece with its own legend, or the mysterious crypt below. The Da Vinci Code Dan Brown’s novel catapulted Rosslyn Chapel into the global spotlight, with the story’s finale taking place within its walls. Explore the connections between the novel's enigmatic codes and Rosslyn’s real-life mysteries. Getting There Just a short drive from Edinburgh, Rosslyn Chapel is conveniently accessible. Hop on a bus, join a guided tour, or opt for a scenic drive to this ancient gem. Rosslyn Chapel promises an enchanting journey into the past, where codes, legends, and history intertwine. Whether you're a history buff or a code-cracking enthusiast, this Scottish treasure is sure to leave you fascinated and inspired.

After visiting the Rosslyn Chapel, it is a good idea to go on this walk. The start of the path is very close to the Chapel. The walk will take you around 1 hour and 30 minutes. This is also a very easy walk to do! You can easily follow the instructions and not get lost (you just have to follow the map). Some of the landmarks are the Gunpowder factory, the river and the picnic tables (I will bring food next time). Please note that the castle is currently being renovated. So it is difficult to get nice pictures of it. #edinburg #fallingforfall #mountainview #nationalpark #scotland #scotland_greatshots #roslin
