2024 Kunshan Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Kunshan is located between Shanghai and Suzhou and is famous for being the cradle of the Kunqu and Liangzhu cultures. Other than being famous for culture and art, the ancient towns are also a reason why you absolutely should not miss out on the opportunity to travel to Kunshan. Zhouzhuang Ancient Town is probably among the most famous and one of the ones which people are most familiar with. Jinxi Ancient Town and Qiandeng Ancient Town are also two water towns that still retain a lot of their original flavor. Kunshan's natural scenery is also well worth coming to see and experience. The Tinglin Park downtown does a perfect job of combining natural beauty with cultural heritage. From the Baili Plains you can clearly see Yufeng Mountain.

The museum in Kunshan is seriously underrated
Just saying 😭
Is Kunshan's cultural tourism too low-key? 😂
Such a beautiful and photogenic museum❗
Even the locals don't know about it 😵😵😵❗
The key point is that it's free admission 🎫❗
·
Honestly, the photogenic level is not inferior to the neighboring Suzhou Museum❗❗❗
And❗ because it's niche❗ there are really few people❗
You can take photos however you want❗❗❗ Friendly to visitors❗
·
Photo spot sharing:
① The stairs on both sides of the lobby as soon as you enter: each side has its own characteristics, one side is paved with flowers 🌺, exuding a fairy-like aura! The other side is minimalist with contrasting colors, giving a high-end feel instantly!
② Multimedia hall: This is absolutely beautiful! The charm of light and shadow is concentrated here! It showcases opera culture in a digital form, combining learning with fun! It's really worth seeing! Being in the flowing light and shadow, pictures cannot capture this dynamic beauty! The on-site experience is very shocking!
③ Basement floor stairs: This place lets you feel the architectural beauty of the venue! Be sure to look up and take photos!
·
Besides taking photos! There are also cultural and creative opera stages and some exhibitions! I saw 'The Female Prince Consort' that day! For those who like collecting stamps, there are Kunqu Opera-themed stamps here! They look really nice!

📍Detailed Address: Zhouzhuang Nanhu Hermitage Resort Courtyard, within the core scenic area of Zhouzhuang Ancient Town
🚗Transportation Guide: You can take a tourist bus directly from the city center to Zhouzhuang, or drive to the Zhouzhuang parking lot, then walk or take a boat to the resort courtyard.
🌟Highlights: Historic courtyard architecture, private boat experience, traditional art workshops and customized cultural activities.
⛱Hotel Environment: A blend of classical and modern design, quiet and elegant courtyard, living by the water, surrounded by many ancient relics.
💰Average Consumption: About 1500-2000 yuan/night, including some cultural experience projects.
📌Small Tips: During your stay, you might as well book the hotel's private boat and row the boat to tour the beautiful scenery of Zhouzhuang, which has a unique flavor.
🌺When I stepped into Zhouzhuang Nanhu Hermitage Resort Courtyard, it seemed as if I had opened a door to the ancient water town through time and space.
The courtyard is located in the core area of Zhouzhuang Ancient Town, surrounded by ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, as if every brick and stone carries the secret of history. Here, time becomes slow and friendly, making people forget the hustle and bustle of the city.🏮
🏡The design of the resort courtyard cleverly integrates tradition and modernity. The spacious rooms, exquisite courtyard landscape, and the design of every detail make people feel the extraordinary taste. Especially the traditional wood carving crafts in the room add a few more ancient charm.
💦In the wake of the morning, I chose to take the hotel's private boat to tour the water system of the ancient town. The breeze on my face, along the bluestone-paved alley, through the carved arch bridge, I seemed to have become a traveler who has experienced history.
🎨Hermitage not only provides accommodation, but also various cultural experience activities. I participated in its pottery workshop and made a small porcelain piece by myself. Under the guidance of a professional master, the clay flows at the fingertips, this focus and the joy of creation is a rare enjoyment in busy life.
🌜When night falls, the lights in the courtyard are warm and soft, I chose to sit in the courtyard's tea room, taste a pot of clear tea, listen to the slight waves outside, and enjoy this moment of tranquility.
📌Small Tips: The night view of Zhouzhuang has a unique charm, don't forget to take a walk in the ancient town at night to feel the night color and tranquility here.
In conclusion, Zhouzhuang Nanhu Hermitage is a place where people can intimately touch history and feel the charm of traditional art. Every moment here seems to be telling a thousand-year-old story. Whether it's the experience of being close to the water or the creation of art, it allows people to find a moment of tranquility and the source of inspiration in busy life.🍃💐

🎞Walking in the corridor of the homestay, the walls are hung with old photos from the 80s and 90s, each frame seems to be telling a past story. I picked up an old postcard and sighed at the changes of the times, but here, it is like a time capsule, preserving the unique charm of that era.

