Linshu travel guide and discussion

Arriving at the Caowa market, the sky was just beginning to brighten, and the main street seemed endless. A large pot was steaming, and the aroma of lamb soup drifted far along the stalls. I held my bowl, drinking while watching a craftsman nearby squatting and weaving a willow basket. Linshu isn't a famous place, but once you walk in, you know it's rich in character. Linshu is in the southeast corner of Linyi, right next to the Shu River. Cross the river to the south and you're in Jiangsu. Two days is just right; one day is too rushed. The attractions are scattered around the county, so map them out in your mind first, and your journey will go smoothly. Willow weaving was the first thing I wanted to see. Linshu holds the title of China's Willow Weaving Capital. They grow basket willow in the fields, cut it, peel it, and dry it. In the hands of artisans, it's woven into baskets, hampers, and storage boxes—there are more styles than you'd imagine. There's a Willow Weaving Culture and Art Museum on Shuhe West Street, filled with physical objects, old tools, and vintage photos; a quick tour explains how this craft has been passed down. On market days, you'll often see masters weaving on-site, their fingers nimbly twisting the willow strips until a shape forms in no time. If you want to take something home, the prices at the market are very reasonable, much better than those designer versions in malls. 🧺 If you have time, you can also swing by the Changlin Diamond Museum. Years ago, someone dug up a large diamond in a field, earning this place the nickname "Hometown of Diamonds." The museum houses the story behind it and the old artifacts. Admission is free, but it's closed on Mondays, so check the schedule before you go. Cangma Mountain deserves a special mention. It's located northeast of the county and is a range connecting Cangshan, Mashan, Caoshan, and Guanshan. It's a 4A-rated scenic area. The paths are well-maintained and easy to climb. A pair of sneakers is enough. Even someone like me, who doesn't exercise much, made it to the top by taking it slow. What really sticks with you is the ginkgo tree on Guanshan. It's said to be over a thousand years old, with branches spreading wide. In winter, when the leaves fall, the bare branches have a unique charm. There's an old temple on the mountain, Hongyun Temple, which has been around for a long time and remains active. The ruins of the Anti-Jin Fortress are also here; they might look unremarkable, but they tell a story of the resistance against the Jin dynasty. ⛰️ Don't skip the Shu River either. The ancient section of the Shu River winds and turns, with reeds lining both banks; locals love to call it the "Li River of the North." Take a sculling boat and head in; the sound of the water, the oars, and the birds all blend together—it's more relaxing than hiking. In winter, the withered yellow reeds actually make the river channel look clear and bright. Put on your life jacket when you board. It's your own responsibility, so don't find it troublesome. 🚣 Zhu Village is over in Caozhuang Town. The village preserves rows of old Ming and Qing dynasty houses, with bluestone paths, ancestral halls, and old gate towers still standing, along with a few red-themed exhibition halls. If you get tired of walking, sit on the stone steps for a while; the wind blows through the alleys, and it's so quiet you can't hear anything else. As for food, you don't need to pick expensive places. Linshu stir-fried chicken is the local signature dish—the chicken is firm, rich in sauce, and one plate can go with two bowls of rice. A bowl of lamb soup in the morning warms you to the core. Pair it with two pan-fried buns or a piece of savory sauce pancake, and you'll be full. You can also have fresh fish from the Shu River prepared braised or stewed. The snacks at the market are affordable; you can get quite full for just over ten yuan. Generous portions are the standard style here. Accommodation is simple. There are business hotels in the county, and homestays at the foot of Cangma Mountain. The homestays are close to the mountain, so if you can get up early, you might catch the sunrise. If you want to save money, stay in the county; it's just a short drive away. A few final tips before you leave. Linshu's attractions are scattered, so it's really inconvenient without a car. Driving yourself or renting a car in the county works. There's a Linshu exit on the Changshen Expressway, and you can also take an intercity bus from Linyi North Station. Ticket prices for places like Cangma Mountain and the Shu River Ancient Path vary by season, so check the prices on your phone before you head out. Cangma Mountain and Guanshan can be combined in the northeast of the county, while the Shu River is in the southwest, and Zhu Village is in another direction. Don't try to do too much in one day; leaving some extra time on the road is more comfortable than rushing to hit every spot.

