Kangping travel guide and discussion

As I stepped into the exhibition hall, my gaze was immediately captured by the Liao Dynasty gold mask. Unearthed at the Zhangjiayao Forest Farm in Kangping County, it gleams with a golden luster, its facial features clearly defined, and its ears still bear traces of adornments. Even through the glass, you can feel the mysterious and majestic aura of Liao Dynasty noble burial customs from a millennium ago, making you instinctively hold your breath. In the adjacent display case, the grassland charm of Liao porcelain greets you. The green-glazed perforated ewer features a rustic design, while the intricate floral patterns on the white-glazed, brown-painted meiping vase are both delicate and captivating. Most stunning is the white-glazed, black-painted meiping vase, where deer and beasts leap across the vessel. The brushwork is bold and vivid, instantly bringing the wildness of the grasslands to life. The yellow-glazed jar and bird-shaped pot also reflect the simplicity of nomadic life, making every photo you take feel like a story in itself. From the golden luxury and grassland porcelain charm of the Liao Dynasty to the brick ramparts of the Ming Dynasty, this exhibition serves as an excellent window into understanding the historical tapestry of Shenyang. Visitor guide and tips 📝 Key highlights: Liao Dynasty gold mask, white-glazed, black-painted meiping vase with deer motif, and the model of Bao'an Gate from the Ming Dynasty Zhongwei City. 📌 Excavation site: Many Liao Dynasty treasures were unearthed at the "Zhangjiayao Forest Farm in Kangping County," an important landmark for Liao Dynasty archaeology. ✅ Visit tips: The exhibition hall is dimly lit, so please pay attention to the labels for key artifacts. For ceramics, we recommend observing the patterns from multiple angles, and the city defense model is best viewed from above to appreciate the full panorama. ⏰ Trip planning: Perfect for history buffs and those seeking an in-depth, off-the-beaten-path experience. We recommend setting aside 1.5 hours for an immersive visit.

Shenyang, a city sculpted by both history and nature, possesses both the profound heritage of being the "birthplace of a dynasty and capital of two generations of emperors" and the ecological poetry of "vast green fields and drifting clouds." From the red walls of the Imperial Palace to the stone elephants at the Northern Tomb, and from the stone bridges of Qipanshan to the grasslands of Faku, every landscape is an extension of the city's texture—a narrative poem interwoven with time and space. It is not boisterous, yet it has its own strength; it is not ostentatious, yet it hides details worth pausing for everywhere. The vermilion palace walls tower into the clouds, forming a sharp contrast with the blue sky and white clouds. The eaves of the corners are faintly visible, hinting at the exquisite structure of traditional architecture. This shade of red is the iconic color of the Shenyang Imperial Palace, symbolizing the majesty of imperial power and the weight of history. Standing beneath the walls, one can almost hear the echoes of hoofbeats and the morning bells and evening drums from a century ago. It is not just a part of the architecture, but a carrier of the city's memory, reminding people that this was once the birthplace of the Qing Dynasty. A stone path winds through the dense forest, with sunlight filtering through the branches to cast dappled shadows, creating a serene and far-reaching atmosphere. This path might be located in Beiling Park or Dongling Park, where the trees are tall and straight, full of greenery, providing a natural oxygen bar for the city. Walking through it, with light steps, one's mind also becomes calm. This is an ideal place for citizens to relax and walk, for the elderly to exercise in the morning, and for children to play; it is also an excellent spot for photography enthusiasts to capture natural light and shadow. A stone elephant stands quietly surrounded by green trees, its body carved with delicacy, its expression solemn yet gentle. This stone elephant is likely one of the guardian beasts in front of the Zhaoling or Fuling Mausoleum of the Qing Dynasty, symbolizing auspiciousness, strength, and stability. Its presence not only adds to the solemnity of the place but also embodies people's wishes for peace and eternity. Surrounded by lush trees, the environment is quiet, as if time has frozen here. It says nothing, yet in the most silent way, it guards the history and memories of this land. An ancient stone bridge spans the stream, its body built of bluestone, with exquisitely carved railings. Beneath the bridge, the water murmurs, and both banks are shaded by green trees. This bridge might be located in