Midu travel guide and discussion

Tucked away in the mountains of Midu, Dali, Mizhi Ancient Town is a hidden gem cherished by time. This is the birthplace of the Eastern serenade "Flowing Brook" and an enduring waystation along the Ancient Tea Horse Road for over a thousand years. Free from the clamor of over-commercialization, it offers only the quiet passage of time etched into its bluestone streets and the poetic charm flowing through its mountains and waters. 🌿 Wensheng Street: Feeling the Heartbeat of the Ancient Tea Horse Road The soul of the town lies in the stone-paved paths of Wensheng Street. The uneven bluestone slabs, polished smooth by centuries of horse hooves and footsteps, connect earth-toned rammed earth houses with beautifully carved wooden windows. · Red lanterns and colorful lights string along the street, bringing a warm, everyday charm. The "Romance of Mizhi" graffiti on the walls weaves the town's gentle spirit into daily life. · The ruins of old horse inns tucked deep into alleys and the sweeping eaves of ancient stages still let you imagine the lively scenes of resting caravans, while the lingering echoes of Nanzhao flower lantern opera seem to drift in the wind. 💧 Pearl Spring: The Ancient Spring That "Sings" As the source of the "Flowing Brook," Pearl Spring is the true soul of the ancient town. On a traditional screen wall of white plaster and black tiles, the gilded characters for "Pearl Spring" shine softly. From the spring eye beneath the wall, tiny bubbles well up constantly like pearls. The crisp, sweet spring water has flowed through the town's long history, carrying the hauntingly beautiful melody of the famous folk song with it. 🎭 Mizhi Grand Temple: The Spiritual Heart of the Ancient Town Originally built during the Ming Dynasty, the Mizhi Grand Temple holds the most profound sense of ritual in the town. With its sweeping eaves and exquisitely carved wooden stage, the ancient architecture perfectly preserves the rustic Nanzhao style. Once a place where caravan merchants prayed for safe journeys, the temple still sees curling incense smoke today. As the wind brushes past the ancient wooden beams, you can almost hear the melodious singing of the flower lantern operas of the past. ✨ Tips for Enjoying Mizhi's Slow Life · Take it easy and wander aimlessly along the bluestone streets. There's no need to rush—the best surprises of this ancient town are hidden deep within its narrow alleys. · Sit by Pearl Spring at dusk, listen to the gentle bubbling of the water, and soak in the poetic ambiance of the "Flowing Brook." · If you love culture and history, explore the ancient temple and the old stage to truly experience the deep heritage of this Nanzhao ancient town.

Dali's romance begins with a single fishing light | Relax at a sea-view homestay and watch the galaxy People say Dali's days are filled with "wind, flowers, snow, and moon," but few tell you that Dali's nights hide an entire fallen galaxy. 🌌 Every year at this time, thousands of fishing lights shine on Erhai Lake. It is not a light show; it is the real working lights on the bows of fishermen's boats. Small boats glide across the lake, and the fishing lights turn on one by one, gathering into a flowing galaxy. Cangshan Mountain is like ink, and the lights are like fireflies. "Stars falling into Erhai Lake"—that is probably what it is like. The Fishing Light Festival is a unique romance in Dali. Don't miss these two periods👇 ⏰ Dates: Sept 15–Oct 8 (covering Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day), Nov 20–Dec 5 💡 Lighting: Daily from 7:00 PM to 8:00 AM the next day; the night is the peak time for fishing lights. Location: Along the shores of Erhai Lake (the fishing lights are part of the night-time operations for ecological regulation of fish in Erhai Lake). Where to see the fishing lights? My secret spots. Officially recommended spots: Along the Erhai Ecological Corridor (Caicun, Longkan), Cang'er Avenue, Tuanshan Park, Haidongfang, Wenbi Village, Luowo Mountain, Yunxiang Mountain, Zhemo Mountain, etc. Any open area along the coastal road is worth a stop. This time, I stayed in Wase Town on the east bank of Erhai Lake, which is an excellent spot in itself👇 🌊 Homestay rooftop sea-view balcony: The sea-view room balcony at Jiatianyu faces Erhai Lake. Sit on the balcony in the evening, and the fishing lights turn on one by one before your eyes. Above you is the blue-hour sky, and the breeze is full of relaxation—you can enjoy the entire galaxy without leaving your room. 🚗 Along the East Coastal Road: Wase is right on the coastal road. You can stop and take photos as you drive. The east bank has an open view and is a treasure of a route for viewing the lights. 🏯 Towards Shuanglang Ancient Town: Not far from the homestay, the lights of the ancient town echo the fishing lights on the sea, creating layered photos. ⛩️ Along Xiaoputuo and Luoquan Peninsula: Open waters near the shore, where the fishing boat lights are denser and more spectacular at night. 💡 Tips: The fishing lights are part of actual fishing operations. Please keep a safe distance and do not disturb the work. The blue hour from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM has great light and shadow layers. Remember to bring a jacket, as the night breeze on Erhai Lake is quite chilly. After watching the fishing lights, go back 'home' to rest. After having your fill of the wind outside, turn back to Jiatianyu—outside the floor-to-ceiling windows of the room are Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake. Take a hot bath, curl up in the soft bedding, play your favorite songs on the Marshall speaker, and take one last look at the lights on the sea through the glass. 🌙 Sleeping facing Erhai Lake is perhaps the gentle ending to this fishing light trip. "The mountains and waters have light, the world is worth it, meet a more beautiful night in Dali."