It’s not Jiangnan, but it rivals it! I never expected to find such a magical place hidden in Linshu, Linyi—Guan Mountain Scenic Area. This off-the-beaten-path trip was a total jackpot. It’s uncrowded, stunning, and the experience was absolutely perfect! 🌄 About the scenery Calling this the "Little Jiangnan of Southern Shandong" is no exaggeration. Even though the main peak is only 299 meters, it’s packed with unique rock formations, springs, streams, and ancient trees, giving it a delicate, ethereal beauty. The highlight was the thousand-year-old ginkgo tree—the 2,000-year-old "Child in Arms" spectacle is breathtaking. The golden leaves against the red walls of the Taoist temple make for stunning traditional-style photos. There’s also the Immortal Cave, where legends say Zhang Liang and Xu Shu practiced, and the nearly 50-meter-long "Tao Te Ching" cliff carving, which is steeped in history. 🍜 About the food After the hike, you have to treat yourself to an authentic Guan Mountain rooster! It’s a local signature dish. They use roosters raised on the mountain for at least 11 months, prepared fresh and stir-fried over high heat with local chili peppers. The sauce is rich, the meat is firm and chewy, and it gets more flavorful with every bite. We added potatoes and pot-stickers—the pancakes soaked up all that rich chicken broth, and it was absolutely incredible! My friend said the flavor is bold and hearty, perfectly reflecting the spirit of the Yimeng people. ✨ A few tips 🎫 I recommend booking your tickets online in advance—it’s much cheaper than buying on-site, and you can even get free admission on Wednesdays. 📸 For stunning traditional-style photos, I recommend going after 4 PM. The ginkgo forest and bamboo boardwalk in the sunset backlight are incredibly atmospheric! 🥾 The mountain paths can be mossy, so remember to wear non-slip shoes. There are few supply points on the mountain, so it’s best to bring your own water. This trip to Guan Mountain was both a breath of fresh air and a treat for the taste buds. Niche destinations really are the true "poetry and distance"! 👏

1. The scenic area parking lot was full, so we weren't allowed to drive up and had to take a shuttle bus. The pickup points were scattered all over the place, and there was absolutely no staff intervention. People were cutting in line everywhere, leaving those of us who were waiting patiently to bake in the sun for over an hour. 2. We finally reached the ticket exchange point, but the queuing was completely disorganized—people just lined up wherever they wanted. There weren't enough lockers, and there were no signs, so we didn't even know where to go after exchanging our tickets. 3. There are serious safety hazards. The self-service stations for life jackets and helmets don't exist, and many of the items are broken; we had to pick up ones that others had discarded on the ground. 4. After getting our gear ready, we had to queue again for the shuttle bus up the mountain. Again, there was no staff, and it was full of people cutting in line. 5. We finally made it up the mountain, only to be dropped off directly at the ticket check. There was no staff intervention, and everyone was packed together. It was hot and stuffy, and there wasn't even a fan in the shed. People were on the verge of heatstroke, and many were demanding refunds. 6. We finally got our tickets checked and entered, and once we saw the water, we still had to wait for them to unload the rafting boats. We had to queue again. Summary: We spent basically the entire day queuing. We arrived at 1:30 PM and didn't finish rafting until 6:00 or 7:00 PM. There aren't enough staff at the scenic area. If you don't have the capacity, don't accept so many visitors. I will never come back!

Passing through Linshu, I made a special trip to learn about the local intangible cultural heritage of willow weaving. The museum is small, but if you take your time, you can feel the traditional craftsmanship woven into the willow branches. Travel experience Arrived at the museum at 10 AM. The indoor temperature is constant, so there is no impact from the outdoor sun, making it very comfortable to explore. On weekdays, there are few visitors. The exhibition halls are mostly quiet, with only occasional study groups, so there’s no need to compete for photo spots. Brief traffic note: In front of the museum is a smooth concrete plaza with convenient parking. Inside, the floors are all covered with non-slip tiles, flat and accessible. It’s easy to push a stroller or for elders with mobility issues to get around, with no steps or steep slopes. The museum is free to the public. You can visit after registering at the entrance. There is ample outdoor parking with no fee. There is no convenience store inside the exhibition halls, so it’s recommended to bring drinking water. The indoor lighting is soft and good for photos, but touching the exhibits is prohibited, so please pay attention to the signs. Highlights from on-site photos Most visitors head straight to the main hall to take photos in front of the giant willow weaving peacock and auspicious beast sculptures. There’s no need to crowd; you can stand to the side of the hall and use the lines of the exhibition walls as a frame to shoot the large willow weaving pieces, which creates a more three-dimensional effect and avoids the crowd. In the history exhibition area, most people quickly pass by the text and image panels. The old-style willow weaving dustpans and food boxes displayed inside have a strong sense of age. Close-up shots of the willow weaving texture reveal intricate details that are very appealing. In the craft demonstration area, many only watch from a distance. The window-side spot has natural light, perfect for photographing willow materials and samples of different weaving techniques. Few visitors notice this spot. In the back cultural and creative sales area, don’t just photograph the finished baskets. The staggered arrangement of willow weaving home decor items paired with natural wood display tables is simple and fresh, ideal for quiet shots. Friendly reminder: All large willow weaving artworks must not be climbed on or touched. Please visit respectfully. Practical itinerary tips Recommended easy tour route: main hall exhibition area → willow weaving history hall → craft science exhibition area → cultural and creative sales area. Take your time to appreciate the exhibits and take photos. A full visit takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. A quick walkthrough can be done in 1 hour. Walking intensity is very low. The entire route is flat and indoors, with almost no physical exertion, making it suitable for families with children and elders. Actual cost reference: admission is free. Willow weaving craft experience projects are charged separately and voluntary. The exhibition hall sells willow weaving cultural souvenirs, which you can buy as needed with no pressure to purchase. Tip: Study groups visit on weekends, so mornings are busier. Confirm opening hours on Mondays to avoid wasted trips. For quiet photo sessions, try to visit on weekday mornings. Reflection After seeing many natural scenic spots, visiting this intangible cultural heritage museum is a different experience. Simple willow branches, skillfully woven, can become everyday rural tools or large-scale art pieces. There’s no need to rush. Take your time to look closely at the exhibits and feel the power of traditional craftsmanship passed down through generations. When traveling, would you be willing to visit this kind of intangible cultural heritage museum along the way to experience traditional handicrafts up close?

