Easy hike on beautiful Lamma Island!
Lamma Island felt like a different place entirely! It was the perfect contrast to the chaos of Hong Kong 🏙️
🏝️
🗓️Itinerary Scheduling:
We were staying in Aberdeen so took the ferry from there to the fishing village of Sok Kwu Wan. It took about 40 mins and cost around HKD 12. Try to time it to have lunch at one of the many seafood 🦞 restaurants by the pier!
After eating, we took the well-signposted 5km Lamma Island Family Walk trail to Yung Shue Wan. It took about an hour with plenty of stopping, and the path took us past the Kamikaze Cave as well as some small island villages. At times, the views were outstanding!
We were tempted to stop for a while on the beach as we passed it, but continued on to Yung Shue Wan. Once there, we stopped for iced tea for a rest, explored the small town and got a passenger ferry back to Aberdeen from there (about HKD 24)⛴️
💞Reasons to Recommend: The island is tranquil and laid back, it seems far removed from the city! The Lamma Island Family Walk is super easy and accessible, with clear paths and no significant inclines (and there is an alternative circular trail from Sok Kwu Wan that you can take for better views!).

Lamma is Fabulous!
Attraction name: Lamma Island
Location: Hong Kong, China
Lamma island is one of the most secluded places in Hong Kong. Take a short ferry from Central or Aberdeen to one of the ports in Lamma. You can enjoy many of the famous walkable hikes on the island where you will be treated to scenic views and fresh air.
For lunch, visit one of the towns nearby the ferry ports for delicious seafood. In order to get away from the busyness of Hong Kong island, I recommend a day trip to Lamma.

Located at Yong Shue Wan Main Street, Lamma Island, Hong Kong, a few minutes walk from the ferry.
It is beautifully western decorated with red brick walls and hanging old time photos of Hong Kong. The back of restaurant facing to the harbour where dining tables are with a great view afar of the ferry pier.
It was nice and relax during weekdays with nice music on. Offering set lunch menu, huge portion of Chicken with veggies and potato’s came with a soup and a drink. The price is reasonable.
Reachable from Hong Kong by ferry from Central Pier no. 4.

SPENDING A DAY ON YUNG SHUE WAN, LAMMA ISLAND, HONG KONG
HUNG SHING YE BEACH, LAMMA ISLAND
The beaches on Yung Shue Wan are a bit of a walk from the main street (about 20-30 minutes depending on walking speed and distractions) and through the wilderness of Lamma.
Lamma Island is served by two main ferry terminals, Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan. Ferries between Central and Yung Shue Wan run every 20-30 minutes in the morning and evening, and every 45-60 minutes during the daytime. The journey takes about 30 minutes.

And island with a lot of character
In a city of Islands offering everything from sunset hiking, golden beaches and abandoned villages, it can be difficult to know which of Hong Kong’s many many islands to visit next. With an expansive and convenient ferry service, going to and from these Islands is quick, easy and relatively cheap, then choosing where to go next is a great dilemma to have.
Lamma Island, Hong Kong is a quiet and pleasant place with a laid-back feel. People come to the island to enjoy walking on trails. If you go on a Sunday or holiday, you are likely to see many locals. On Lamma Island, there is a walking trail at one end that leads to the traditional fishing village of Sok Kwu Wan, and the other end is the laid back and multicultural village of Yung Shue Wan, where visitors can find international cuisine and handicrafts. Conveniently located just a 40-minute ferry ride from the city, Lamma Island has the charms of Western and Chinese island life, where West meet East. It is a must for everybody’s itinerary. The trail which is known as the “Lamma Island Family Walk” is a great way to see the Island and is one of Hong Kong’s most loved trails.
It is a gentle hike and relatively easy as it is paved and well-marked, with even refreshment stops and many resting points along the way.
There are some ups and downs and some stairs and steep hikes if you wander out to the many outlook posts, just take your time
You will walk along the water, through the forests and lots of vegetation, little temples, pavillions, with many fantastic views… be sure to stop frequently and take it all in… (and try to ignore the ugly power plant that is definitely an eye sore)
You can start the day with the ferry to Yung Shue Wan, explore the town a bit before embarking on the light hike to Sok Kwu Wan passing through fantastic vistas of beaches, hills, local temples… stopping for a dip in the ocean or a break at the breezy pavilions along the way… then enjoy a nice seafood lunch or dinner before catching the ferry back to town. Or you could do it in reverse as well.
If time is short, skip the hike and stick to either side. The ferry rides are worth it just for the views, both of the majestic Hong Kong Island skyline, and the lush greenery of the mountains as you approach Lamma. And once there, enjoy a nice seafood dinner, and perhaps a breathtaking sunset…
The beach of course is a must see here and it is almost unmissable since it is located between the two ferry piers and easily reached from either. Not the biggest beach but very clean and with soft sand and lapping ocean waves its perfect for a dip or a sunbath. It is rarely too busy here and gives you a chance to take a break from hectic life and just relax. The beach has changing rooms and toilets which are functional and adequate to use.
The Lamma island pig is probably the most photographed thing on the whole island. Muraled onto a random building this splash of colour really jumps out at you as