Qipanshan or along the Hunhe River; it is not only a passage for traffic but also a focal point of the landscape. Standing on the bridge, one can overlook the flowing water, gaze at the distant green hills, and feel the poetry of "small bridges, flowing water, and households." It has witnessed the footsteps of countless passersby and carried the occurrence of countless stories; it is an indispensable "poetic node" in the city. Vast green hills stretch out under the blue sky and white clouds. The clouds are thick and layered, and sunlight pierces through the gaps to shine on the earth, creating an effect of alternating light and shadow. This scene might have been captured in the hilly areas of Faku or Kangping. The vastness of the sky and the tranquility of the earth form a strong contrast, making one feel the grandeur of nature and the insignificance of humanity. This is a pure land far from the hustle and bustle of the city, a space where the soul can be released. Endless green fields shine brightly under the sun, with distant mountains looming, and the sky as blue as if washed. These fields might be the rice paddies or grasslands in Shenbei New District or Sujiatun District. The lush vegetation not only beautifies the environment but also provides an important ecological barrier for the city. This is a classroom for children to learn about nature, a canvas for photography enthusiasts to capture the changing seasons, and a haven for city residents to escape the concrete jungle and return to the countryside. A path shaded by dense trees, where sunlight spills through the gaps in the leaves, forming spots of light. The light and shadow on the ground are intertwined, dreamlike and fantastic. This path might be located on the campus green space of Liaoning University or Northeastern University. The trees are tall and dense, forming a natural green tunnel. Walking through it feels like being in a fairy tale world. The changes in light and shadow are constantly evolving with time and wind direction; every moment is a unique landscape. Looking up from a low angle, the blue sky is clear, and a few green leaves sway gently in the wind. The branches stretch out, forming a simple and poetic picture. This photo might have been taken in the green belt near Youth Park or Zhongshan Square. It has no grand scene, but it touches the heart with the smallest details—a leaf, a ray of sunlight, a piece of blue sky—constituting the beauty most easily overlooked in city life. The vast grassland extends to the horizon, the grass is green, and a few low buildings or yurts are dotted in the distance. The sky is covered with thick clouds, foreshadowing the coming wind and rain. This grassland might be located in the Faku or Kangping area, a typical northern grassland landscape. This is a great place for herdsmen to graze, tourists to camp, and photographers to take pictures. The vastness of the grassland makes one's heart open, and the whistling of the wind seems to be telling the ancient legends of the nomadic people. Neat farmland or pastures, with a few houses or farmsteads visible in the distance. The sky is overcast, but the light is soft, and the overall atmosphere is quiet and warm. These fields might be located in the agricultural villages of Yuhong District or Xinmin City. This is a transition zone between the city and the countryside, possessing both the orderliness of modern agriculture and the warmth of traditional farming. The smoke from kitchen chimneys in the morning, the birds returning in the evening, and the figures working in the fields constitute a vivid "picture of pastoral life." Having explored lesser-known ancient sites in western and northern Liaoning for years, this time I drove north from downtown Shenyang and discovered a rarely visited millennium-old secret—the Baota Temple in Xiaotazi Village, Haoguantun Town, Kangping. Unlike the heavily commercialized Qing dynasty Four Pagodas temples in Shenyang city, this site preserves authentic Liao dynasty ancient pagodas and city ruins. There are no crowds, admission is free, and it’s perfect for history enthusiasts and short self-driving trips. It connects Wolong Lake and the ancient city of Qizhou into a one-day itinerary with excellent value. The history of Baota Temple dates back to the reign of Liao Taizu. It was built alongside Qizhou City between 922 and 926 AD and is the northernmost surviving Liao dynasty brick pagoda with dense eaves in Liaoning. After the Liao dynasty, the temple experienced cycles of decline and revival. During the Qing dynasty’s Xianfeng era, it was extensively expanded to form three courtyards, including bell and drum towers and four main halls. The temple fair was once famous for its incense and crowds. Over time, most of the ancient