Many people have shared this hidden forest gem. I took the chance to visit during some free time. The original, deep mountain valley is full of vines, perfect for visitors who enjoy a forest atmosphere and quiet hiking. Travel experience Entered the mountain from the Yunxi valley side of Cangma Mountain at 10 AM. The temperature inside the valley is noticeably cooler than the nearby road. Tall trees block the sunlight, making the walk through the forest especially refreshing. There are few visitors on weekdays. The popular vine swing spot occasionally has small groups taking photos. Deeper into the valley, it becomes very quiet. Road conditions in advance: The main trail into the mountain is a stone staircase maintained by the scenic area and is fairly smooth. The branch path to the Qingtan valley secret spot is a wild mountain trail, only a narrow path worn by hikers over the years, with a mix of gravel and dirt, and dense shrubs on both sides. After rain, the trail is muddy and slippery, with moss-covered rocks. Be sure to wear shoes with good traction. This valley is included in the Cangma Mountain scenic area ticket and has no separate fee. There is a parking lot at the foot of the mountain with a per-use parking fee. Important reminder: There are no shops or restrooms along the entire wild valley, so bring enough drinking water before entering. The dense vegetation attracts many mosquitoes, so long sleeves and insect repellent are essential. Authentic highlights Most visitors head straight to the vine swing deep in the valley to line up for photos, but there’s no need to crowd. Walk a few dozen meters along the side path next to the swing. Using the old vines and greenery as a natural frame, the distant view extends into the deep valley, creating a more layered scene and avoiding the crowds. Many people focus only on the popular photo spots and overlook the large patches of ancient Qingtan trees along the way. The trunks are intertwined with vines. In the early morning or after rain, a light mist drifts through the forest. Walking slowly along the path, the canopy forms a tunnel-like view at eye level, creating a strong atmosphere. The small shallow pond at the valley bottom has few visitors. The pond is surrounded by lush plants, making it a quiet spot to photograph reflections on the water. Few visitors notice this area. Don’t just stay at the valley bottom. At the mid-mountain fork, you can overlook the entire Qingtan valley, with layers of green covering the valley and a wide view. Important reminder: The wild valley has no protective fences. Do not climb the vines, stay away from slippery steep slopes, and never venture alone into remote areas. Practical itinerary tips Recommended easy route: enter from Yunxi valley area → descend the path behind Huiji Zen temple → Qingtan valley green wilderness secret spot → vine photo area → return by the same route. Take breaks and stop for photos along the way. The full round trip takes about 2 to 2.5 hours. If you only go to the popular vine spot and back, 1.5 hours is enough. The walk is moderate in difficulty. The downhill path is easy, but the uphill return requires effort. The wild trail is uneven and not recommended for elderly or young children with limited mobility. Cost reference: Online booking for the Cangma Mountain main ticket is more cost-effective. Parking at the foot of the mountain is charged. There are no expenses inside the valley, so you can explore without spending money. There are many farm-style restaurants at the foot of the mountain for dining after your visit. Tip: Visitor numbers increase on weekends and sunny mornings. The best time to visit is from early morning until before 4 PM. Avoid entering the valley after continuous rain, as the trail becomes muddy and slippery. Try to go with a companion. Reflection Unlike carefully developed scenic spots, the green wilderness preserves the valley’s original appearance. Old trees, vines, and the secluded valley combine to create a naturally quiet forest vibe. There’s no need to rush to the popular photo spots. Walk slowly through the forest, listen to the wind rustling the leaves, and immerse yourself in the mountain’s greenery. When hiking to find hidden forest spots, do you prefer the early morning mist or the soft afternoon light?

