Symbol of Myanmar | Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, one of the three major ancient sites in Southeast Asia of Buddhism's Light.
Shwedagon Pagoda, also known as the Golden Pagoda, was first built in 585 BC and has undergone repairs and renovations over the years. The current height of the pagoda is 112 meters and the circumference of the base is 427 meters. It is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar, as it enshrines relics of four Buddhas. Along with Indonesia's Borobudur Temple and Cambodia's Angkor Wat, it is known as one of the "Three Great Monuments of Southeast Asia" and is a world-renowned symbol of Myanmar.
The Shwedagon Pagoda is located on the Dinggudala Mountain in the Inya Lake area of Yangon. Built in the pre-Christian era, the Shwedagon Pagoda has a history of more than 2,500 years and is the oldest pagoda in Myanmar. According to legend, the Burmese merchants Ko Gada Putta brothers brought back eight strands of Buddha's hair from India and presented them to the Burmese king, who ordered the construction of the pagoda in this ancient fishing village to preserve the Buddha's hair. When it was first built, the pagoda was only about 20 meters high, but after more than 2,000 years of repairs and expansions, it has become what it is today. The main tower is over 100 meters high, surrounded by walls, with entrances on all four sides. The south gate is the main entrance, and there is now an elevator for tourists to visit. There are more than 70 marble steps that lead up to the main tower platform. There is a small stone tower at each corner of the platform, with the main tower in the middle. The main tower is covered in pure gold foil, with over 5,000 diamonds and more than 2,000 precious stones embedded in the top. A wind chime hangs from the top of the tower, and when the wind blows, it rings out a pleasant sound that spreads in all directions. There are also two large bells hanging in the pagoda courtyard. According to legend, ringing the bells three times can make your wishes come true. The Burmese people regard the Shwedagon Pagoda as a holy site of Buddhism and a source of national pride. The Shwedagon Pagoda, along with Indonesia's Borobudur Temple and Cambodia's Angkor Wat, is one of the famous wonders of the East.
In April 2019, I traveled to Myanmar and had the privilege of visiting the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. Together with the locals, I devoutly prayed under the scorching noon sun, feeling the Buddha's light. It's an unforgettable experience till now!

as visitors are not allow to wear shoes in the compound, I bring along a reusable bag rather than plastic bag, to carry along my shoes. instead to buy bottle water at the site, I bring along my own water bottle to cut down the use of plastic bottle.
the entire place is very holy . the statues and buildings are majestic and magnificent. it’s better to visit early in the morning when it’s not so hot .

Shwedagon Pagoda - Myanmar 🇲🇲
Shwedagon Pagoda is a popular and impressive temple which you should visit if you are in Yangon. The whole visit, including walking around and taking pictures should last between 1 to 2 hours. The building is well preserved. The special materials and features of this building let you really understand the opulence, magnificence and power of the country in the golden times.
I strongly recommend to visit this place during the day and during the night time, the lights makes the whole place to look stunning. Remember to remove your shoes to walk inside the building. One advantage is that this place closest very late. It is open to the public from 6:00 am until 10:00 PM.

Glorious Temple in city centre
#createwithtrip
Shwedagon Pagoda is one of the most recognisable temple in the world. From Exterior you just feel like it is a pagoda fully cladded with Gold. Some shinning and beautiful. The Pagoda is situated on Singuttara Hill in the centre of Yangon. It is the most sacred Buddhist Temple in Myanmar. I visited this place few times when it was more accessible few years back. It was mesmerising to me and others worshipers and tourists alike.
It is dated back to 14th century and believed to enshrine the bodily relics of Buddha.
The whole site is mammoth, you will take at least a few hours in this glorious places and the place is fully packed with people every day especially during the special occasion such as the birthdate of Buddha.
The main Pagoda is 326 feet tall above the city and the plated the solid gold. simply unthinkable.
Strongly recommended. A must see in Myanmar.
Must Visit Site in Myanmar -Shwedagon
#createwithtrip to the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar, Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. It is believed that the construction started 2,500 years ago, which would make it the oldest Buddhist stupa in the world. The stupa was built to house relics of Buddha.
Best time to visit is an hour before sunset as the place does not have much sheltered areas and it can get quite hot in the afternoon. Plan for 1.5 hours for your visit, it’s great to sit and watch the world goes by while waiting for the pagoda to be at it’s most beautiful moment during sunset. It’s very calming place too.

Shwedagon Pagoda officially named Shwedagon Zedi Daw, Yangon City, Myanmar.
One of many Pagodas around Yangon City. According to tradition, the Shwedagon Pagoda was constructed more than 2,600 years ago, which would make it the oldest Buddhist stupa in the world.
A definite landmark and a must visit. Suggestion is to visit close to sunset to catch the pagoda reflect the changing light. Stay through till nightfall (the temple is open till late) to watch the effect of the golden pagoda as it bathes first in fading natural light, and next, in electric floodlight. Experience the rituals, sights and sounds of Buddhist Burma (Myanmar) here, as locals visit to worship. Watch solitary monks in meditation, young monks sitting in worship.