halls were destroyed. Today, a newly built temple stands beside the ancient pagoda. The remaining ancient spirit wall and old stone lions stand quietly, complemented by the 30-meter-tall thirteen-story octagonal dense-eaved pagoda, creating a strong sense of history. The main attraction is the Baota Temple pagoda, a provincially protected cultural relic. The entire ancient pagoda is built solidly with blue bricks. Each of its eight sides features Buddha niches with brick carvings of seated Buddhas, flying apsaras, and attendant figures, all well preserved. Liao dynasty sculptures are simple yet powerful, with clear, strong lines that have withstood a thousand years of weathering. The base circumference exceeds 30 meters, with layered eaves arranged in staggered corners. Standing beneath and looking up, you can directly appreciate the advanced construction techniques of Liao architecture. To the east lies the Liao River channel. The open plain paired with the rustic brick pagoda offers a wide view. Photos can be taken without avoiding crowds, easily capturing vintage cultural scenes. The newly built temple complex is quiet and serene. Ancient trees with lush branches fill the courtyard, which is tidy and clean. Few worshippers visit, so it lacks the noise of urban temples. There is a prayer area where visitors can voluntarily light incense and pay respects. Walking under the corridors, you can hear birdsong in the woods, making it ideal for relaxation and reflection. About 100 meters east of the temple is the rammed earth ruins of Qizhou ancient city. The Liao dynasty city outline is intact, with remaining city walls over 2 meters high. Ancient pottery shards are scattered throughout the farmland inside the city. After visiting the temple, it’s convenient to explore the ancient city ruins, unlocking a dual experience of Liao dynasty city and pagoda relics with great educational value. Here is a travel plan for you. Self-driving is the best option. From downtown Shenyang, take the Shenkang Expressway, exit at Kangping toll station, then drive 20 minutes to reach the site. The whole trip takes about 1.5 hours. There is a free open-air parking lot at the temple entrance, so parking is hassle-free. For public transport, take a bus from Shenyang Long-distance Bus Terminal to Kangping city bus station, then transfer to a township bus to Haoguantun Town. After arriving, it’s recommended to take a taxi for 3 kilometers to Xiaotazi Village. Township buses run infrequently, so without a car, the trip will take much longer. Self-driving is highly recommended. Two well-established routes are suggested. One-day self-driving short route: depart Shenyang → Kangping Wolong Lake wetland (lake and migratory bird watching) → Kangping Museum → Baota Temple + Qizhou ancient city ruins → return, combining natural ecology and cultural relics. Two-day leisure route: day one at Wolong Lake with overnight stay in Kangping city; day two visiting Baota Temple and Xiaotazi Liao River ancient ferry port for an in-depth tour of northern Liaoning countryside. Nearby rural inns offer authentic northern Liaoning dishes like braised Liao River fish, homemade blood sausage, and mixed grain pancakes, all affordable and delicious, with about US$7 per person for a full meal. Finally, some tested tips to avoid pitfalls. First, there are no shops around the pagoda, so bring your own drinking water and snacks before entering the mountain. Second, the ancient city ruins have many farmland dirt roads with overgrown weeds in spring, summer, and fall. Wear slip-resistant flat shoes and bring insect repellent due to mosquitoes. Third, keep quiet in the religious area, avoid photographing Buddha statues inside halls, and respect temple etiquette. Fourth, spring and fall are the best seasons to visit. Spring offers fresh green fields, and fall’s golden landscape beautifully complements the ancient pagoda. Winter is windy on the plains, so dress warmly. Fifth, there is no professional guide at the ruins, so it’s recommended to research Liao Qizhou history in advance for a better experience. Among the many popular tourist spots in Liaoning, Baota Temple preserves a rare, authentic ancient charm. It has no refined commercial packaging, telling the stories of the Liao and Jin dynasties through its millennium-old pagoda and ruined ancient city. If you’re tired of crowded popular attractions, want to quietly explore northeastern Liao dynasty history, or plan a short self-driving trip around Shenyang, this ancient temple hidden in the northern Liaoning plains is definitely worth a special visit. Free admission and a relaxed pace allow you to both climb high and reflect on history, as well as unwind. It’s a rare cultural treasure destination near Shenyang.