What a gem! I never expected to find such a charming old street in Linshu, Linyi, brimming with Republican-era charm – Yishui Old Street (also known as Linshu 1941 Block). The cobblestone streets paired with retro carved doors and windows create a photogenic, vintage atmosphere. After finishing some errands in the county seat, I stopped by for a walk. There’s no commercialized atmosphere like in paid attractions. The entire river runs through the city, with residential areas on one side and stretches of green boardwalk on the other. No need to plan or check in deliberately—just stroll along the river and let restless feelings gradually calm down. Travel experience Arrived near the middle section at Caocun Bridge at 8 AM on a weekday. The outdoor temperature was 30℃. Free public parking spaces line both sides of the street. The asphalt road is smooth and there are plenty of open spots. Pushing a stroller is easy throughout. The park paths come in several types: the main health running track is made of red and black dual-color rubber, moderately soft and firm, so walking for a long time won’t cause foot soreness. The yellow wooden boardwalk by the water is exposed to moisture year-round. Moss grows in the gaps between the planks, and it’s slippery with morning dew, so thin-soled sandals are not recommended. The forest paths are made of permeable bluestone slabs with small weeds growing in the cracks. Around the lotus pond is a gravel shallow beach path that easily gets muddy after rain. On weekdays, the crowd is sparse, mostly a few elderly people exercising and residents walking with children. The boardwalks and pavilions are never crowded. On weekend afternoons from 4 PM to 7 PM, the crowd increases. Locals gather for picnics and photos under Cangyuan Pavilion, on the white stone arch bridge, and on the large lawn. For a quiet view, head to the river’s north or south ends. Willows and dawn redwoods line both sides of the river. Most of the waterfront trail is shaded by trees, making it feel 4 to 5 degrees cooler than the road. Open lawns and the Cangyuan Pavilion platform have no shade, so the midday sun is strong. Bringing a sun hat makes it much more comfortable. Facilities are evenly distributed along the route. The middle and north sections have drinking water stations. Vending machines are placed at intervals, with bottled water priced at 5 yuan each. Wooden benches and stone pavilions are found everywhere along the way, so you can rest anytime. Public restrooms are available in multiple spots. The scenic belt is open all day with no closing time. The Cangyuan Pavilion exhibition hall is open from 8:30 AM to 5 PM. Flash photography is prohibited inside the exhibition hall. In summer, the waterside vegetation is dense and mosquitoes are numerous, so bringing insect repellent is recommended. Highlights from the walk (avoiding the main viewing platform of Cangyuan Pavilion, the center of the white stone arch bridge, and the popular photo spot on the central lawn) Avoiding crowded core areas, the river corners and forest paths have few visitors, making the water views and cultural details more enjoyable. 1. The narrow boardwalk by the water on the north side of Cangyuan Pavilion. Most people gather on the front platform under the tower for panoramic shots. The north path is low and close to the river, allowing full reflection shots of the tower with willow branches as a natural foreground. The scene isn’t crowded with people. 2. The lotus pond shallow beach on the west side of the white stone arch bridge. The bridge center is packed with photo-taking visitors. The west side waterside is full of water lilies and aquatic plants. Water birds occasionally skim the surface. You can see the texture of floating island vegetation up close. The atmosphere is quiet and gentle. 3. The corner at the end of the cultural relief corridor. Many stop in front of the reliefs in the middle section, but the quiet wall at the end depicts local old stories. The wall is shaded by trees, with soft side lighting, and almost no visitors stop to look closely. 4. The forest path under the pear blossom grove in the north section. The main running track is busy, but this path is surrounded by fruit trees with branches hanging over the trail. Morning mist drifts over the river, creating a full forest vibe. 5. The unoccupied ecological meadow corner in the south section. The central lawn is crowded with picnickers, but the large, gently sloping grassland at the south end has few people. You can see the outline of Cangma Mountain’s foothills in the distance. It’s perfect for sitting quietly and gazing into the distance. Practical itinerary pace and walking intensity The entire scenic belt is completely flat, with only a few low steps on bridges and no steep slopes or mountain paths. Walking intensity is very low. Elderly people with mobility issues and young children can rest in sections and still complete the route. The full north-south loop is about 10,000 steps. Easy, no-backtracking leisure route (ideal for walking and picnics): Park in free roadside spots → slow walk along the north pear blossom forest path → ecological meadow corner for distant mountain views → lotus pond on the west side of the white stone arch bridge → quiet visit to the relief corridor → reflection shots on the north boardwalk of Cangyuan Pavilion → rest at the central pavilion → return along the route Time reference: 1. Only walk the middle core area without extending north or south: under 1 hour 2. Complete the full north-south trail, lotus pond, and tower area with multiple pavilion breaks and picnics: about 2.5 hours 3. Stay until sunset when the tower lights up before returning: allow 3 hours Actual cost (tested solo): The entire riverside scenic belt is free to enter and park. Climbing Cangyuan Pavilion for views is free, and the exhibition hall is free to visit. Snacks and drinks along the way are optional. Local street snacks like pancakes and porridge cost about 12 yuan per person to fill you up. You can refill water directly from drinking stations with your own bottle. Solo travel costs are basically zero. There are no cultural products, photo fees, or incense sales. Spending is simple and transparent. Tips: The wooden boardwalk by the water and the lotus pond shallow beach are slippery. Avoid running or chasing. Do not step on aquatic plants or enter the water. Take all picnic trash with you to keep the river clean. Lighting along the trail is limited at night, so avoid walking alone in the remote south river area late at night. Reflections on the visit Most visitors on short trips to Linshu choose well-known spots like Zhucun, Cangma Mountain, and Jishan, rarely noticing this free riverside greenway in the city. There are no large amusement facilities here. It’s an urban ecological space built around the natural river, combining walking, light camping, and simple cultural visits. The blend of everyday life and natural greenery is just right. No need to crowd the tower or arch bridge for check-in photos. You don’t have to walk the entire riverside trail in one go. When tired, just sit on a wooden bench by the water, feel the breeze, listen to the flowing river and birdsong, and let go of daily worries. Located in the county center, it’s very convenient to get to. The relaxed itinerary can be combined with a day trip to Lingshantou Reservoir. For those who prefer slow urban leisure and free light walks to clear their minds, try to come early on a weekday. The river is sparsely visited, and you can enjoy quiet boardwalks and meadow corners alone. The walking and relaxing experience is peaceful and comfortable. For your short trips in the county, do you prefer mountain and water scenic spots in the suburbs or this kind of riverside ecological trail right at your doorstep?

