It's just a 5-10 minute walk from Sannomiya Station. No sense of direction? No problem! There's a 24-hour Don Quijote right across the street, making late-night shopping a breeze! 🚶🛒 JR, Hankyu, and airport buses all provide direct access, so getting here from Osaka or Kansai Airport is a piece of cake. Newly opened in 2021, the facilities are brand new and iconic. While the rooms might be a bit snug, the boutique-style design gives the whole place a really classy vibe! Some rooms even feature separate wet and dry bathrooms, perfect for those who prioritize comfort. The gym is free to use, so getting a workout in is no hassle. The most soothing part is from 8 PM to 10 PM every night when the Canvas Lounge downstairs offers free ice cream and drinks—sweetening your stay! 💕🍦 The buffet breakfast (approx. 2,300 yen) features smoked salmon and a variety of Japanese bites, which is sooo good! There's plenty to do around the hotel! It's just a 4-minute walk to Ikuta Shrine, where you can pray for a good match or snap some photos ⛩️, and a 12-minute walk to Meriken Park to catch the stunning sunset over Kobe Port—a total 10/10 for the vibe! 🌅 Walk a little further to the 24th floor of the Kobe City Hall Observation Deck for breathtaking, free panoramic night views of the city. Plus, Sannomiya is Kobe's most vibrant district, so dining out and shopping are simply top-tier. If you want a comfortable and convenient stay during your Kobe trip, THE Royal Park CANVAS - Kobe Sannomiya is definitely your top choice! Once you check in, exploring the area is super easy. Desserts, sand dunes, pristine coastlines, starry night skies, Detective Conan, and scenic railways—it's hard to imagine all these incredible elements coexisting in a single city. Tottori is a wonderfully low-key and highly underrated hidden gem. Spending a 5-day, 4-night car-free vacation here is actually quite affordable and surprisingly convenient. ▌ How to Get to Tottori? Tigerair Taiwan offers direct flights to Yonago Airport. From there, you can take a bus or the JR line to Yonago Station, then transfer to the JR San'in Main Line to reach Tottori Station. If you travel by JR, the fare is around 3,500 JPY, and the journey takes at least 2 hours. If you're visiting in the summer, I highly recommend the "Tottori Sakyu (Sand Dunes) Bus"! From July 3 to October 23, 2026, the limited-time "Tottori Sakyu Bus," a 9-seater shared taxi, will be in service. I strongly recommend booking a spot on this ride. The ride costs 4,000 JPY per person and takes about 90 minutes. Solo travelers are totally welcome to book! It costs about the same as the JR train but is far more comfortable, much faster, offers a direct ride from the airport, and even stops at famous Detective Conan attractions along the way. There's honestly no reason not to take it! ▌ From Namba, Osaka to Tottori: A Perfect Combo Trip Tottori pairs perfectly with Osaka for a longer 6 to 7-day trip. You can fly into Osaka and fly out from Tottori (Yonago). Start by exploring Osaka for a few days, then hop on the incredibly cheap 1,000 JPY highway bus from Namba OCAT. To snag this one-way deal, you must board at Namba OCAT. You can reserve your spot online in advance, then pick up your ticket and pay at the station counter. · Namba OCAT Highway Bus: 3 hours, 1,000 JPY · JR Super Hakuto Express: 2.5 hours, 7,500 JPY Given the massive price difference for just an extra 30 minutes of travel, the bus is an absolute steal. The highway bus is super comfy, featuring spacious seats with plenty of legroom and privacy curtains between passengers. There’s also a quick pit stop at a rest area along the way for a restroom break. ※ Note: This special fare is exclusively for the Namba OCAT ⇒ Tottori Station route. It does not apply if you board at Umeda or Kobe. ▌ Where to Stay in Tottori? I highly recommend staying near Tottori Station. It offers the best variety of options at very affordable prices. For example, the Tottori Green Hotel Morris costs only about 2,000 TWD per night and boasts top-notch service and quality. If you’re looking for a more unique experience, consider staying near the Tottori Sand