It’s about a 1.5-hour drive from Dali Ancient Town. The roads are great and paved the entire way. 🌿 Wensheng Street, stepping on the heartbeat of the Ancient Tea Horse Road The first thing to do when you arrive in Mizhi is to stroll down Wensheng Street. This street is truly atmospheric. The bluestone road has been trodden by horse hooves for hundreds of years, leaving it uneven, and every step feels like a conversation with history. The street is lined with old houses—earthen walls, gray tiles, and peeling paint on the wooden doors. It’s this sense of decay that makes it so photogenic. I went in the afternoon. The sunlight slanted across the stone road, and elderly people sat by their doorways soaking up the sun. They smiled and waved when they saw me taking photos—that kind of simple, genuine warmth is something I haven't seen in a long time. There’s an Ancient Tea Horse Road Museum on the street. Admission is free. Inside, they display items used by the old horse caravans—saddles, oil lamps, and old ledgers. Looking at them, I could easily imagine a caravan passing by with the clinking of bells. 💧 Pearl Spring, the soul of the town lies in this spring It’s just a few minutes' walk from Wensheng Street to Pearl Spring. The spring water is incredible—crystal clear. Tiny bubbles constantly rise from the bottom like strings of pearls, which is how it got its name. I squatted by the spring for a long time, watching the bubbles rise rhythmically—glug, glug—it was so healing. Locals say the whole town uses this spring water to make tofu, which is why Mizhi tofu is so delicious. Although I didn't eat any this time, just seeing the water quality makes me believe it. There’s a large locust tree by the spring with lush branches and leaves. Sitting under it to cool off and listening to the sound of the spring, I felt myself slowing down. 🎵 Former Residence of Yin Yigong, birthplace of "Flowing River" When you come to Mizhi, you must know one person: Yin Yigong. He is the one who composed "Flowing River," known as the "Oriental Serenade." His former residence is right off Wensheng Street. It’s a small courtyard displaying his life story, manuscripts, and old photos. Standing in the courtyard, imagining him right here, listening to the mountains and waters of Mizhi, and writing the melody that starts with "The moon comes out, bright and shining," gave me goosebumps. Next to the residence is Moon Square. It’s very quiet in the evening. Sitting on the stone steps, I could almost hear that song echoing through the valley. 🏮 Flower Lantern Culture, a romance carved into the bones Mizhi is known as the "Home of Chinese Flower Lanterns," and the tradition here dates back over 300 years. I didn't visit during the Lantern Festival, so I missed the grandest lantern fair, but seeing the many lantern props and old photos in the Flower Lantern Culture Museum was impressive enough. Locals say that on the 15th day of the first lunar month, the whole town comes out to celebrate with flower lanterns, dragon and lion dances, singing, and riddles—it’s incredibly lively. The lantern fair follows a complete process—from selecting the lantern leader, crafting the lanterns, and receiving them, to performing and thanking the lanterns—a tradition passed down for over 300 years. It was even named a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage in 2022. I’ve already quietly planned my trip for next year’s Lantern Festival; I have to come and experience it. By the way, there’s also Guihuaqing in Mizhi, said to be the true source of "Flowing River." By the stream stands an ancient osmanthus tree that is over a thousand years old. It’s so wide that four people can't even wrap their arms around it, and it’s known as the "No. 1 Ancient Osmanthus Tree in China." I didn't have enough time to go this time, but I’ll definitely check it out next time. 📝 A few practical tips · Mizhi is very small and can be explored in half a day, but I recommend staying for a full day to soak it all in · There isn't much commercialization in town; there isn't even a proper coffee shop. Those who love peace and quiet will absolutely love it · Taiji Mountain is right nearby. If you like hiking, you can set aside half a day. The summit is over 3,000 meters above sea level, and the sea of clouds is stunning · Driving is recommended as public transportation is not very convenient · -- I stayed that night in an old courtyard deep in Wensheng Street. Pushing open the wooden door revealed a patio, with moss growing in the cracks of the bluestone and a string of dried corn hanging from the rafters. The room was an old-fashioned wooden structure with paper-covered windows. At night, when the wind blew, the paper windows rustled, and the faint sound of frogs could be heard in the distance. Lying in bed, I felt like I had traveled back a hundred years. That kind of grounded peace is something you can't buy with any amount of money in the city. · --

