Night Festival 2023 at Armenian Street
#mysgmemories
The yearly night festival back. As usual it
stretches along the bras basah bugis precinct in Singapore.
This year is the 14th edition and the theme is
Singapore, the Great Port City. Usually I will be
starting my route from National Museum as I alight at Dhoby Ghaut station. However this year we started from Funan, and thus visited the Armenian street side first, we saw the Children’s museum and the mini festival village, with small performance going on.
The Peranakan Museum that was previously close for renovations has also reopened!
We felt that the night festival was a little smaller than usual despite borders being reopened, no complains though, because its free!
A peek of Peranakan Culture & Artifacts
After nearly four long years of renovation, Peranakan Museum reopens with a refreshed exhibit. Dedicated to the Peranakan culture and houses the finest collection of Peranakan artifacts - hybrid Southeast Asian culture; made up of Chinese, Malay and Indian elements, that are brought to life such as jewelry, furniture and textiles.
⏰ Daily 10am - 7pm (Fri until 9pm)
💰 Free for Singaporean/PR and children 6y and below. $12 for tourists and residents. $8 for foreign students and seniors

Really beautiful place and absolutely fascinating. I knew a little bit before I went, but it turns out, of course, that I knew hardly anything. Really beautifully curated. We loved the video on the ground floor with the people talking about their experiences and their life.
Two small things - the video next to the jewellery and embroidery (with Raymond Wong) needs to have subtitles please. Couldn't hear what they were saying.
And I do think it needs a bigger more expansive shop. I would have loved to buy a magnet or keyring with the batik designs or pictures of the embroidery. Or t shirts or jewellery or literally anything. The shop there is v classy and expensive and doesn't sell a huge amount suitable for a tourist like me.
They are my only suggestions, otherwise I think this place is a must-visit when you're in Singapore if you're interested in the multiculturalism and social history of it
To understand Singaporean culture, one must not miss this century-old building
📝 Singapore Travelogue part10: Peranakan Museum 📝
🖼🖼🖼🖼
The Peranakan Museum, is an essential destination for anyone looking to delve into the Peranakan culture of Singapore. The Peranakan culture refers to the descendants born from marriages between foreign traders who came to Southeast Asia centuries ago and local women in Singapore. The essence of Peranakan culture is 'fusion', and here one can witness the blend of Chinese, Malay, and Indian cultures that have shaped Singapore. With three floors and ten galleries, the museum showcases various aspects of Peranakan culture and is well worth a visit👍👍👍.
📷📷📷📷
Besides the exhibits, the architecture of the museum itself is also a major highlight. It was originally the Tao Nan School, built in the style of a colonial bungalow in 1912 during the Straits Settlements period, a true century-old ancient building and one of Singapore's national monuments. There's even a cute sculpture of a lucky museum cat at the entrance.

Peranakan Mansion in Penang Malaysia
#2024wish
The Pinang Peranakan Mansion in Penang is like a secret treasure for tourists. It lets you see the customs and traditions of the Peranakan, also known as Baba & Nyonya. The mansion is right in the center of Georgetown and shows off how the Nyonya clan lived in luxury a century ago.
.
Some of the settings in this mansion might look familiar to us Singaporeans because they filmed parts of the Channel 8 drama "The Little Nyonya" inside some of its rooms. It's quite enchanting, especially for fans of the show.