Who says Northeast China is only worth visiting in winter? The average temperature in Shenyang in July is just 22–23 degrees. I spent two days at Qipanshan and didn’t turn on the air conditioning once. At night, I even needed a light blanket 😂 This is what true summer relief feels like. First, why choose Qipanshan— 🏔️ It’s a branch of Changbai Mountain’s Hadaling range, with Qipanshan, Huishan, and Dayangshan mountains facing each other, connected by Pu River and Xiuhu Lake. The scenic area is rated 4A, with an average summer temperature around 22 degrees. When you take a painted boat tour on Xiuhu Lake, the breeze brings a refreshing chill that will make friends from the south cry😭 🔍 How to enjoy Qipanshan? 🎯 Xiuhu lake boat tour | must-do The painted boat ticket is affordable, and the full lake loop takes about 40 minutes. The water is clear and green, with lush mountains on both sides. The guide will tell the legend of Lü Dongbin and Tieguai Li playing chess here—the giant rock chessboard on the mountaintop is the “proof” 😏 It’s best to board around 9 or 10 AM when the light is perfect and the water sparkles gold—every photo looks great. 🎯 Hiking trail | oxygen-rich lung cleanse Qipanshan’s main peak isn’t high, so even those with average fitness can easily reach the top. Towering trees line both sides of the trail, with an abundance of negative oxygen ions. After the hike, you’ll feel like your lungs have been thoroughly refreshed. There’s a viewing platform at the summit—when you overlook the full view of Xiuhu Lake, all the sweat from climbing is worth it 💪 🎯 Guandong film city | immersive experience Located within the Qipanshan scenic area, it recreates the old Shenyang streets from the Republic of China era. Gray brick courtyard houses, old brand signs, trams… put on a qipao and stroll around, and your social media friends will think you’ve time-traveled 📷 Tickets are sold separately. Plan to spend two hours exploring at a relaxed pace. 🌿 The botanical garden is also worth a day trip Shenyang Botanical Garden is not far from Qipanshan, with summer temperatures between 24 and 28 degrees and lush greenery everywhere. From June to August, the International Flower Border Festival is in full swing, with clusters of lilies, crabapples, and lotuses blooming 🌸 The greenhouse exhibits rare plants, making it a perfect spot for families with kids. ⚠️ Key highlight—there’s a “Muguang forest magical night” night tour❗️ Lights shine through the trees and mist drifts around, like stepping into a fairy world. Check the schedule in advance as it’s very popular during summer. 🏡 Where to stay? 📍 The guesthouse is on a hillside less than 1 km outside the east gate of Qipanshan Scenic Area, just a 5-minute drive from Xiuhu Lake pier. It’s away from the main road noise, surrounded by pine forests. 📍 Two walls of floor-to-ceiling glass face the valley. In the morning, open the curtains to endless greenery. When the mist rolls in, it feels like a fairyland 🌄 The balcony faces southeast, letting sunrise light pour right into the bed—perfect for watching the sunrise while lying down. 📍 The balcony is furnished with a wooden tea table and rattan lounge chair 🍵 Brew a pot of tea at dusk, listen to the pine waves and breeze, and watch the sunset reflecting on Xiuhu Lake. This kind of relaxation can’t be bought in the city no matter how much you spend ✨ 🌊 More than just Qipanshan! Summer escapes around Shenyang 🔹 Wolong Lake Scenic Area | Liaoning’s largest plain freshwater lake, with summer temps of 22–25 degrees. The lake breeze and perfect humidity make cycling around the lake super comfortable. 🔹 Northeast Asia cloud grassland | Shenyang’s version of Altay, with high elevation and wide-open views. Spread a picnic blanket on the grass and lie down all afternoon. 🔹 Liaohe Magpie Bay camping park | Shenyang’s only Liaohe riverbank campsite, with river cliffs, grasslands, and beaches all in one spot. Stunning at dusk. 