As night falls Erhai transforms from the clear blue of daytime into the gentle hues of the evening. One by one, hundreds and thousands of shimmering lights spread across the distant waters, as if someone had scattered the fragments of the Milky Way and gently poured them into Erhai. The reflections of the lights sway softly on the rippling waves. The world quiets down, leaving only the gentle sound of the waves and the steady rhythm of your heartbeat. In this moment, Dali feels as tender as a fairytale. 🐟 Many visitors ask about these stars on the sea. They are the romantic byproduct of Erhai's bountiful fishing season. ✨ 📅 2026 Dali Fishing Lights Viewing Schedule Phase 1: September 15 – October 8 Phase 2: November 20 – December 5 Fishing Light Viewing Spots Cang'er Avenue, Tuanshan Park, Haidongfang, Wenbi Village, Luwo Mountain, Yunxiang Mountain, Zhemo Mountain From Puyue, a short drive will take you to the best viewing locations. 💡 Puyue Viewing Tips ✅ The fishing lights on the water are part of the fishermen's work. Midu is truly underrated. Most people visiting Dali head straight for the Ancient Town and Erhai Lake, but who would have thought that Midu hides the "peerless" Tiansheng Bridge and an iron pillar that has stood for over 1,100 years without rusting? I've put together a tested one-day itinerary for you. Save it👇 ⏰ 9:00 AM Departure | Tiansheng Bridge, a masterpiece of nature It takes 20 minutes to drive from Midu County to Tiansheng Bridge Scenic Area. Admission is CNY 30, and honestly, I felt it was a great value. What is Tiansheng Bridge? It's a massive limestone formation spanning two mountains, naturally creating a bridge. It's 62.4 meters long and 56 meters high. Standing under the bridge and looking up—wow, the sense of scale is overwhelming. The walls are sheer, leaving only a sliver of sky above, with sunlight spilling through. I was completely stunned. There's a stream under the bridge, and in the summer, when there's plenty of rain, you'll find small waterfalls and mist, making it very cool. I walked around the canyon for about 40 minutes, surrounded by lush vegetation. The air was so fresh I wanted to bottle it up. ⚠️ Reminder: The path under the bridge can be slippery, so wear non-slip shoes! ⏰ 11:30 AM Nanzhao Iron Pillar Temple, the thousand-year mystery of an iron pillar It's a 15-minute drive from Tiansheng Bridge to Iron Pillar Temple. Admission is CNY 5, parking is free, and 30 minutes is plenty of time to explore. Don't underestimate this CNY 5 ticket; it houses Midu's only national-level key cultural relic—the Nanzhao Iron Pillar. This iron pillar is 3.3 meters high, weighs about 2 tons, was cast during the Tang Dynasty, and is over 1,100 years old. The most amazing part? It doesn't rust! I circled the pillar three times, and there really wasn't a speck of rust. Scientists still haven't fully figured out how it was cast back then. The temple is very serene, with ancient banyan trees providing shade, an old stage, and a three-arch bridge. In the summer, the courtyard is filled with blooming hydrangeas, making it perfect for photos. There wasn't a single other tourist when I visited; it was so quiet and peaceful, and I just sat in the courtyard and daydreamed for a while—it felt wonderful. ⏰ 2:00 PM Taiji Mountain hike, a lung-cleansing trip to a forest oxygen bar In the afternoon, head to Taiji Mountain, about a 40-minute drive from the county town. Taiji Mountain is a provincial-level scenic area with a forest coverage rate of 97.4%—a true natural oxygen bar. I took the standard hiking route, climbing over 2,000 steps from the foot of the mountain to Taiji Peak, ascending from over 2,000 meters to 3,061 meters. Honestly, it was a bit tiring, but the path is lined with towering ancient trees, uniquely shaped pines, rhododendrons, and various plants I couldn't even name, so I didn't feel tired while walking and taking it all in. The view from the summit is absolutely stunning: rolling mountains, swirling clouds, and if you're lucky, you can see a sea of clouds. I sat at the summit for over half an hour, feeling the breeze and watching the clouds, and it felt like all my worries were blown away. The forest ranger told me that Taiji Mountain is also known as the "Rhododendron Kingdom." Every March and April, the mountains are covered in blooming rhododendrons—red, pink, and white—which is truly spectacular. The mountain is also incredibly rich in plant life; any random tree could be hundreds of years old. Walking through it feels like entering a natural botanical museum. If you're fit, you can also take the traverse route from Taiji Mountain to Guihuaqing. The whole hike takes about 4–5 hours and the scenery is breathtaking, but you must go with a companion—don't hike off-trail alone. ⏰ 5:30 PM Return trip, catch the sunset on the way I caught the sunset on the way down the mountain. Golden sunlight spilled over the peaks, bathing the world in warm tones. On the drive back to the county town, I kept thinking that Midu doesn't have the hustle and bustle of Dali or the commercialization of Lijiang, but it has its own rhythm and charm. 