China is more beautiful than I remembered
#fallingseason
I left China in 2008 and didn’t return until this Sept. For 15 years I travelled all around Europe and Australasian, and didn’t set foot on the soil of China. Once I arrived back in China this Sept, I was taken away by the beauty of the traditional landscaped gardens in Suzhou and the night lights of Zhouzhuang….. Don’t skip a trip to China if you are planning a trip to Asia. You will taken away by its diversity in historical architecture and natural landscape, just like I was 😀
Zhouzhuang: the Most Charming Water Town
If you want an experience that includes Chinese history, culture, art, and food, this is the place! Zhouzhuang isn't far from the heart of Suzhou, and every part of this water township is delightful. The bridges, canals, and alleyways look like they fell out of paintings. The markets are extensive, with food and art and embroidery that dazzles the senses. On my trip to Suzhou, this was definitely my favorite place to visit, and I'm so glad that I went! #suzhou #zhouzhuang #watertown #solotravel #summervacation #historicculture
Zhouzhuang - The Ancient Beauty!
Zhouzhuang ancient town is huge! There are lots of things to see, do and enjoy. Expect to spend at least 2 days if you really want to get everything in. You can find souvenirs, artists and painters of all kind (I got my name written on a grain of a rice and placed in a necklace). It was pretty cool to me even though a bit pricey-ish; I paid 80+ yuan but hey, I wanted to be a tourist 😅. The boat rides are awesome too, very relaxing gives and you an eyeful of the place. I'd say visit if you're ever in Suzhou. #travelinspiration #suzhou #mytripvlog #awesomepic #tripblazers
Friend’sday-Friday
📍 Located between Shanghai (Jiading district and Kunshan city). Take a car to Kunshan and you will see many small lakes and people having picnic and spending friends and family time. This is how I found this beautiful place.
🚖 We took Didi from Jiading district of Shanghai and drove around an hour (about 300 RMB) and ending up by this beautiful lake. Perfect Friday started!
🍗 We did BBQ, played games, enjoyed the nature and took photos.
🥲 Leaving the place was a funny adventure. We stayed late and everyone was gone, and couldn’t find a taxi. 😂 So we walked about 40 minutes to the village nearby and they saw foreigners and all came to see and talk to us. Such a beautiful experience. 😍 They helped us to call a taxi and we were back by 12 am.

Jinxi, The Hometown of Folk Museums in China
Jinxi is located in Jiangsu Province, China, It is a well-known historical town with a history of more than 2,000 years. We drove to Jinxi from Suzhou (about 23 km). Jinxi is also known as Chenmu, which means the tomb of Chen. There is a touchy story about Chen, the concubine of the emperor Xiaozong. Find online for details. Jinxi is a
wonderfully delicate watery town. It is surrounded by clear water and many waterways snaking through the town. Jinxi has 36 bridges and 72 brick kilns. Gulian bridge is the most eye catching bridge among others. There are a lot of museums in Jinxi with delicate articrafts. You can complete the entire place within half day if you start visiting there early morning. You can also plan to check the other two nearby water towns `Zhouzhuang` (China`s no.1 water town) and Tongli.

Bed and breakfast at your service 🙌🏻
I found such a good place around Shanghai very accidentally, and it is also very popular! Considering repeatedly choosing to travel before a long holiday, the facts have proved very wise.
I booked room 1 in one go, each with a balcony, bathtub and shower room. The balcony is very large, facing the lake view, and it is very eye-catching.
The service is warm and thoughtful and grounded. The environment is beautiful, the air is fresh, and it is very quiet. The breakfast was good and the room was oversized, suitable for a leisurely vacation and a slow life.
I lived in House No. 1 and sent a half-hour sailing boat. The breakfast was very rich

what a resort, perfect for pets as well
The wooden house is right by the lake, the room is very big, there are several sofas in it, and there is one that can be pulled out as a small bed, which is especially suitable for families with small children. When you check in, you can book a sailboat or a yacht to take pictures on the lake to see the scenery. It is recommended that you can watch the sunset or night lights in the evening, but the staff here should get off work early and know the time in advance. If the amount of breakfast is a little bit more, I suggest you go to the restaurant to eat, because breakfast can be delivered to the room, but the amount is too small to ensure that you are full. There are more mosquitoes outside the house at night, and our doors and windows are kept closed, so we don’t fly into the house at night, ensuring a restful sleep. This is a comfortable and leisurely trip, especially water sports is a very good experience

A very pleasant sailing experience
A very pleasant experience, the hotel surprises the whole family, and it is excellent value for money. The small wooden villa is right by the water, and you can enjoy the beautiful view of Dianshan Lake from the balcony. The hotel service is also very good, responsive, and a half-hour sailing experience was given as a gift, and the children had a good time. Breakfast is freshly cooked, with Chinese and Western styles to choose from, which is more comfortable than a buffet. The family also enjoyed the service of sending dinner into the room without any service charge. Awesome, I would definitely recommend this hotel to new friends, it is very suitable for a family or a group of people for family and leisure gatherings.

very eye catching resort
The hotel is approximately 31km away from Kunshan South Railway Station. After a long day of sightseeing, guests can retire to the comfort of the hotel.
According to our guests, the location of this hotel is one of the best around.

Wonderful Bacheng
Bacheng is Kunshan's best kept secret. A small but beautiful watertown just north west of the city not far from Yangchen Lake. Bacheng has good restaurants, a wonderful tea shop, beautiful scenery and very few tourists. Bacheng is also home to the Kun Opera museum and several artisan workshops. It's quiet and tranquil; a perfect getaway.
