My route is simple: head straight to Laoshan in the morning. Don’t squeeze onto the cable car at Jufeng; take the Yangkou trail instead. The shade is thick and solid. When you reach halfway up the mountain, a breeze dries your sweat instantly. Have a bowl of seafood noodles at the foot of the mountain for lunch—it’s half the price of the shops at the scenic area entrance. At 3 PM, stroll to the Zhanqiao pier. The sun isn’t harsh at this time, seagulls circle around Huilan Pavilion, and you can smell the salty sea air at the pier. In the evening, visit Qingdao Olympic Sailing Marine Culture Tourism Area. Take it slow if your knees aren’t strong. 08 Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture | Qinghai Yushu is the kind of place where you need a down jacket in summer. I went in mid-July. Find a local guide to take you. On the way to Sonam Dargye Protection Station, you can see Tibetan antelope and wild donkeys. The mountain trails are quiet, with only birdsong and rustling bamboo leaves. After a walk, visit the Dazu Rock Carvings. The Baodingshan carvings are shaded by trees, much more comfortable than being out in the sun. ⚠️ Remember, avoid outdoor activities from noon to 3 PM. Instead, take shelter under the eaves of Beishan Rock Carvings and admire the Song Dynasty statues. The slanting light makes them look ten times better than at noon. Turn into a side alley like Niujia Lane, find a noodle shop, and order shrimp noodles. The shrimp are fresh and sweet, the noodles chewy—that’s a true Suzhou summer. 🌿 Visit Tiger Hill in the evening, enter from the north gate and exit the south gate. It’s downhill and easy. At the pagoda, the breeze from Sword Pool cools you instantly. ⚠️ Be cautious of “silk shops” on Guanqian Street. Most are tourist traps. For real silk, go to a big mall. 8️⃣ Liuzhou | Guangxi Liuzhou is not just famous for snail noodles but also for its scenery that makes you want to stay. 🚤 The night cruise on the Liu River is better than you expect.