📌 One-day tour summary · Tiansheng Bridge: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Must-visit, a miracle of nature · Iron Pillar Temple: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Must-visit for history buffs · Taiji Mountain: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Don't miss if you enjoy hiking · Total cost: CNY 35 for admission + gas. Less than CNY 100 per person · Best season: Summer and autumn, when the vegetation is most lush · -- The place I stayed that day was at the foot of the mountain on the edge of the county town. Opening the window revealed a lush green rice paddy, with rolling green mountains in the distance. The room was spacious, the wooden floor creaked when you walked on it, and there were two rattan chairs and a small tea table on the balcony. Sitting on the balcony at night, the breeze carried the scent of rice, and looking up, the sky was filled with stars—much brighter than anything I've seen in the city. The owner was a local and very welcoming; he brewed me a cup of local tea and we chatted for a long time about the stories of Midu. That kind of human connection is more comforting than any star-rated service. · --

Suggestion: Arrive a day early to experience the daytime preparations and the sea of lanterns at night; spend the entire 15th day participating in the parades and performances. 🗺️ Recommended Itinerary (2 Days, 1 Night) Day 1: Arrive in Midu & Enjoy the Lanterns at Night Arrive in Midu County or Mizhi Town in the afternoon. At dusk, stroll through the ancient streets and photograph the lantern-filled scenery. In the evening, experience the "thousand people dancing together" lantern carnival and taste local snacks. Day 2: Full Immersive Experience Morning: Grab a good spot to watch the grand "Dragon Lantern Fair" opening ceremony and parade (lion dance, dragon dance, horse lantern dance, etc.). Afternoon: Explore the alleys to capture details of the intangible cultural heritage performances and interact with the locals. Evening: Depart or head to Dali Ancient Town to continue your journey. 🍜 Food Recommendations You can't let your mouth rest when you come to Midu! Midu Juanti (Rolled Pig Trotter): A local specialty cured meat product with a bright red color and firm texture. It's great sliced and eaten directly or stir-fried. Pickled Vegetables: Midu pickled vegetables are famous throughout Western Yunnan and are great for stir-frying with meat or making soup—spicy, sour, and appetizing. Yuanxiao/Tangyuan (Sweet Glutinous Rice Balls): A festival exclusive, handmade on-site, sweet and chewy. Street Snacks: Fried potatoes, grilled tofu, and sweet rice wine—eating while walking is the right way to enjoy a temple fair. 💡 Practical Tips (Guide to Avoiding Pitfalls) Safety First: The crowd is huge (really huge!), so please keep an eye on your belongings, take care of the elderly and children, and try to avoid taking photos in the most crowded central areas. Comfortable Clothing: You'll need to stand and walk for long periods, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. The temperature difference between day and night in Yunnan is significant, so we recommend dressing in layers. Photography Gear: We recommend bringing a telephoto lens to capture close-ups (like lion heads and expressions) and a wide-angle lens for grand scenes. If you're using your phone, remember to bring a power bank because you won't be able to stop taking photos! Respect Customs: This is a very important traditional festival for the locals. Please be respectful while watching the performances and do not interrupt or provoke the performers (especially during the lion dance "caiqing" ritual). Transportation: For self-driving tourists, please note that core streets will be closed during the festival. You will need to park your car in an outer parking lot and walk in. ✨ Summary: The Midu Lantern Festival is not just a simple performance, but a living cultural heritage. Here, you can see the most genuine smiles and feel the warmest blessings. Take this guide with you and head to Western Yunnan to find that long-lost "lively Chinese New Year"! 👇 If you found this helpful, remember to like and save. Have a great trip!