Drove here from the county seat on the weekend. Unlike crowded popular spots, this entire mountain is very low in elevation and easy to climb. The ancient-style mountain gate at the base, the release pond halfway up, and the Taoist temple at the summit are connected. On the west side, you can see the Shuhe River fields in the distance. A slow stroll around is peaceful and relaxing. Travel experience Arrived at the mountain base at 9 AM on a weekday. The outdoor temperature was 30℃. There is a spacious concrete area in front of the mountain gate with free parking and plenty of spaces. The village roads are smooth, making driving in and out easy. Inside the park, the paths vary: the main imperial path from the gate to the summit is paved with large bluestone slabs, with narrow grass growing between the cracks. Walking for a long time feels a bit hard on the feet. The side paths to the pavilions are made of gravel steps, which are damp and mossy in shaded areas, so thin-soled sandals can be slippery. The temple courtyard has antique-style floor tiles that are dry and even. The back mountain path to the Shuhe River is a dirt road that gets muddy after rain. There are very few visitors on weekdays. You rarely need to wait to take photos at the mountain gate, the Fushou stone wall, or in front of the Yuanjun Hall. On the 1st and 15th of each lunar month, and on weekend mornings from 9 to 11 AM, locals come to burn incense, making the Huashan Golden Bridge and main hall area a bit livelier. For a quiet view, head to the back side of the Laozi Pavilion or Kuixing Pavilion. The mountain is shaded by locust and chestnut trees along the entire imperial path, making it about 4℃ cooler than the base. The Kuixing Pavilion platform at the summit is exposed with no shade, so the midday sun is harsh. The riverside breeze is cooler, so bringing a sun hat is more comfortable. Facilities include only a small convenience shop at the mountain gate selling bottled water for 6 yuan each. There are no supplies along the hike. The imperial path has Laozi Pavilion and Zhuanyun Pavilion on both sides where you can rest anytime. Public restrooms are located beside the mountain gate and in the temple’s side courtyard. The park is open all day. The temple is open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Flash photography is prohibited inside the halls and around the ancient steles. The forest is dense with many mosquitoes in summer, so bring insect repellent. Highlights for genuine photos (avoid the popular spots at the center of the mountain gate dragon wall, the front of the Fushou stone wall, and the main hall entrance of the Taishan palace) Avoid crowded popular spots. The corners of courtyards and side sections of the paths have fewer visitors and more interesting cultural and natural details. 1. On the east side of the Huashan Golden Bridge by the release pond, everyone crowds in the middle of the bridge to photograph the Fushou stone wall. The low stone steps on the east side are right by the water, with willow branches hanging over the surface. The soft morning light on the water creates a clean scene without many passersby in the frame. 2. Inside the temple courtyard near the ancient stele supported by a turtle, visitors gather at the main hall entrance to pray. The stele is tucked away in a side hall corner, with Qing dynasty restoration inscriptions. The walls are covered in vines, and you can clearly see the stone carvings up close. Almost no one stops to look carefully. 3. The forest path behind the Laozi Pavilion is surrounded by chestnut trees. Sunlight filters through the leaves. In the distance, you can see the Shuhe River on the west side and the soft, healing rural landscape. 4. The north viewing window on the fourth floor of Kuixing Pavilion offers a clear view of the Shuhe River alluvial fields, with patchwork villages spreading out quietly. The south window is crowded with visitors taking mountain photos. 5. At the quiet dirt road end of the back mountain chestnut grove, the front trail is noisy, but this secluded path faces the riverbank rubber dam. At sunset, the sun sets over the river, creating a calm and soothing mountain atmosphere. Practical itinerary pace and walking intensity The mountain is less than 90 meters high, with a gentle bluestone path throughout. There are only about a dozen low steps, no steep or dangerous sections, and the walking intensity is very low. Elderly people with limited mobility and young children can rest along the way and complete the loop, which is about 8,000 steps. Easy, no-backtracking leisure route (ideal for a peaceful light hike): Park free at the base parking lot → stroll slowly along the Qin and Han dynasty mountain gate dragon wall side → cool off at Zhuanyun Pavilion and Laozi Pavilion along the imperial path → view the release pond on the east side of Huashan Golden Bridge → examine the ancient stele inside the temple courtyard → enjoy the Shuhe River view from the north window of Kuixing Pavilion → feel the breeze on the back mountain chestnut grove path → return down the gentle path to exit Time reference: 1. Just visit the mountain gate and the release pond halfway up, no summit temple: under 1 hour 2. Complete the entire hiking trail, temple, Kuixing Pavilion, and back mountain chestnut grove with multiple pavilion breaks: about 2 hours is ideal 3. Stay until sunset over the river, with warm light filling the fields before heading back: allow 2.5 hours Actual cost (tested solo): The park has