A beautiful place without dusty and smoke
Take a ferry from Central pier 5. This is one of the beautiful island you have to travel. About 20 minutes for the ferry and 10 minutes walk down to the Main Street of Ying Shui Wan, you will found different kinds of restaurants like Spain,Italian…
If you like to take a swim you can go to the beach name .. I forgot 😂

Best restaurant with sunset

Fun and food
Lamma is an island around 45-60mins away by ferry from Central. There are two main ferry piers on the island; one on the northern shore and the other towards the middle of the island. The northern one, Yung Shue Wan, is more popular and busy. Nonetheless, it is quite common to go into one and leave from the other.
As such, Lamma is a lovely island to go for a hike. There are various hiking trails and they bring you to different points of the island. They aren't difficult by any standards and you'll have restaurants and stores in the nearby villages.
More importantly, Lamma island is great for seafood. It is extreme fresh and tasty and there'll be something for everyone. On the Sok Kwu Wan Pier, seafood restaurants line the street so you'll never be short of choice. Have a meal here in the outside overlooking the sea in a very comfortable setting.
Overall Lamma is a great hop away from the busyness of HK. You'll be able to get some good hiking done while also eating great and fresh seafood. Definitely recommend if you want some quiet and great food! #weekendfun #island #Lamma #HK

Half-day tour of Lamma Island
Lamma Island is one of the top destinations for island hopping in Hong Kong. Visitors usually take a ferry from Yung Shue Wan to Sok Kwu Wan, or vice versa. Today, it was too hot, so we walked from Yung Shue Wan Pier to Hung Shing Yeh Beach and then returned. We'll go hiking on the island again when the weather is cooler.
Yung Shue Wan Main Street is very lively, with a typical island resort style. We had dim sum for lunch at the "Sampan Seafood Restaurant" (Figure 8).
Yung Shue Wan Tin Hau Temple (Figure 6) is said to be a hundred years old, but the two stone lions at the entrance are obviously later additions, and their style does not match.
The网红 "Kin Hing Ah Po Tofu Flower" (Figure 10) is located at the entrance to Tai Wan To Beach. It is said that Ah Po makes it by hand every morning. It has a strong bean flavor, but the price has gone up a bit (HK$16/bowl).
Probably because it was morning, Hung Shing Yeh Beach was very quiet and beautiful. Sitting under the awning and having a glass of iced drink was very comfortable.
It takes about 25 minutes to take a ferry from Central Pier 4 to Yung Shue Wan Pier. Along the way, you can enjoy the views of both sides of Victoria Harbour, the south coast of Hong Kong Island (Figures 19, 20), and the islands. Figure 17 is the Large and Small Tsing Yi Island.

If you have time, I really suggest visiting Lamma Island, the hometown of Chow Yun-fat
It's highly recommended to arrange a trip to Lamma Island, where you can choose to leisurely stroll and eat.
Located less than half an hour by ferry from the city, the island still retains the scale of a small fishing village. The islanders once voted on whether to allow cars, and most people chose to live with more primitive means of transportation, thus protecting the island's ecological environment.
Transportation🚢: Take the MTR to Central and exit at A, cross the footbridge to Pier No. 4, which goes to Yung Shue Wan Pier or Sok Kwu Wan Pier.
Ferry tickets🎫: The cost for adults from Monday to Saturday is 27.5, and on Sundays and public holidays, it is 38.7. Payment can be made using WeChat or Alipay.
☘️Attractions:
💫Fishermen's Cultural Village
Built in the middle of the sea, it's very suitable for family trips. The cultural village displays some fishing and aquaculture scenes. You can experience fishing without a hook🎣, and feed stingrays, but you need to buy specified fish food.
💫Sok Kwu Wan
Directly accessible from Central Pier, Sok Kwu Wan is not overly developed and retains the feel of a primitive village. Starting from Lin Shan Road, the road is rich in resources, with various fruits and the unique tofu dessert of Lamma Island. Along the way, you will see signs for Lo So Shing Beach, where you can swim in the sea. In the evening, on the way back, we encountered villagers cutting longan from the trees and they even gave us some. I love these simple and unpretentious places; everything is so beautiful.
💫Rainbow Seafood Restaurant
Arriving at Sok Kwu Wan Main Street, of course, you must visit the highly popular Rainbow Seafood Restaurant, which has been rated by Michelin as one of the top 450 restaurants in Asia.
💫Sok Kwu Wan First Street Specialties
There are quite a few snack shops and specialty stores here. After a day of exploring, you must take some souvenirs back for family and friends. Plan your return ferry🚢 schedule in advance to return with a full load!
📔Summary
1️⃣Check the weather before you set off
2️⃣It's advisable to bring mosquito repellent
3️⃣Wear a pair of comfortable shoes
3️⃣Many small shops on the island only accept 💰cash, so it's recommended to prepare some before departure
