This place is close to Magome. Originally I planned to take bus to Tsumago, but the bus did not come frequently. I needed to wait for 2 hours for a bus, so finally I hiked from Magome and walked for around 3 hours to this place. The scenery along the way is beautiful, especially the waterfalls. Tsumago also has ancient vibe, has some museums and exhibition halls. Even the post office has historical displays.

Tsumago-juku ia a very small town located in the Nagiso region, which preserve a lot of architecture from the edo period of Japan.

If you're taking the bus from Magome-juku, remember to check the bus schedule. There's only one bus every two hours or so, and it stops running early. Basically, there's no one around, and even the shops are closed. However, the night view is beautiful with lots of stars and hardly any lights. You can take a stroll outside. The place to stay is a guesthouse where you sleep on tatami mats, and both dinner and breakfast are included. It's nice but a bit pricey. The next morning, you can walk to the bus area below to catch the bus back to the station. Remember to bring enough cash as everything is cash-only, including the bus.

#DomesticTravelRecord Tsumago-juku, a post town on the Nakasendo road, is a historic district that was the first in Japan to be designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. The houses that retain the architectural features of Edo-period inns are lined up, and the nostalgic atmosphere is attractive. In addition to enjoying the townscape, there are also restaurants and souvenir shops. There are also many souvenir shops selling chestnut kinton, a specialty of neighboring Nakatsugawa City. I went on the 1/2nd of the New Year, so few stores were open and there were few tourists. If you want to enjoy taking photos, I recommend aiming for this time of year. Along this scenic, historic trail, the Tateba Tea House is a perfect spot to take a break. The tea house has such a warm, traditional charm, and the man running it was incredibly kind and welcoming. Anyone walking this trail will love the refreshing tea and the peaceful atmosphere. The beautiful, more than 200-year-old house, with its traditional backdrop inside and out, really added to the experience. The gentleman in traditional clothing serving tea made everyone feel right at home. #japantrip It was a great weather. This village was very serene after getting out from big cities. Every certain point, they had water wheels and small water fountain that makes the village more livable and tells the significance of water as a resources back in the old days. Every buildings were preserved in very well quality and makes the town vibrant and historic. All the visitors there were very polite and respectful and that makes this area more lovable for me.

The road from Magome to Tsumago is somewhat similar to the ancient roads in Zhejiang. The 8km journey ended with a casual walk of 2 hours. We walked a long way and looked at the scenery. We arrived at Tsumago and had a bowl of the village's unique soba noodles. It tasted so good. Tsumago-juku is the 42nd stop of Nakasendo (Nakasendo No. 69), located on the east bank of the Ran River in Minami-Kiso Town, Kiso-gun, Nagano Prefecture.
