A plate of fluffy pancakes topped with fresh berries, a few sauces to choose from, and a warm cup of tea—simple, but exactly what I wanted that morning. With the sunlight streaming through the window, I could take my time, enjoy the view, and simply relax in the comfort of my room. No crowded breakfast restaurant, no schedule to keep—just a slow morning, good food, and a little time for myself. The second stop of the Middle East cruise is Bahrain. For this country, I think I only heard about it during the Asian qualifiers for the World Cup one year. After getting off the ship, the two of us took an Uber at the port and went straight to the Al-Fateh Grand Mosque. It is located in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, built in 1987, named after Bahrain’s founder Ahmed Al-Fateh. It is the largest and most iconic mosque in Bahrain. Architectural Highlights: It features the world’s largest fiberglass dome (weighing about 60 tons and approximately 35 meters in diameter). Natural light filters through the dome along with Iranian stained glass into the main prayer hall; the floor is paved with Italian marble, Austrian crystal chandeliers hang high, and the main door is intricately carved from Indian teakwood, combining craftsmanship from multiple countries. Scale: Covering an area of 6,500 square meters, it can accommodate over 7,000 worshippers at the same time. Inside and outside, there are also Islamic daily life experiences. Visiting Tips: Non-Muslims are allowed to enter (usually closed to tourists on Fridays). Women need to borrow a black robe and cover their heads, and men must cover their shoulders and knees. Additionally, there is a staff member inside the mosque who speaks Chinese and is quite friendly.

Established in December 1988, it has witnessed the historical changes of Bahrain through the passage of time. The museum complex covers 27,800 square meters and is cleverly composed of two buildings. Its exterior is simple yet solemn, as if telling every visitor the profound history it carries. As I slowly approached the museum, the ancient door seemed like a gateway through time. Continuing ahead, the pre-industrial era household utensils exhibition area appeared before me. Various daily items were displayed, from simple pottery jars to exquisite bronze vessels, each showcasing the lifestyle of ancient Bahrainis. I could almost hear their laughter and chatter as they gathered together; smell the aroma of food cooking. These seemingly ordinary utensils contained their love for life and pursuit of beauty. The natural history specimen exhibition area was like a miniature world, displaying Bahrain’s rich natural resources and biodiversity. The lifelike animal and plant specimens made me feel as if I were immersed in Bahrain’s natural environment, experiencing the wonder and beauty of nature. That’s right, this country is Bahrain. Before coming to Bahrain, I knew nothing about it. The travel guides I found described it only as the "Backyard of the Middle East" and the "Pearl of the Persian Gulf," with little else to say. But after setting foot in Bahrain, I unexpectedly found it more interesting than I imagined. Compared to the conservatism of Saudi Arabia, just across the bridge, Bahrain is more secular and chill for travelers. ▫️ 🚗 Transportation: We crossed into Bahrain by land from Dammam. You can choose between a bus or a private car. The bus tickets are purchased and boarded at Dammam International Bus Station. There are two buses to Bahrain daily, at 8 AM and 5 PM, costing 145 SAR round trip. The trip from Dammam station to Manama bus station takes about 2 hours. 🎫 Visa: Bahrain offers visa on arrival. For land crossing, just pay 5 Bahraini Dinars at the window. 💰 Currency: The Bahraini Dinar is one of the highest-valued currencies, similar to the Omani Rial, both around 1:19 exchange rate. 🌞 Climate: Similar to Saudi Arabia, it’s very hot before October. Traveling between November and February is much more comfortable. ▫️ 1⃣️ Bahrain Gate & Old Market: The landmark of Manama. The market is full of souvenirs. There’s a café called Haji’s Café, which is said to be a must-visit in Bahrain. We had dinner there and it was good. 2⃣️ Bahrain Fort: A historical site currently under renovation, so you can’t go inside, but you can stroll around outside. 3⃣️ Al-Fateh Grand Mosque: Said to have the largest dome in the Middle East. It’s recommended to avoid visiting during local prayer times, as entry is not allowed then. 4⃣️ Bahrain National Museum: The museum has many exhibits and an art gallery. Located by the port, you can enjoy views of the harbor here. 5⃣️ Pearl Diving Museum: Bahrain prospered because of pearls. The museum itself has few exhibits, but its location by the Persian Gulf is the highlight. The boardwalk and beach outside are my personal hidden gems in Bahrain. 6⃣️ Manama Viewpoint: From here, you can see Bahrain’s landmark—the World Trade Center, which is also the world’s first building equipped with wind turbines. 7⃣️ The Avenue: A fairly large mall that’s great for shopping, with various clothing, cosmetics, and food options. 8⃣️ Corniche: The seaside promenade outside The Avenue. Walking along it offers distant views of Manama’s various landmark buildings. 9⃣️ Block 338: Here you’ll find the “I love Manama” sculpture. It’s also a well-known food district in Bahrain.

Nearby, there's a theater building, and within walking distance, there are two hotels, making it very convenient if you're staying in the area.
