The farm is run by a local couple, Samuli and Päivi. Although not of Sami descent, they deeply love Sami culture, wear traditional Sami clothing daily, and live a life alongside reindeer. Samuli used to be a renovation worker, and Päivi worked at a children’s welfare center. United by their love for animals, they left their jobs and built this reindeer farm by hand on their 5-hectare land. The farm not only raises many reindeer but also houses dozens of animals from different places. Päivi told me that while working at the children’s welfare center, she found that autistic or disabled children often experienced unexpected healing through interaction with animals. For this reason, they specially created a small zoo that opens to children from time to time, letting animals become angels that soothe the soul. Here, visitors can experience authentic Sami life. You can feed them, take photos, and pet them. (The farm owner also has two adorable and affectionate dogs.) The experience lasts about ten minutes. The ride is slow and not too bumpy. You can slowly feel the world quiet down. Everyone seems to understand each other perfectly; no one speaks, just quietly listening to the "swish, swish" of the reindeer sleds on the snow. At that moment, I felt incredibly peaceful. · After the experience, the farm owner takes us to a warm wooden cabin where we enjoy hot tea and bread around a campfire. The tea and bread are delicious. The only activity in Sørensen was a ride on the icebreaker ship early the third morning! The whole activity took about half a day. We first boarded the ship to hear the crew's history, then toured the crew's rest cabin and bridge with the crew, and finally, we could wear lobster suits and go down into the icy sea. Our experience was rather unique. Originally, the icebreaker was supposed to go icebreaking out to sea, and we were supposed to go icebreaking in the middle of the sea. However, because the days leading up to our visit were relatively warm, the ice wasn't thick. The icebreaker is a large ship, and it requires very thick ice to go out to sea. So, after visiting the icebreaker, we experienced icebreaking a short distance from the shore, before transferring to their newer icebreaker, the Fiery Cross, to go icebreaking out. We watched the sunrise at the icebreaker, and the sunset at the Fiery Cross—we were very lucky! The three-walled glass design allowed our room to face a frozen sea – the view was breathtaking. 🚿 Accommodation Tips (A Must-Read for Accommodation Enthusiasts): · Curtain Details: The curtains were the perfect size for the windows, but you had to draw them precisely to ensure privacy. · Hot Water Usage: The bathroom was spacious, but there was a 13-minute limit on the hot water supply. However, as long as you don't waste water while showering, the hot water supply was more than enough. 🌌 Aurora and Surrounding Amenities: · Aurora Viewing Spot: We saw the aurora as soon as we stepped out of our room and faced north (towards the hotel parking lot). · Conveniences: There's a small shop next to the front desk that stays open late for snacks and drinks, as well as a souvenir shop selling cute dolls. It's one of the most memorable experiences of my life; the whole process was incredibly enriching and wonderful. ❄️ About the "Lobster Suit" Floating Experience: · Wearing Details: The lobster suit is very snug, providing excellent buoyancy and warmth. Before putting it on, you need to remove your coat and shoes. There are lockers available for your personal belongings. · Attentive Staff: Staff will assist you while you put it on. The person who helped me was very attentive, even tucking my bangs into the suit to ensure I looked good in photos—a very thoughtful touch. · Floating Experience: Once in the water, simply relax with your face up. The most tiring part is your neck (because you have to lift it slightly). You can decide when to get back on the boat based on your physical condition; staff will be there to support you throughout. 🚢 Time on the Sanbao: · Icebreaking Healing: Watching the large ice floes on the sea break into pieces by the ship was incredibly therapeutic. · Views and Facilities: The views from the top floor are incredibly expansive, absolutely breathtaking on a clear day. If you're sensitive to the cold, you can relax in the indoor lounge area, where the scenery through the large windows is also crystal clear. The best part of the 10-day trip… Wearing this thermal jacket, I wasn't cold at all in the ice water! So much fun! We also went to Santa Claus Village. I recommend not spending too much time there. Take a photo, write a postcard, wander around, and that's it! We even took some beautiful photos! 😆 We saw the aurora borealis for three days straight – so lucky! But because of the time difference, it was definitely worth it!