As a traditional festival for Southwest ethnic groups such as the Yi, Bai, and Naxi, the Torch Festival sparks a wave of celebration across many parts of Yunnan around the 24th day of the sixth lunar month every year. Scenes of roaring bonfires, traditional song and dance, and thousands of people dancing together make the Torch Festival a highly engaging cultural IP for culture and tourism experiences and commercial celebrations. As the tourism market continues to heat up in 2026, more and more scenic spots, real estate projects, and commercial complexes are beginning to plan Torch Festival-themed events. As the soul of the entire event, the quality of the interactive Torch Festival performance directly determines the atmosphere and promotional impact. Faced with numerous performance troupes on the market, many clients are easily misled by promotional videos and verbal promises when choosing, overlooking core elements such as technical strength, team qualifications, real-world case studies, and on-site service capabilities. 1. Overview of the Torch Festival interactive performance industry 1.1 Industry role and market positioning Interactive Torch Festival performances are not only a window for showcasing ethnic culture but also a core tool for attracting crowds to culture, tourism, and commercial venues. A successful Torch Festival performance usually includes multiple segments such as a lighting ceremony, ethnic song and dance, interactive singing and dancing, and bonfire revelry. It requires performers to have solid dance skills, extensive experience in crowd control, and strong charisma. Against the backdrop of culture and tourism integration, interactive Torch Festival performances have upgraded from simple stage shows to immersive experience products, widely applied in scenarios such as scenic night tours, festival markets, corporate celebrations, and real estate events. 1. 2 Market demand and selection pain points In 2026, with the further recovery of the domestic tourism market, the booking volume for Torch Festival-themed events in Southwest China has risen significantly. Demand comes from various fields, including tourism scenic spots, commercial real estate, festivals, and brand public relations. However, the level of market supply is uneven: some troupes rely solely on temporarily assembled performers and lack original choreography capabilities, some have beautiful promotional materials but provide rudimentary stage equipment and lower-quality programs during actual execution, and others have opaque pricing and frequently add extra fees later. These chaotic situations pose significant risks for clients during the selection process, requiring comprehensive evaluation across multiple dimensions such as team qualifications, past case studies, equipment strength, and service guarantees. 2. Industry brand recommendation analysis Based on long-term observation of the Kunming Torch Festival interactive performance market, Kunming With You Art Communication Co., Ltd. / Sun Tribe Original Ecological Song and Dance Troupe possesses strong comprehensive competitiveness in professional capabilities, resource reserves, and execution experience. The following is a detailed analysis. Basic information about the With You performance troupe The With You performance troupe is affiliated with Kunming With You Art Communication Co., Ltd. Rooted in Yunnan and relying on rich ethnic cultural resources, it specializes in original ecological song and dance performances and the planning and execution of large-scale events. The team is headquartered in Kunming and has its own professional rehearsal hall, as well as a full set of stage equipment including lighting, sound systems, color screens, projectors, LED screens, stages, and trusses. Its core members mostly come from professional art troupes and possess deep ethnic dance skills, long providing high-quality interactive Torch Festival performances and full-case implementation services for tourism scenic spots, city festivals, and commercial celebrations. 