The British Consulate of Dagou is located on Xizi Bay, where the sea and sky are the same color. The word Dagou comes from the Chinese pronunciation of "Takow" (Pingpu language, meaning bamboo forest), which is rich in bamboo in Kaohsiung. Later, because the Japanese thought the place name "Dagou" was indecent, they changed it to "Kaohsiung". The Japanese word "Kaohsiung" is pronounced "taka-o", which is similar to the sound of "Dagou". The British Consulate in Dagou is located on the Xizi Bay where the sea and sky are the same color. The entire British Consulate in Dagou is divided into two parts, the official residence on the mountain and the consulate at the foot of the mountain. The official residence on the hill is a post-Renaissance Baroque building. The red brick exterior, bamboo downpipes, stone carvings and round arches all reflect the differences of the British Consulate in Dagou. The first floor of the official residence includes a cultural and creative shop, a viewing platform and a courtyard. Standing on the viewing platform, you can have a clear view of the setting sun. There is an exhibition room on the second floor, which uses models, old maps and other interlaced lines to let visitors experience the rich stories of Kaohsiung's opening of the port for more than 100 years. Visit the official residence of the consulate from afternoon to evening to enjoy the sunset photos of the West.