In 2005, due to military defense and many other reasons, the capital of Myanmar moved from Yangon to Naypyidaw. This young capital city is now like an empty city;
there is a golden tower, called Nebi The Grand Tower is a replica of the Yangon World Peace Pagoda in 2009. Since the white elephant is a beast of the Burmese, on the side of the Shwedagon Pagoda, several large white elephants were housed. Although the Yangon Peace Pagoda is relatively famous for a long time, the Nayotadu Golden Pagoda has won by scale, luxurious style, and both inside and outside are decorated with gold, which is the landmark building of Nay Pyi Taw.
The Golden Pagoda stands on a mountain bag. In addition to the front stone steps, it can be upgraded. There are also air corridors that extend out, and the top is connected to the vertical elevator. The Jinta is surrounded by a wide platform, standing on the platform and overlooking the city. The
jinta is hollow and people can enter the inner Buddha. Inside the Jinta, the Buddha is carved into a Buddhist scripture and a Buddhist story. There are giant pillars in the sky. The giant pillars are divided into Buddha statues on both sides. They can worship the Buddha statues according to the wishes of the people. Of course, they can also turn to the four Buddha statues. Top ceremony. There was no incense in the tower, and there was no place to pray for it. There were only a few carpets on the ground, and people sat on the carpet and watched the worship silently.
When I arrived at the Shwedagon Pagoda, the storm just passed, and the reflection in the ground water gave her a better posture and unique beauty!
The Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon and the Borobudur Tower in Indonesia and the Angkor Wat in Cambodia are called the three major monuments in Southeast Asia. The Burmese people regard it as a national pride because it enshrines many treasures of the world, such as Sakyamuni. Nie's eight heirs, detaining the Sun Buddha's staff, are waiting for the clean water of the Buddha, the Buddha's shackles. Looking far and wide, the Golden Pagoda is like an inverted clock. The whole tower is 112 meters high and is spread on 115 square meters. The most amazing thing is that the tower is covered with more than 1,000 pieces of pure gold foil. When the lantern was first set up, the whole building looked like a castle in a fairy tale. The treasure was flashing and solemn and luxurious. The night of the Shwedagon Pagoda is the most beautiful time of the day. Thousands of Buddhist believers pray here piously. The fragrance in the hands is stained with the light of the Yingyin fire candle. The smell of the agarwood is scattered all the time. The tired heart seems to find the destination. Generally, to calm down.
Myanmar is a country of stupa with 200,000 large and small pagodas, the most famous of which is the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. Moreover, the top of the tower is all made of gold. The 1260 kg metal umbrella is set with dazzling gems, diamonds, jade, especially the golden bells that make the sound of the sound in the breeze, the sound of silver bells, from all over the world. The tourists leaked a kind of envy and obsession. The Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon is the jewel of world architecture and the most expensive pagoda in history. In Myanmar, every day, believers and tourists from all over the world prayed devoutly on the hot marble under the scorching sun. After a long history, the Yangon Shwedagon Pagoda has been repaired again and again, becoming more magnificent and magnificent. The Shwedagon Pagoda became the first holy place for tourists to come to Myanmar. It has been said that if you dont go to the Shwedagon Pagoda in Myanmar, you cant say that you have actually been to Myanmar.
The sun in the afternoon is a little sun-baked, so be sure to prepare sunscreen when you go out. In the afternoon, I went to Myanmar to play, and I went out to the security check. After passing this gate, I went to another country: Myanmar, a country with a strong cultural atmosphere.
Myanmar Temple in Myanmar, picking up the stairs and seeing a few nuns in the devout chanting, did not notice that there were tourists. Many temples in China are not allowed to take pictures. I asked what I could take before taking pictures. Looking at their focus, they even slowed down their steps, for fear that they would disturb their chanting.
It is the earliest commemorative building of overseas Chinese in Myanmar and perhaps one of the earliest commemorative buildings of overseas Chinese groups around the world. From the Meng to the same dynasty, the dynasties of the kings of Myanmar, all of them used this place as the capital, which was the political, economic and cultural center of Myanmar at that time. Since ancient times, there have been many people living here.

A must-see in Myanmar
Shwedagon Pagoda is a mandatory stop for any visitors going to Myanmar.
One of the most (if not the most) important site for Buddhism located in the heart of Yangon. Access is really easy for foreigners and even includes an elevator.
The price has however increased from 10'000 to 20'000 (10 USD at official rates) which is still worth it but a steep increase.
Plenty of tout guides can be hired on the spots decent English levels.