📋 Travel tips 🚗 Driving: It takes about 40 minutes from downtown Shenyang to Qipanshan. Navigate to “Qipanshan Scenic Area.” There’s parking inside, capped at 20 yuan per day. 🚌 Public transport: There’s a tourist shuttle from the city center directly to Qipanshan. This summer, the tourism hub launched 16 discount routes. The “Lake mountain sightseeing + film city time” line combines Qipanshan and Guandong film city, including tickets and transport, offering great value 👍 🚇 Subway: The east section of Line 3 opened at the end of June. It doesn’t go directly to Qipanshan, but transferring to a shuttle bus at Sanhao Street or Industrial Exhibition Hall stations is much easier. 🧴 Sunscreen: It’s cool but UV rays are strong. Don’t forget sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. 🦟 Insect repellent: The mountain area has lots of plants. Bring mosquito repellent bracelets or spray—tested and effective. ⏰ Best itinerary: Day 1 Qipanshan + Xiuhu Lake + Guandong film city, Day 2 Botanical Garden + night tour, Day 3 choose either Wolong Lake or cloud grassland. Three days is just right—relaxed and not rushed. 💰 Cost reference Qipanshan scenic area tickets are affordable; Xiuhu Lake boat tickets are extra. Botanical garden tickets cost a few dozen yuan. Overall, the three-day trip costs under 1,000 yuan per person (excluding major transport). Prices in Northeast China are really budget-friendly 🥹 Finally, a heartfelt note: Shenyang in summer is a seriously underrated treasure destination. With a comfortable 22–23 degree temperature, world-class cultural heritage, hearty Northeastern cuisine for just a few dozen yuan per person, and natural oxygen bars like Qipanshan… I won’t say more—I’m already planning my second visit 🫶

Want to escape the city noise on the weekend without traveling far? Just a 1.5-hour drive from Shenyang, you can reach Kangping Wolong Lake, the largest freshwater plain lake in Liaoning. Known as the "Beihai of Shenyang," this wetland lake is open to the public for free and is a hidden gem for short self-drive trips, photography, and family leisure. Today, we bring you a complete hands-on experience. Wolong Lake covers a vast water area, with reed wetlands stretching for dozens of miles, preserving the original natural landscape. The scenic area offers different views in each season and a variety of activities. Spring is the migratory bird season, with tens of thousands of swans and white cranes resting here. Early in the morning, climb the Longbei Mountain viewing platform to see flocks of birds flying over the lake—a breathtaking scene of waves of birds in the sky, the most anticipated moment of the year for photography enthusiasts. In midsummer, the lake area is especially cool, with thousands of acres of lotus flowers quietly blooming and vast fields of sunflowers blooming around Kangqiao. Stroll along the wooden boardwalk around the lake, enjoy the moist lake breeze, or take a boat ride into the reed marshes to escape the city’s summer heat. The flat lawns by the shore are perfect for camping and picnics, making it a relaxing spot for the whole family by the water. At dusk, the sunset spreads across the lake, golden waves ripple with the water, and every snapshot is a mood-filled sunset masterpiece. Autumn at Wolong Lake is even more tranquil, with the grasses and trees turning golden and migratory birds passing through again. Without the crowds, drive along the lakeside road, with vast waters on one side and open fields on the other. Stop and go at your leisure to enjoy a slow-paced journey. In winter, the lake freezes completely, and the annual Winter Fishing Festival kicks off with lively celebrations. The lake worship ceremony is full of Northeast folk customs, the ice fishing scenes are spectacular, and you can try ice carts and snowmobiles while tasting freshly caught mixed fish hotpot, fully enjoying the fun of a Northeast winter trip. The entire scenic area has an easy-to-follow travel route. The first choice is a self-drive around the lake, stopping at three