Dunes. For instance, "Sayu" offers a fantastic glamping experience. You can grab some deli food at AEON for dinner, or even rent BBQ equipment for a cookout. On clear nights, it's the perfect spot for stargazing. For Convenience ⭢ Tottori Green Hotel Morris (near Tottori Station) For a Unique Experience ⭢ Sayu Glamping (near Tottori Sand Dunes) ▌ Getting Around Tottori: A Guide to Local Transportation There are four main ways to get around Tottori: Local Buses, the 100-Yen "Kururi" Loop Bus, JR Trains, and the Tottori Tourist Taxi. Google Maps works flawlessly here, so simply fire up the app for easy navigation. · Local Buses (Numbered Routes) This is your primary mode of transport from Tottori Station to major sights like the Tottori Sand Dunes, The Sand Museum, and the Uradome Coast (Routes 33, 32). Board from the rear door and grab a paper ticket. When exiting from the front door, match your ticket number to the fare display board to pay. You can now use ICOCA (and other nationwide IC transit cards). Just tap your card or smartphone on the reader when boarding and alighting. · "Kururi" 100-Yen Loop Bus A handy loop bus for getting around downtown Tottori, stopping at city highlights like the Tottori Prefectural Museum, the Warabekan Toy Museum, and the Tottori Castle Ruins. A flat fare of just 100 JPY per ride, and it also accepts ICOCA and other major IC cards. · JR Trains You'll likely use JR trains if you're heading south of Tottori to places like Chizu or the Wakasa Railway. Keep in mind that some smaller stations in Tottori don’t support IC cards. I highly recommend buying paper tickets for a hassle-free trip. · Tottori Tourist Taxi For 6,000 JPY, you get 3 hours in a sightseeing taxi with 22 tailored routes to choose from, covering almost every must-see spot in Tottori. No advanced booking is required! Simply drop by the Tottori City International Tourist Support Center in front of the station, and the staff will arrange a taxi for you. Each stop has an allocated visiting time, which is usually perfectly paced. This is the ultimate travel hack for groups. Tottori's local bus schedules can be sparse, so hiring a tourist taxi will save you a ton of time. ▌ Top Attractions: What to Do and See in Tottori · Must-Try Tottori Food · Ooe Valley Farm | Soufflé Pancakes We unanimously agreed that this is the best food in Tottori. Their soufflé pancakes are incredibly fragrant with a rich, eggy flavor. They’re perfectly baked—neither soggy nor deflated—maintaining a wonderfully fluffy, cloud-like texture until the last bite. If you have a sweet tooth, make this a top priority. It's a wildly popular treat that easily rivals the famous dessert spots in major cities. |Getting There|Take the JR Inbi Line to Koge Station, then transfer to the Yazu Bus, or take Tottori Tourist Taxi Route 21. · Kaitensushi Hokkaido | Conveyor Belt Sushi The sushi here is deliciously fresh. The only downside is the massive crowd, especially during peak dining hours. I suggest visiting between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM to avoid the rush. Plus, they offer unlimited free-flowing miso soup during lunch! The Ekinan branch is quite close to Tottori Station—just a quick bicycle ride away. |Getting There|By car or rental bicycle (via HELLO CYCLING). · Ryudou | Beef Bone Ramen Tottori’s regional specialty is beef bone ramen, featuring a clear, savory beef broth infused with a peppery kick. This particular shop serves a bowl that’s light, refreshing, and never too greasy. I highly recommend adding a side of their delicious beef tendon rice—it’s absolutely worth it. |Getting There|Right in front of Tottori Station. · Top Attractions in Tottori Here are my personal favorites: · Tottori Sand Dunes (Best at Dusk) The ultimate quintessential Tottori experience, and it's easily accessible by bus. While the dunes are open 24/7, I highly recommend visiting at dusk. The weather is cooler, and the golden hour sunlight casts a mesmerizing, warm glow over the rippling sand. The sand here isn't sticky—it dusts right off with a gentle pat, making barefoot walks incredibly comfortable. The dunes also offer plenty of