A day trip to the lake 😊
Lake Arrowhead is a go to spot for my wife and I. We would take spontaneous trips here when we were dating and there’s still so much to do, even now! It’s a easy 40 min up the mountain once you begin the trek up, and has plenty of turn out spots for beautiful pictures and sunsets. Check out Lake Arrowhead village where you can find food, shops, and lake activities to keep your day eventful from the afternoon till the evening. I highly recommend this location for an outdoor wedding venue. 😎👌🏻#outdoors #CampingGlamping #foodie

Lake Arrowhead: Southern California‘s Alpine Escape 🏔️
#underratedspots
Just a two-hour drive from Los Angeles, Lake Arrowhead sits nestled in the San Bernardino Mountains at over 5,000 feet elevation. Known as the “Little Switzerland of Southern California,” this alpine resort town feels like a European lake village—without the jet lag or passport.
Start your visit at Lake Arrowhead Village, a charming lakeside plaza filled with red-roofed chalets, boutique shops, and waterfront dining. Walk along the shore, grab coffee and watch the ducks, or time your visit for the free summer concert series on weekend evenings.
Since the lake itself is private, the Arrowhead Queen paddleboat tour is your only way to explore its 14-mile shoreline. The 50-minute narrated cruise passes stunning mansions and celebrity homes while sharing local history and geology. Tickets run around $34—well worth it.
For outdoor adventures, SkyPark at Santa‘s Village offers year-round fun with mountain biking, zip-lining, rock climbing, and ice skating in winter. Hikers can tackle trails like the Will Abell Memorial Trail (2 miles round-trip) with serene forest views, or the 4.4-mile Pinnacles Trail for more challenge.
Dining options range from the upscale Bin 189 to the casual Lakefront Tap Room, plus several restaurants with terrace seating overlooking the water.
Best times to visit: summer for boating, fall for vibrant foliage, winter for a cozy mountain retreat. Pack layers—the mountain weather can shift quickly. The drive up the “Rim of the World Highway” (CA-18) is winding and scenic, forcing you to slow down before you‘ve even arrived.
Lake Arrowhead offers what Southern California rarely provides—four distinct seasons and air so crisp it feels like you‘re breathing premium oxygen. Whether you’re seeking a lazy weekend escape or an action-packed adventure, this mountain town is California‘s hidden alpine gem. 🌲✨

A Leisurely Autumn Trip to Lake Arrowhead
A must-visit hidden gem in Southern California – Lake Arrowhead. Starting from Los Angeles, no matter which route you take, you'll eventually converge onto the scenic CA-18 mountain road. The journey takes about an hour and a half.
Our first stop was 📍Mackay Park, a hilltop park. This is the best spot to overlook the lake, offering panoramic views of Lake Arrowhead from the observation deck. While the autumn mountain scenery by the lake might not be ablaze with color, it definitely has a taste of fall. Any photo taken with a phone here is wallpaper-worthy.
After coming down from the hilltop park, I headed for lunch at 📍Hortencia's at the Cliffhanger, a cliffside restaurant. This restaurant truly offers both great ambiance and delicious food! Enjoying authentic Mexican cuisine right on the cliffside, the Fajita and Lobster Tacos are highly recommended. The food is excellent, and you can also admire the layered mountain views. The average price per person is around $30, which is fantastic.
After lunch, we returned to 📍Lake Arrowhead Village. Although the village isn't large, it has a distinct European Alpine valley charm, with red-roofed wooden shops built along the lake, each with its own unique character. There are many ducks in the lake, and shops sell duck food for one dollar a bag. There are also boat tours on the lake, with tickets costing $34. Due to my "elephant legs" (a humorous way to say I had difficulty walking or was tired), we didn't take a boat. Sitting on a bench by the lake, watching the diverse array of tourists, was also very pleasant.
💡Practical Tips:
1️⃣ There's an interesting antique shop next to the village; worth checking out.
2️⃣ On weekends, there's a beer garden and open-air concerts here, which are very down-to-earth.
3️⃣ Terrace seating at restaurants is limited, so it's recommended to dine during off-peak hours or make a reservation in advance.
4️⃣ Parking in the village is very convenient, with a sufficiently large free parking lot.
5️⃣ You can reach all the places mentioned above by navigating using their names.