main spots: the New Pier, Wolong Tower, and Longbei Mountain. Climb Wolong Tower for a panoramic view of the entire lake area; the waterside platform on the west bank offers a wide view, perfect for birdwatching and sunset photography. Nearby is the ancient Qizhou City Liao-Jin ruins, combining natural scenery with historical culture, making a perfect one-day itinerary. Travel facilities are especially friendly: the scenic area is free to enter, parking is spacious and free, and self-driving is hassle-free. Be sure to try the Wolong Lake fish feast, as the lake water is rich in strontium, making the wild fish and shrimp tender and fresh. The iron pot stewed mixed fish is flavorful, paired with an authentic Kangping lamb soup, making your trip feel truly satisfying. Accommodation can be chosen in Kangping County, which offers great value, or you can make a day trip back to Shenyang. Travel Tips 🚗 Transportation: Take the Shenkang Expressway from Shenyang, exit at Kangping, about 1.5 hours with good road conditions. ⏰ Best Time: Watch the sunset around 6 PM in spring and summer for evening glow; observe migratory birds from 6-8 AM in spring and autumn. 🧥 There is a big temperature difference between day and night by the lake, so even in midsummer, bring a light jacket for the evening. Avoid crowded trendy spots and embrace the vast lake views at Wolong Lake. Watch birds in spring, enjoy flower seas in summer, admire the calm lake in autumn, and witness winter fishing in winter. Each season offers a unique landscape, making it a must-visit short self-drive destination near Liaozhong. (Word count: 986)

Discovered a divine hidden spot in Haoguantun Town, Xiaotazi Village, Kangping, Liaoning! This quiet village with just a few dozen households hides the stunning culture and ecological secrets of the Liao Dynasty, truly a "treasure trove" of Northeast rural areas. It's an off-the-beaten-path place with no risk of disappointment, perfect for a cozy winter treasure hunt~ The village entrance archway immediately gives a sense of ceremony. The moment you turn from the national highway onto the country road, it feels like stepping into another time and space. The tourism resources here are top-notch: both the Qizhou City Ruins and Baota Temple Pagoda are listed as provincial-level cultural heritage sites, and every step you take is on millennia-old history. Qizhou City has a significant background. Originally named Tanzhou Miyun County, later renamed Qizhou Qingyun County, it was built during the reign of Liao Taizu Tianzan and Tianxian (922-926 AD). It flourished through the Liao and Jin dynasties and was only abandoned in the Ming Dynasty. Just 200 meters east of the city lies the rushing Liao River. Standing on the ruins and looking afar, you can almost hear the clatter of carriages and horses from a thousand years ago. The Baota Temple Pagoda, built at the same time as Qizhou City, is a living fossil of history. Known as Wufeng Pagoda in the Ming Dynasty and renamed Baota in the Qing Dynasty, it once stood above Kangping County’s largest temple—Baota Temple. Although now only the spirit wall, stone lions, flagpoles, and other ruins remain, these remnants still evoke the temple’s once flourishing incense offerings. Even more delightful, the village is surrounded by the national-level Liaohe Wetland Park, offering unparalleled ecological scenery. After exploring the ancient sites, you can head to the wetlands for fresh air, healing both body and mind. The village’s style is uniquely charming. Every household along the street has uniform white walls and blue tiles, with mysterious Khitan script written on the walls. Demonstration plaques hang at courtyard entrances, and every step reveals the rich beauty of a Northeast Chinese countryside village. Every photo you take is picturesque. Winter treasure hunting in Xiaotazi Village is not easy, so quickly save this off-the-beaten-path guide. If you love tranquility and history, this is the perfect spot for you!