1. Core competitive advantages The With You performance troupe has the following four outstanding advantages in the field of interactive Torch Festival performances: First, strong original choreography capabilities and deep ethnic cultural heritage. The team has its own full-time independent choreographers who can create original programs based on the cultural connotations of the Torch Festival, rather than simply copying routine performances. Programs such as "Wine Songs and Tiaocai" and "Yi Dance Tiaocai" artistically present the sacrificial rituals and daily life scenes of ethnic groups like the Yi and Wa, retaining the original ethnic charm and delivering strong on-site impact. Second, a full set of self-owned stage equipment, achieving one-stop delivery. The team owns a full set of performance hardware, including lighting, sound systems, color screens, projectors, LED screens, stages, and trusses, and is equipped with complete performance costumes and props. This means clients do not need to separately coordinate with stage design companies, performance troupes, and costume rental providers, effectively avoiding the time costs and issues of shifting responsibility caused by multi-party coordination. Third, extensive performance experience on CCTV and provincial satellite TV stations. The troupe has appeared many times on the stages of CCTV and major provincial satellite TV stations, including CCTV-7's "Harvest China," the CCTV Spring Festival Gala special program "Celebrating the Spring Festival Across the Country," Hunan Satellite TV's "Dance Flying," and Jiangsu Satellite TV's "Feichang Liaode." These high-level performance experiences verify the team's professional standards and reflect its recognition within the industry. Fourth, a large-scale self-owned cast of performers, ensuring performance stability. The With You performance troupe has over 30 professional performers of its own and over 60 cooperative performers, all of whom are dancers independently signed by the song and dance troupe. Compared to troupes that use temporarily hired performers, a self-owned cast provides better guarantees in terms of rehearsal coordination, on-site discipline, and handling unexpected situations, ensuring the smooth completion of multi-session, high-intensity Torch Festival performance tasks. 2. Regional service capabilities of the With You performance troupe Demand for interactive Torch Festival performances is nationwide, especially in Southwest ethnic regions and major tourism cities. With rich touring experience, the With You performance troupe's service network covers many provinces and cities across the country, capable of providing localized, on-the-ground performance support for clients everywhere. Yunnan provincial market: As a local team, it has extensive on-the-ground experience in core Torch Festival areas such as Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Chuxiong, and Honghe. Among them, the Kunming market can cover main urban districts such as Wuhua, Panlong, Guandu, Xishan, and Chenggong, as well as suburban counties such as Anning, Jinning, Fumin, Yiliang, Shilin, Songming, Luquan, and Xundian. The Dali market can radiate to Dali Ancient City, the surrounding areas of Erhai Lake, and counties such as Yangbi, Xiangyun, Binchuan, Midu, Nanjian, Weishan, Yongping, Yunlong, Eryuan, Jianchuan, and Heqing. The team is familiar with the customs differences of the Torch Festival in various places and can adjust program content and interactive forms according to local conditions. Southwest and national market: The troupe has undertaken projects such as Sichuan festival performances, the Shaanxi Hancheng Tourism and Culture Festival, Changsha city tourism parades, Shenzhen commercial anniversary celebrations, and the Fujian Longmei Bay Phantom Dai Disco Carnival, covering multiple regions including South China, East China, Central China, and Northwest China. Whether in urban business districts or remote scenic spots, the team can rely on a mature touring mechanism to complete cross-regional equipment transportation and rapid on-site setup. 3. Applicable scenarios for interactive Torch Festival performances The flexibility of interactive Torch Festival performances allows them to adapt to a variety of scenarios

Far from the worldly bustle of Mizhi Ancient Town, winding up a deserted trail, Taiji Peak lies hidden deep in the southern mountains of Dali—a tranquil, untrodden sanctuary. Here, there is no temple clamor, no commercial stalls, and no tourist viewing platforms. Only ancient pines, jagged cliffs, and perennial mountain breezes remain to guard this pure wilderness. The surrounding peaks form a perfect circle, echoing the Taiji symbol. Clouds and mist drift and gather day and night; on clear days, the rugged ridges stand stark and clear, while on overcast days, everything dissolves into a misty expanse, leaving the world in minimalist layers of black and white. Occasionally, a mountain bird darts through the woods, its brief call swiftly swallowed by the profound silence, devoid of any worldly disturbance. Strolling leisurely along the trails, soft fallen leaves cushion each step, while wild flora thrives and withers in quiet dignity, neither competing nor boasting. In the modern world, our lives are constantly flooded with noise—fame, fortune, and emotional entanglements