activities like sandboarding and camel rides. If you have the time, definitely give them a try! |Getting There|By bus (Routes 32, 33, or the Tottori Sand Dunes Line) or Tottori Tourist Taxi. · The Sand Museum Located right next to the dunes, this sand sculpture museum is an absolute must-visit. The theme changes annually, and this year’s spotlight is on "Spain." The exhibit beautifully showcases Spain's iconic architecture and vibrant cultural heritage, all crafted entirely from sand. Amazingly, after each exhibition, these intricate sculptures are broken down to be recycled for the following year's masterpieces. |Getting There|By bus (Routes 32, 33, or the Tottori Sand Dunes Line) or Tottori Tourist Taxi. · Uradome Coast Island Sightseeing Boat (Small Boat "Uradome-go") There are two boat tour options for the Uradome Coast: the standard Sightseeing Cruise (Meguri) and the smaller "Uradome-go" boat. I strongly recommend the smaller "Uradome-go." It allows you to weave through the rocky reefs and get an up-close look at the stunning sea caves and dramatic coastline. However, its operation depends heavily on the weather, so catching a ride requires a little bit of luck. Honestly, both options are spectacular. These cruises offer a rare chance to fully appreciate the rugged beauty of the Uradome Coast. Die-hard "Detective Conan" fans should definitely save their souvenir shopping for the dedicated gift shop at Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport. ▌ Final Thoughts | A Slow, Cozy, and Crowd-Free Getaway While Tottori isn’t overrun with tourists, its attractions are impeccably maintained and smoothly operated: From the 24/7 accessible sand dunes and the reliable coastal sightseeing cruises, to the brilliantly organized tourist taxi system. You never have to worry about getting lost or confused—English information is clear, and the staff are incredibly welcoming and experienced. The lack of massive crowds means you can actually take your time. There's none of that big-city anxiety where you feel forced to wake up at dawn just to beat the queues. The Tottori Sand Dunes are open in all their seasonal glory, waiting along the pristine San'in Coast for you to experience travel in its most unpretentious and purest form.

Shin-Nagata is home to Tetsujin 28-go! It's a town associated with the creator, Mitsuteru Yokoyama. Tetsujin 28-go is in a plaza about a 3-minute walk from Shin-Nagata Station. Everyone loves him. Mitsuteru Yokoyama also drew "Kamen no Ninja Akakage," "Mahoutsukai Sally," and even the manga version of "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," so Shin-Nagata is also known as the town of the Three Kingdoms. There are statues of him all over the place. 🚩Highlights How about a stroll where you can encounter Tetsujin 28-go and characters from the Three Kingdoms? 🚩Highlights If you go from Tetsujin 28-go through the shopping street and across the national highway, you'll find the Kobe Film Archive. Right next to the baths, you'll find standing bars, perfect for enjoying a drink after your bath. 🚩Okonomiyaki and Soba-yaki You can't talk about Shin-Nagata without mentioning okonomiyaki. Should you eat it with a spatula or chopsticks? Or is it a spatula or a wooden spatula? Is it yakisoba or soba-yaki? Heated debates take place everywhere. He previously worked at the renowned restaurant Kaiyin and apprenticed under the legendary master Shunji Kenjo, mastering years of traditional Edomae techniques 👍🏻 Plus, if you're seated after 1:30 PM for lunch, you'll get a 10% discount 🤩 🌟 Smoked Assorted Seafood Donburi This seafood rice bowl features salmon, a trio of tuna, and yellowtail. Dry-aging the seafood not only gives it a firmer texture and enhances its natural sweetness, but also adds a rich, woody smoked aroma. 🌟 Kinmokusei Omakase Seafood Donburi Packed with over ten types of premium sashimi, showing true dedication to quality ingredients. My absolute favorite is the marinated mackerel—the vinegar treatment perfectly brings out the fish's natural sweetness. The sushi rice is beautifully distinct and chewy, so I highly recommend asking for an extra portion of rice!

Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens is the largest herb garden in Japan. Nestled on a mountaintop that feels like a hidden paradise, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of downtown Kobe and the Port of Kobe. Visitors typically ride a retro ropeway up the mountain, taking in the natural beauty of sights like the Nunobiki Falls along the way. Once inside the park, you can soak up the European-style mountain villa vibe, admire seasonal flowers, and enjoy a variety of hands-on herb DIY activities. Core Park Highlights: The Mountaintop Observation Plaza, the Herb and Flower Paradise, the Foot Bath, and the Glasshouse. Transportation: By Ropeway: Take the Kobe Municipal Subway to Shin-Kobe Station. After exiting, follow the signs for about a 10-minute walk to reach the ropeway boarding area at the Herb Gardens Bottom Station.

This time, I ordered ・Akinoen (990 yen) ・Churros (6 pieces) (850 yen) 📝 "Akinoen" is their signature Mont Blanc soft-serve 🍦, piping three flavors into a single layered treat: Yame matcha, Kumamoto Japanese chestnut, and strawberry. It beautifully visualizes the gradient of autumn leaves fading from "Green to Gold to Crimson," making it visually stunning 🍁. A round lattice tuile is garnished with a black bean and gold flakes, adding a refined Japanese elegance ✨. For the soft-serve base, you can choose between milk, matcha, or a mix. I wanted to taste both, so I went with the mix this time ☺️. The matcha is incredibly rich, offering an authentic deep tea flavor. Together with the smooth and mellow milk, it created a perfect balance with the Mont Blanc topping ✨️. The Mont Blanc is smooth and delicate, offering a sophisticated sweetness. The churros are made from scratch in-store, so you get to enjoy them freshly fried and piping hot. They are bite-sized, making them super easy to eat, with a perfectly crispy outside and a chewy inside. You can choose from 7 different dipping sauces: Yame Matcha Kuromitsu Kinako (Black syrup & roasted soybean flour) Strawberry Black Sesame Chocolate Caramel Setouchi Lemon Custard This time, I went with strawberry and Kuromitsu Kinako. The sweet and tart strawberry paired perfectly with the churros, and the Kuromitsu Kinako had a rich, traditional Japanese sweetness that I absolutely loved 💗. . . . . Located right under the atoa aquarium, it's a great spot to grab a bite after your visit or just to take a break. There seemed to be a live concert nearby that day, so the food hall was packed with a lively crowd. There’s plenty of seating available, and it’s open from noon until quite late at night, which is super convenient ◎. Let me introduce the lunch at "Harapeko Hanten," a highly talked-about and popular spot in Kobe♪ It's located just a 3-minute walk from Motomachi Station and a 5-minute walk from Sannomiya Station. Upon entering, you place your order at the front register first. It's a pay-in-advance, cash-only system. Water is self-serve. There are four lunch options: ① Signature Lu Rou Fan (Braised Pork Rice) - 1,500 yen ② Curry Mapo Tofu - 1,500 yen ③ Chili Shrimp Rice - 1,700 yen ④ Taco Rice - 1,300 yen You can also add a soft drink for an extra 250 yen. It was a tough choice, but I went with their #1 most popular dish: the Lu Rou Fan. It comes with a chopped salad featuring chickpeas and okra, chilled whole-wheat curry soba, tofu topped with a fermented shiso and green onion sauce, and a serving of Yu Lin Chi (fried chicken with sweet and sour soy sauce) that totally feels like a main dish on its own! It seriously comes with two pieces of fried chicken (Yu Lin Chi) the size of a fist! lol Apparently, they intentionally make them this big to keep the meat super juicy. The main dish, the Lu Rou Fan, was also absolutely delicious, with Japanese pepper (sansho) adding a great little kick. After the meal, you get their homemade almond soft serve. It comes with every lunch meal. It’s really refreshing and smooth♪ I went just before noon on a weekday without a reservation. But there's a catch: onsen have very strict rules, and if you don't know them, you could find yourself in an awkward situation (or