free admission. You can get three free incense sticks at the temple entrance with no mandatory incense purchase. Wish plaques, ornaments, and prayer accessories are optional with no sales pressure. Parking is free. Local farm pancakes and porridge near the village entrance cost about 15 yuan per person for a full meal. Bringing your own water and snacks means almost no expenses. The costs are simple and transparent. Tips: The damp gravel steps and stone steps by the pond are slippery, so don’t run or chase. Keep voices low inside the halls. Do not touch the ancient steles or statues. The back mountain dirt road has no guardrails, so avoid the deep riverbank areas. Reflections on the visit Most visitors on short trips to Linshu choose Cangma Mountain or Jishan Geopark, rarely knowing about this small cultural mountain in the west of town. There are no large amusement facilities here. The site relies on a thousand-year-old Taoist temple and the Shuhe River rural scenery. The hike is stress-free, allowing quiet appreciation of ancient steles and folk customs, as well as high views of the countryside and river. The blend of everyday life and mountain tranquility is just right. No need to crowd at the mountain gate stone wall or main hall entrance for photos. You don’t have to walk the entire imperial path in one go. When tired, sit in a wooden pavilion to enjoy the breeze, listen to cicadas and water sounds, and relieve daily fatigue. It’s just a 10-minute drive from the county seat. The relaxed itinerary can be combined with the vast chestnut grove and Lingshantou Reservoir for a full-day route. For those who prefer low-intensity hiking with cultural temples and river views, try to come early on a weekday. The entire mountain path is sparsely visited, and you can enjoy quiet pavilions and scenic corners alone for a peaceful experience. For your nearby short trips, do you prefer lively large mountain and water attractions or these small, quiet Taoist temples and hills with few people?

It’s just a ten-minute drive from the county seat. Without commercialized attractions or crowds, the entire lakeshore stretches along the back of Cangma Mountain. There are no fixed photo spots, so you can stroll freely along the shore, feel the lake breeze, and find calm. Travel experience Arrived at the dam entrance just after 7 AM on a weekday. The outdoor temperature was 29℃. There’s a free parking area on a cement patch by the village road, with plenty of space and no attendants. The paths along the shore come in two types: the top of the dam is a smooth cement road of moderate width, easy for strollers and bikes; the wild lakeshore path is a mix of dirt and gravel. The mud near the water stays damp year-round, with morning dew and muddy patches after rain, so low-cut shoes will get dirty. Weekday visitors are very few. You’ll hardly see anyone along the dam or the west shore mudflats. On weekend afternoons from 3 PM to 6 PM, more people come, mostly locals fishing or picnicking. Groups gather near the floodgate bridge and flat mudflats. For quiet photos, head deeper into the lake. The east side borders the Cangma Mountain forest, offering shade in the morning and a cool feel. The dam road has no shade, and the midday sun is strong. The lake breeze is fairly strong, so standing by the water for long feels cool. Bringing a light long-sleeve shirt is recommended. The entire reservoir area is a natural outdoor space with no convenience stores or vending machines. There are no spots selling water or snacks along the way, so bring your own. Public restrooms are only at the village entrances at both ends of the dam. There are no benches along the lakeshore, so bring a picnic mat if you want to rest on flat ground. The area is open all day with no closing time, but since it’s a drinking water source, it’s best not to stay long after dusk. Mosquitoes are especially numerous by the lake, so insect repellent is essential. Highlights for genuine photos (avoid the floodgate bridge and the popular open lake photo spot in the middle of the dam) The central dam area is not crowded. The lakeshore corners and west shore shallows have few visitors, letting you appreciate the natural mountain and water details. 1. At the north end corner of the dam, most people gather at the middle bridge to shoot the distant mountains and lake. The north end is slightly elevated, offering a full view of the narrow lake stretching to the mountain base, with no passersby in the foreground. Early morning mist on the water creates a soft atmosphere. 2. Behind the fishing platform on the west shore shallows is a popular fishing spot with steady foot traffic. The shallow water area is covered with green aquatic plants, and low shrubs grow along the lake. You can shoot the back of Cangma Mountain with fine water ripples, perfect for quiet lake details. 