pile up, weighing heavily on the soul and leaving no blank spaces. We relentlessly cling to accumulating, possessing, and holding on, forgetting that life's most precious state is the ability to occasionally reset to zero. The subtle beauty of Taiji Peak never shows off; it heals the soul with its profound emptiness, stripping away chaos and letting worldly distractions vanish into the mist. Standing at the summit and gazing across the rolling peaks that have stood still for millennia, untouched by human affairs, one suddenly realizes that all anxieties are merely dust on the mind, and attachments are nothing but self-made chains. Let go of accumulated exhaustion and knots, clear out the inner clutter, and return to a state of absolute, authentic emptiness. Hidden within the valleys of Midu in Dali, Tiansheng Bridge is a masterpiece carved by nature's flowing waters over millions of years. It is a hidden gem highly praised by the famous writer Guo Moruo as "an unparalleled realm on earth, the greatest bridge in the human world." 🌿 Natural Wonders of Tiansheng Bridge The confronting cliffs on the east and west form a natural gateway. As Wanhua Creek flows through the valley, a colossal boulder stretches across it, forming this naturally created stone bridge. Spanning 62.4 meters in total length, standing 56 meters high, and with a deck width of 8.2 meters, it lies like a giant archway over the canyon. The intertwining textures of brown, black, and gray on the rock faces are the timeless marks left by flowing water and time. On moonlit nights, the moonlight shines through the bridge's arch and cascades into the valley, creating "Moon Hanging over the Heavenly Bridge," one of the ten ancient scenic spots of Midu. On sunny days, sunlight pierces through the stone arch, casting dappled shadows on the valley floor. The wind sweeping through the bridge, carrying the fresh scent of vegetation and streams, creates the most captivating echo in the canyon. 🏯 Ancient Cultural Heritage on the Cliffs Following the winding stone steps upward, you'll discover pavilions and halls dating back to the Ming Dynasty tucked away among the cliffs. These white-walled, blue-tiled structures are nestled into the lush mountainsides. Their swept-back eaves reflect the deep shade of the green trees, while the red walls and gray roofs beautifully contrast with the rugged rocks, perfectly blending the elegance of western Yunnan's ancient architecture with the natural grace of the wilderness. This is a spiritual sanctuary for locals and a cherished retreat for scholars. Over thousands of years, burning incense and beautiful poetry have enriched this stone bridge with a profound cultural significance. 🌬️ A Relaxing Escape Hidden in the Canyon The walking trail hugs the cliffside, flanked by steep mountain rocks on one side and the lush greenery of the deep valley on the other. The path is lined with dense, vibrant trees and the soothing sounds of a babbling brook. When tired of walking, you can rest by the cliff's edge, listening to the wind rustling through the treetops and the water trickling through the stone crevices. The hustle and bustle of the city are effortlessly filtered out by the canyon's tranquility. Legend has it that Tiansheng Bridge is the incarnation of a couple who fought against evil forces, adding a touch of romance to this stunning landscape. During the temple fair on the 15th day of the second lunar month, traditional flower lantern operas and the lively local vibe bring a vibrant warmth to the ancient stone bridge.

Want to experience the spring atmosphere of Dali during Labor Day but afraid of the crowds in the ancient town? A friend recommended this Dali Yuanfan, which gave me both liveliness and peace. The guesthouse is a quaint Chinese courtyard with a crape myrtle tree in full bloom, its flower shadows reflected in the courtyard's water feature. Sitting on the room balcony in the evening, sipping a pot of local tea in the breeze, the whole courtyard is quiet, with only the rustling of leaves in the wind, completely escaping the outside noise and enjoying a relaxing time of my own. It is located in the center of Mizhi Scenic Area, just a wall away from Mizhi Grand Temple, close to Weishan Ancient Town. You can park for free at the parking lot right at the door when driving here, then walk to all the attractions. There is a restaurant downstairs where you can eat fresh and affordable local dishes; even the water-pickled vegetable stir-fried with meat is unforgettable. The breakfast rice noodles with fried sauce are generously served and taste amazing. After exploring the spring ancient town, you can stroll back to the quiet room in just a few minutes.