even not be allowed in at all). Save this cheat sheet before your trip 👇 ▪️ Onsen = a hot spring with natural mineral water from underground. They are often located in incredibly beautiful places – forests, mountains, with views of a river or Mount Fuji. ▪️ You must enter a public onsen completely naked – swimsuits are prohibited. Before bathing, you must thoroughly wash yourself in the shower area. ▪️ Onsen are almost always separated by gender. If you feel uncomfortable going to a public onsen, book a private onsen. ▪️ Tattoos are a big problem 🚫 You can't enter many onsen with them. As the start of this Setouchi trip, the lingering echo of "So close, so beautiful, weekend to KOBE" stayed with me. From initially only expecting Kobe beef to leaving with a feeling of wanting more, this city definitely calls for a return visit! ✈️ Chengdu - Shenzhen - Osaka - Kobe 🏨 Kobe Sannomiya Koko Hotel Very clean. When I checked in, I found the bedside lamp in the room was broken, so I immediately went to the front desk and got a new room. The hotel location is good; the Kansai to Sannomiya bus stops right in front of Hankyu, and it’s about a five-minute walk to the hotel. It’s also not far from the busy area, so dining and shopping are quite convenient. Day 1️⃣ Meriken Park ➡️ Ichiran Ramen ➡️ Don Quijote Day 2️⃣ Maiko ➡️ Suma ➡️ Sannomiya Shopping ➡️ Blue Bottle Coffee ➡️ Kobe University ➡️ Kobe Beef ➡️ Okayama 🌊 Recommended Check-in Spots 🔹 Meriken Park / Kobe Port / Anpanman Museum and Ferris Wheel 🎡 Since I left the hotel in the evening on the first day, I only went near Kobe Port, but at that time the sun was setting and the sea breeze felt just right! 🔹 Maiko Park 🌴 ▫️ Maiko Marine Promenade: About 47 meters above the sea, 317 meters long, 300 yen 🎫, elevator to the 8th floor. ▫️ Ijokaku: Opened to the public in 1984 as the "Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall." Unfortunately, it’s closed on Mondays, but the building paired with the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge is very beautiful! ▫️ Dream Mirror: Probably the best photo spot here, with a queue for photos 📸 🔹 Suma 🏝️ Very close, reachable by JR from Maiko. I arrived around noon, and because it was very sunny, I just sat by the coast enjoying the sea breeze. Found a noodle shop near the station for lunch. Honestly, it’s okay for zoning out and playing in the sand, but it’s not the most beautiful spot 😂 🔹 Kobe University ▫️ Best sunset photo spot is the "Kobe University Centennial Memorial Hall." Navigate to Starbucks; we arrived at 18:14 but it was already closed. The view is truly beautiful. We wandered nearby, with students coming and going after class, giving a very youthful and scholarly campus vibe. 🛍️ About Shopping Shopping in Kobe is amazing—few people, lots of items, and big stores. ▫️ Kobe Hankyu (5% discount) / Blue Bottle ▫️ Independent stores: Arc'teryx (many styles, fewer people, can get tax refund + UnionPay card, don’t forget to check ‘Trip.com Global Shopping’ discounts!) / Beams / Patagonia / APC... Finally, about food: online recommendations often show large portions, but I recommend Googling by cuisine ratings to avoid any disappointments, especially since you can preview menus to avoid wasting time struggling with Japanese menus in the restaurant 🫣 Clearly, 24 hours in Kobe is not enough, which is the perfect reason to come back next time! 💜

Growing up, I've realized that I prefer places where I can just slow down.✨ I used to think that traveling was all about seeing the world, but lately, I've come to realize that it's really more about nurturing the soul.☺️ My life and work have been pretty hectic over the past few years, juggling the kids' classes, performances, schedules, and responsibilities. Sometimes, I get so exhausted I forget to even catch my breath. Because of that, I find myself drawn more and more to small, slow-paced towns. No overwhelming crowds, no rigid itineraries to check off— just quiet strolls and taking in the scenery is enough to bring me a sense of inner peace.✨ This time, I'm really looking forward to visiting Arima Onsen and Mount Rokko for a little wander.