3. On the stone steps beside the floodgate tower, most people take photos in front of the red tower. The side stone steps near the water reflect the tower fully, with weeds as a natural foreground. Almost no one stays here. 4. The water-side path through the crabapple forest on the north side is less crowded than the main dam road. This forest path is full of fruit trees with branches hanging over the water. Morning light filters through the leaves onto the water, creating a healing forest vibe. 5. The innermost deserted lakeshore near the mountain base has almost no visitors. The water is calm and still, with layered mountain forests in the distance. It’s ideal for sitting quietly, gazing, and clearing your mind. Practical itinerary pace and walking intensity The terrain is flat with no stairs or steep slopes, only a few small country dirt hills. Walking intensity is very low, making it easy for seniors and children. Walking the full dam plus the west shore loop is about 10,000 steps. Easy, no-backtracking leisure route (ideal for picnics and short relaxing walks): Park at the village parking area → slow walk and sightseeing at the north end corner of the dam → walk along the dam top to the floodgate tower side for photos → descend the west shore gravel path to the fishing platform shallows → cool off on the water-side crabapple forest path → gaze at the mountain forest from the inner lakeshore desert → return the same way to pick up your car Time reference: 1. Just walk the main dam road for a simple breeze, without going into the west shore wild shallows: under 1 hour 2. Walk the full dam and entire west shore lakeshore, with a break for a picnic: about 2.5 hours 3. Stay until sunset when the mountain sunset fills the lake, then return: allow 3 hours Actual costs (tested solo): The reservoir area is fully open with no entrance or parking fees. Fishing is voluntary with a 10 yuan daily fee; no fishing means no cost. Local village shops sell pancakes and porridge for about 12 yuan per person, so the biggest expense is bringing your own water and snacks. There are no cultural products, incense sales, or photo promotions, so spending is very simple. A small reminder: as a city drinking water source, swimming and washing are prohibited. The lakeshore mud paths are slippery, so avoid deep water areas. Take all picnic trash with you; do not leave litter. There is no lighting at night, so staying after dark is not recommended. Reflections on the visit Many visitors to Linshu head straight to paid attractions like Cangma Mountain or Jishan, rarely knowing about this free, natural reservoir on the city outskirts. There are no man-made pavilions or amusement facilities here. The scenery is purely formed by mountains, forests, and water, with wide views and fresh air. There’s no rush to check in, and you control the pace. You don’t have to crowd the middle dam or the floodgate tower front for lake photos. You don’t need to walk the entire lakeshore path in one go. When tired, find a clean spot on the mudflats, lay down a mat, sit, feel the breeze, listen to the water lapping and birdsong, and let go of daily stress. It’s just a ten-minute drive from the county seat, and the relaxed itinerary can be combined with a day trip to Cangma Mountain. For those who prefer pristine countryside scenery and want a free, quiet place to relax and picnic, try to come early on a weekday. The entire lakeshore will be empty, and you can enjoy the small, less-visited mudflats and forest paths all to yourself. The walking and relaxing experience is especially pleasant. Do you prefer man-made parks for your short suburban escapes, or this kind of uncommercialized natural lakeshore?

Drove from the county seat on the weekend. Unlike high mountain scenic areas, there’s no exhausting climb. At the foot of the mountain is a lake water park, an ancient temple is hidden halfway up, and the summit offers wide views. You can take a gentle stroll or do light hiking, adjusting your pace freely. The overall atmosphere is quiet and comfortable. Travel experience Arrived at the main entrance at 9:30 AM on a weekday. Outdoor temperature was 31℃. The open-air concrete parking lot at the entrance charges 5 yuan for unlimited all-day parking. The lot is spacious with plenty of spots on weekdays. The access roads are smooth, making it easy to push a stroller for short distances. Inside the park, there are four types of paths: from the gate to Yingcui Lake, large non-slip tiles that stay dry on sunny days; the wooden boardwalk around the lake is always near water, with gaps between planks collecting moisture and moss, making smooth-soled sandals slippery; the main uphill trail has regular stone steps, shaded sections are damp and slippery; the back mountain trail is a natural gravel path without steps, which gets muddy after rain; inside Huiji Zen Temple, the uneven old bluestone slabs can make your feet feel stiff after walking for a long time. On weekdays, visitors are spread out. There’s basically no queue at the ticket gate or in front of the temple halls. Saturdays from 10 AM to 3 PM are peak hours, with families gathering at the Yingcui Lake suspension bridge, the summit sea-view platform, and the Happy Kingdom amusement area. If you want quiet photos, a short wait is needed. The mountain is densely forested. The entire trails in Yunxi Valley and Qingtan Valley are shaded, making the temperature 4 to 5 degrees cooler than at the foot. The summit has no tall trees blocking the wind, so the breeze is constant. Staying there for a long time can make your arms feel chilly. It’s recommended to bring a light jacket. Convenience stores are only at the main entrance visitor center and the temple halfway up. Bottled water costs 7 yuan each, with no supply points on the hike. Rest pavilions and wooden benches are scattered along the way, so you can sit and rest anytime. Restrooms are located at the gate, beside Yingcui Lake, near the temple courtyard, and at the summit. The park is open from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with ticket checks ending at 4 PM. Flash photography is prohibited inside the temple halls and in the strange rock areas. In summer, the valleys are lush with plants and have many mosquitoes, so bring insect repellent. Highlights from the visit (avoiding the center of Yingcui Lake suspension bridge, the main gate of Huiji Zen Temple, and the summit sea-view stone monument popular photo spots) Avoid crowded spots. The corners of the valleys and side sections of the trails have few visitors, making the natural and cultural details more enjoyable. 