Shenyang's northernmost "natural oxygen bar"! Kangping Ci'en Temple Forest Park is free to enter, with a two-day one-night trip costing less than 200 yuan per person—perfect for summer cooling and family outings! Can you believe it? In Kangping County, the northernmost part of Liaoning, there is a hidden treasure forest overlooked by 99% of Shenyang residents—Ci'en Temple Forest Park! There are no entrance fees (free all year round), no commercial noise, only tens of thousands of pine trees, a clear reservoir, and the ruins of an ancient temple. What was thought to be a "wild mountain and old temple" turned out to be stunning on the first visit: you can camp, fish, boat, barbecue, and even stay in a Zen-style courtyard! Today, we break down the real cost for two days and one night, less than 200 yuan per person, making it easy and stress-free for the whole family! Day 1: Self-driving departure + lake loop hiking + forest camping, about 130 yuan per person It is recommended to leave Shenyang at 8 a.m., navigate to "Kangping Ci'en Temple Forest Park," take the G25 Changshen Expressway to Provincial Road 303, about a 2-hour drive. Fuel and toll fees average 60 yuan per person. The scenery changes along the way, with city skyscrapers disappearing and replaced by vast farmland and wind turbines. Upon arrival, you will see a rippling artificial lake—the Wolong Lake tributary runs through the park, surrounded by dense pine forests, with air as fresh as if your lungs were just cleansed. The park is currently managed as a public welfare site, with no gates, no entrance fees, and no time limits, truly "open to visitors." Bringing your own lunch is the most economical! We recommend picnicking by the wooden boardwalk by the lake: instant noodles + sausage + fruit + thermos of hot tea, all for about 30 yuan per person. There is a small shop near the village entrance selling bottled water for 2 yuan and drinks for 5 yuan, very affordable. You can also choose simple stir-fry dishes at the park’s farmhouse restaurants, about 40 yuan per person. In the afternoon, start a lake loop hike or cycling (you can bring your own bike). The full route is about 8 kilometers, with birdwatching platforms, ancient pagoda ruins, a thousand-year-old elm tree, and Qing Dynasty stone inscriptions along the way. Kids can collect pine cones, feed koi fish, and watch water birds take flight, while adults stroll and chat under the shade—extremely pleasant. In the evening, set up a tent in designated camping areas (free) or rent a simple wooden cabin in the park (60 yuan per person including basic bedding). Bringing your own barbecue grill is the most cost-effective; buy some lamb skewers, corn, and potatoes to grill, about 30 yuan per person for a satisfying meal. When night falls, look up to see a sky full of stars; the quiet away from light pollution is deeply relaxing. Day 2: Morning mist boating + ancient temple visit + return trip, about 60 yuan per person Wake up at 5:30 a.m., when mist rises over the lake like a fairyland. Rent a small boat for 20 yuan (can share a boat), row to the lake center, watch egrets skim the water, and take a series of ink painting-like photos. Then visit the Ci'en Temple ruins—according to county records, the temple was built in the Tang Dynasty and was a famous Buddhist site in northern Liao. Although only foundations and broken steles remain, the memory of incense offerings lives on. Locals often come to worship during festivals, creating a quiet and solemn atmosphere. In the morning, you can also try fishing (bring your own gear for free), explore the forest maze, or visit the children's slide area. Return before noon and pick up some Kangping specialties on the way: sweet potato chips 15 yuan per jin, millet 20 yuan per bag, pure honey 50 yuan per bottle—green, healthy, and affordable. Cost overview: Transportation 60 yuan + meals 70 yuan + accommodation 60 yuan (camping can reduce to 0) + boat and miscellaneous fees ≈ 190 yuan per person (can be compressed to under 150 yuan) This is not a trendy check-in spot but a true ecological secret. Escape the summer heat on weekends, come to Ci'en Temple Forest Park to listen to the wind, watch the water, and daydream—that’s the rhythm life should have.
