It was our first visit to Tanzania and our first safari. Initially, we planned to do it only once, but we will definitely come back — and it will only be with Obama Safari. The whole experience was incredible. Thanks to Obama's expertise, we managed to see so much during our stay, simply remarkable. While other drivers avoided challenging routes, Obama’s experience allowed us to reach those places despite difficult roads. We were lucky to witness the migration of zebras and wildebeest, spotting lions, leopards, elephants, and cheetahs along the way. Aside from wildlife, we visited the Hadzabe bushmen, the Maasai tribe, and even a coffee plantation/roastery. The trip was filled with variety and immense fun. Coincidentally, my birthday fell during the safari, and that day turned out to be truly unforgettable: we saw a cheetah kill, followed by a delightful surprise at the lodge. The lodges Obama chose for us were amazing — the food was delicious, the views were breathtaking, and the overall experience was extraordinary. The service was exceptional and worth repeating. #itinerarycheck Most people cram Ngorongoro Crater and skip Empakaai. Bad call. I drove from Karatu at 6:30 am, reached Nainokanoka gate by 8:00, paid 70.80 USD conservation entry (24-hour clock starts at gate stamp) plus 23.60 USD walking permit and 23.60 USD armed ranger fee per group. No cash—prepaid through operator or TANAPA card machine. From the gate it is 45 minutes on rough track to the rim trailhead where Maasai herders park their bicycles. The walk to the north rim is 3 km gentle downhill through tussock grass; then the rim itself stretches 7 km round if you go both sides. I only did the west rim to the descent point: 300 m down to the crater floor takes 40 minutes, steep switchbacks, pinkish soil. At the bottom, Empakaai Lake fills half the 6 km caldera and in January held maybe 2,000 flamingos. No vehicles allowed inside, which is the whole point. Key lessons: do not attempt rim-to-floor without ranger; buffalo trails cross the descent. Carry 3 L water—there is none below. I wore trail runners, slipped twice, would take mid boots next time. Maasai at Nainokanoka sell walking sticks for 5,000 TZS; buy one. Best light is 4–6 pm on the west wall. I camped at Nainokanoka with a cook for 110 USD total; cheaper to sleep in Karatu and drive early but you lose the dawn mist over Ol Doinyo Lengai across the rift. Is Empakaai better than the main Ngorongoro Crater? Quietly, yes—if you walk.

Staying three nights at Serengeti Simba Lodge means waking up to the vast grasslands right outside your window, while Lobo Wildlife Lodge features a cliffside pool overlooking the northern Serengeti. Before arriving, my biggest concern was the accommodation—what kind of place can you stay in the African savannah? 🤨 Over 12 days, I experienced four types of accommodations, ranging from city hotels to wilderness lodges, with a disparity that was truly astonishing. 🏨 Kibo Palace Arusha|5-Star City Hotel Stayed here on Day 2 and Day 10, one of the best hotels in Arusha. It offers five-star amenities, including air conditioning and hot water. After arriving, a hot shower was the perfect way to recharge. This is the last bastion of civilization before heading into the savannah. Day 2/Day 10 🛖 KARATU Simba|4-Star Guesthouse Stayed here on Day 3 and Day 9. While not as luxurious as the city hotel, it was clean and tidy. Its biggest advantage is its location—situated between Tarangire and Serengeti, saving time on travel. Day 3/Day 9 🏕️ Serengeti Simba Lodge|Savannah Lodge Stayed here for three nights on Day 4, Day 7, and Day 8, the longest stay of the trip. Featuring thatched roofs and stone walls, the lodge opens directly onto the Serengeti grasslands. The pool faces the horizon, making sunset dips with acacia tree silhouettes a priceless experience. At night, the sound of lions roaring outside the tent woke me up for the first time, my heart racing at 180 bpm. Day 4/Day 7/Day8 ⛰️ Lobo Wildlife Lodge|Cliffside Wilderness Lodge Stayed here for two nights on Day 5 and Day 6, located at the northernmost part of the Serengeti. The lodge is built on a rocky slope, with a pool perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the northern grasslands. Its remote location means fewer tourists but a higher density of wildlife. Dining on the terrace at night, zebras casually strolled below. Day 5/Day 6 🛏️ Room Interiors Thatched roofs and wooden structures with African-style decor. Open the balcony door, and the grasslands are right there. At night, you can hear the distant calls of animals—a unique experience that city hotels can never offer. 📸 Photography Tips · Simba Lodge pool + sunset are must-captures; golden hour lasts only 15 minutes. · Lobo pool overlooking the grasslands is the best spot for photos. · Rooms with thatched roofs and wooden structures are perfect for atmospheric shots. 💡 Travel Tips · Savannah lodges don’t have air conditioning, only ceiling fans. Temperatures at night in July-August drop to 15°C, so it’s not too hot. · WiFi is almost non-existent; download offline maps and music in advance. · Rooms may have insects; bring mosquito repellent and mosquito coils. · Lobo’s remote location means longer travel times, but it’s worth it. · Hot water can be unstable; shower early rather than late.