1. On the shallow shore on the west side of Yingcui Lake, most people crowd in the middle of the suspension bridge to capture the full lake panorama. The low stone steps on the west side are just above the water, with willow branches hanging over the surface. Morning soft light falls on the lake, creating a clean scene without many people in the frame, allowing a full reflection of the water. 2. The small courtyard with stone inscriptions on the west side of Huiji Zen Temple. The main hall’s front gate has many visitors praying, but the back courtyard has old stone tablets covered with vines. Up close, you can clearly see the temple restoration inscriptions. Almost no visitors stop to look closely here. 3. At the creek bend in the middle of Qingtan Valley, the main trail is busy with people, but the bend is surrounded by a cluster of Qingtan trees. The creek flows slowly over bluestone, and the rock walls are covered with natural moss, creating a soft and peaceful forest atmosphere. 4. On the north side of the summit sea-view platform, a small gravel path is less crowded. Most people gather around the central stone monument. The north path is slightly higher, offering a level view of the Linshu suburban countryside. The distant low hills layer upon layer, with no people in the frame. 5. The forest path behind the Eighteen Chestnut Garden. The main lakeside road is noisy, but this path is full of old chestnut trees with dense shade. Stone tables and benches are mostly empty, perfect for sitting quietly and enjoying the breeze while casually recording forest details. Practical itinerary pace and walking intensity The main peak is under 400 meters in elevation. The terrain mainly consists of gentle steps and flat paths, with no steep or dangerous slopes. The walking intensity is low. Elderly people and young children can complete the route with breaks. The full loop covering the lake, ancient temple, and summit is about 9,500 steps. Easy, no backtracking, relaxed route (ideal for families with light hiking): From the parking lot, buy tickets online and enter → slow walk along the shallow west shore of Yingcui Lake → rest on the forest path in the Eighteen Chestnut Garden → visit the stone inscription courtyard beside Huiji Zen Temple → cool off on the Qingtan Valley creek trail → climb the main stone steps to the summit sea-view platform → descend on the gentle trail → exit at the main gate Time reference: 1. Only visit the lake and ancient temple at the foot, no climbing: under 1.5 hours 2. Complete the full loop of lake, valley, temple, and summit with multiple rest stops at pavilions: about 3.5 hours is ideal 3. Stay until sunset at the summit, watching warm light fill the countryside before descending: allow 4 hours Actual costs (tested solo): Adult tickets booked online a day in advance cost 40 yuan, 60 yuan at the window. Children 1.2–1.4 meters tall and seniors aged 60–69 with ID get half price. Children under 1.2 meters and seniors over 70 enter free. The sightseeing shuttle costs 15 yuan one way or 25 yuan round trip, optional. Cable car, forest slide, and Happy Kingdom amusement rides charge separately with no mandatory spending. Parking is 5 yuan. Simple farmhouse meals near the entrance cost about 35 yuan per person. Bringing your own water saves money. Basic solo trip costs about 50 yuan. Incense offerings inside the temple are free. Souvenirs and cultural products are optional with no pushy sales. A small reminder: The wooden boardwalk by the water and damp stone steps on the mountain are slippery. Avoid running or chasing. The gravel trail on the back mountain is uneven; try to avoid unmaintained paths. The summit cliff edges have no guardrails. Do not climb over barriers. Reflections on the visit Most visitors on short trips to Linshu prefer Zhucun or Jishan Geological Park, rarely dedicating half a day to Cangma Mountain alone. This place has no over-commercialized large amusement setups. The lake at the foot, the thousand-year-old temple, and the layered forest combine naturally. The mountain is low, so it doesn’t require much physical effort. You can experience nature’s greenery up close and quietly explore ancient architecture for peace of mind. No need to crowd the suspension bridge, temple main gate, or summit stone monument for photos. You don’t have to complete the entire hiking trail in one go. When tired, sit in a valley pavilion, enjoy the breeze, listen to the flowing creek and birdsong, and ease the restlessness built up from daily work. It’s just a 10-minute drive from Linshu county seat. The relaxed schedule can be combined with Yusheng Garden and Jishan for a one-day trip. For those who prefer light hiking with a mix of mountain, water, and ancient scenery and want to avoid crowds, try visiting on weekday mornings. You won’t have to compete for views at scenic spots or valley corners, and the slow-paced experience is peaceful and comfortable. For your nearby short trips, do you prefer purely geological valleys or light hiking scenic areas that combine lakes, mountains, and ancient temples?