A very good and professional agency. In five days, we visited Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and Lake Manyara National Parks, as well as the town of Karatu, rice and banana plantations. Additionally, we explored Serval Wildlife Park, where we were able to closely admire some semi-tamed wild animals.

I’ll start with our driver/guide (Wilson), who was excellent in every aspect—his friendliness, patience, and deep knowledge of the environment and animals were remarkable. We left this trip feeling much more educated and aware of things we had no idea about. Kudos to Wilson, an outstanding professional! As for the Safari, once again, it was excellent! Next time, I plan to add one more night in the Serengeti and another night at Lake Manyara, ideally at the incredible Escarpment Luxury Lodge. A 10-day Safari would be perfect. Zanzibar was 5*****—the ideal ending to a trip, allowing us to recharge our batteries. The transfers were flawless. Thank you so much for the wonderful trip!

We had an incredible safari with GoSheni. Our guide Samir was highly experienced and possessed a sharp eye for spotting wildlife. He was also very knowledgeable about everything nature has to offer. We enjoyed a private 7-day/6-night safari, and all the accommodations were excellent. Our itinerary included Serengeti (2 days), Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, and Tarangire, along with visits to the Hadzabe and Datoga tribes. It was absolutely delightful, and we will definitely return in the future.

Tanzania turned out to be an extraordinary country, not just for its national parks and the beaches in Zanzibar, but also for the culture of its people. Everyone is incredibly helpful and remarkably kind. As for Tanzania Specialist, they deliver on what they promise, though there was a planning error they didn't correct (they treated it as a modification or cancellation on our part, which clearly wasn't the case). Transfers were punctual. The selected hotels were somewhat inconsistent, with excellent accommodations like Mvuli Ngorongoro and Bela Bela Omdera, but others like Samora River Lodge were of a much lower standard. Since this was our second trip to Africa, we had specific preferences for activities and schedules. The guide faced some difficulty in explaining the reasoning behind certain schedules or providing alternatives, possibly due to limitations in their Spanish or English. This required us to be very clear and direct about what we wanted. For instance, we didn't want to rush back to the hotel after lunch in the parks, as they are open until 6 PM. In Serengeti, we preferred an early morning safari from 6:30 to 12 and another in the afternoon, with a lunch break in between, instead of a continuous schedule from 8 AM to 4 PM. I recommend carefully planning your preferences, considering the guide's advice, and then firmly conveying your decisions to ensure your desires are fulfilled.

My wife and I booked a 10-day Safari trip with Makinda from Instinct Tours, and it was an incredible value for the money. We spent 3 days in Tarangire National Park, 4 days in the Serengeti, and 1 day at the Ngorongoro Crater, with additional stops in Karatu and Arusha. The accommodations and food were consistently excellent, but the true standout of our trip was Makinda himself. He was an exceptional guide, deeply knowledgeable about the parks, their flora and fauna, as well as the culture and politics of the region. He also acted as an amazing liaison with the hotels and a general problem-solver throughout our journey. I cannot recommend this company enough. Travel with Makinda and Instinct Tours for the “trip of a lifetime”!

The private tour was perfectly organized. Emmanuel was highly knowledgeable and shared plenty of extra information. Visiting the Hadzabe and Datoga tribes was fascinating. It felt authentic and not commercialized, as we were the only visitors there.

From the very beginning, we felt as though we were treated exclusively, as if we were their top priority. Our trip was organized down to the smallest detail during the days of our safari, starting with a warm welcome at Arusha airport by Erik and Magogo. They offered a tour of local sites and then took us to a peaceful haven, the Arusha Explorers Lodge. The following day, we began our safari in Tarangire early in the morning, where Fortunatus joined as the driver alongside Magogo, our Spanish-speaking guide. Together, they made an incredible, complementary team. We spent the night at Mvuli Mountain Lodge Ngorongoro, another standout location. After Tarangire, we visited Serengeti, where our guides went above and beyond to ensure we saw as many animals as possible, and they succeeded impressively. Here, we stayed at WildLux Serengeti Camp, which was equally spectacular. Next, we explored the stunning Ngorongoro Crater park, concluding our safari at Mvuli Lodge before being taken back to Arusha airport to continue our journey to Zanzibar. We must highlight the excellent performance of Magogo and Fortunatus throughout the trip. Both the food in the parks and accommodations, as well as the service and attention from the hotel staff, were outstanding. We left with a touch of regret for not having extended our safari by at least another day, as everything was made incredibly easy for us.
