The street itself isn't huge, but the Showa atmosphere is so authentic, making it a fantastic spot for photos! Who understands! Picking the right accommodation when traveling to Nagoya with kids is really important. Our 5 days and 4 nights trip was not tiring at all. The kids got to burn off energy every day, and they fell asleep as soon as they hit the bed at night. This is what a vacation feels like for a tired mom. You must book Ghibli Park in advance. We booked the afternoon session, which was much less crowded. The Catbus, Totoro Bus, and Kiki’s Delivery Service bakery were so authentic that the kids didn’t want to leave once inside. Nagoya City Science Museum was a pleasant surprise. It has the world’s largest planetarium dome, and lying down to watch the stars was so soothing. The extreme cold lab lets you experience minus 30 degrees Celsius. The kids wore three layers but still shivered and stomped their feet. Afterward, they said they never want to go to the North Pole again. The Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology was also very interesting. You can try operating a loom and there’s a children’s driving simulation area. The kids drove little cars crashing everywhere and played for an hour without wanting to leave. We visited the SCMaglev and Railway Park twice because the first time wasn’t enough. The Shinkansen driving experience was incredibly realistic, and there were many train models to see. You must buy the limited edition railway bento box—it’s super cute, and the kids even ate an extra bowl of rice. Inuyama Castle is also recommended. Climbing up offers a great view of the Kiso River, and the old street’s gohei mochi (rice cake) is delicious—sweet and chewy. When traveling with kids, be sure to bring a stroller. Although Nagoya’s roads are very flat, kids still get tired after walking for a long time. We suggest visiting 2-3 attractions per day, not packing the schedule too full. Return to the hotel for a rest at noon, then head out again in the afternoon. During my trip to Nagoya, I visited Inuyama Castle (also known as Hakutei Castle, the oldest existing castle tower), one of Japan's five great castles. After visiting, I felt it was well worth the price! First, I highly recommend buying the Inuyama Castle Town Combo Ticket (1,630 yen), which includes train tickets, Inuyama Castle admission, and merchant vouchers all in one package! Take the Meitetsu Inuyama Line (from Nagoya Station towards Shin-Unuma) to Inuyama Station. The waiting platform is Meitetsu Nagoya Station Platform 1, marked with a green box. The journey takes about 30 minutes. After exiting Inuyama Station, walk straight for about 800 meters in front of the station. On your right, you'll see a retro-style street – that's Inuyama Castle Town! The shops on both sides have a strong Edo-era feel. There are also many snacks and desserts along the way. >< You need to take off your shoes before entering Inuyama Castle. Staff will provide a plastic bag for your shoes; please keep them with you. Upon entering, the first set of stairs left me speechless... The incline is incredibly steep! Please walk carefully, one step at a time! As expected of one of Japan's five great castles, the interior showcases original architecture and traditional Japanese woodwork. The second through fourth sets of stairs are equally steep, so please be careful and consider your physical condition. At the top, you can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of Inuyama City! Leaving Inuyama Castle, you can visit the nearby Haritsugi Shrine, and then walk back to Inuyama Station along the street. Getting to Inuyama Castle from Nagoya, Japan, is a total breeze. After hopping off the train, I followed the map straight to the entrance. I visited during the off-season, so the place was practically empty—which really allowed me to fully enjoy the experience. I highly recommend touring the inside of the castle. Sure, castles are everywhere in Japan, and you might have castle fatigue, thinking they all look the same. I totally get it—it's like getting burned out on churches after traveling around Europe. But since you've made it all the way here, why not check it out? Inuyama Castle is overflowing with traditional Japanese vibes. Slipping into a kimono for a photoshoot here is an absolute delight. (I did my own shoot—gorgeous scenery and no crowds!) I'd suggest visiting in mid-to-late May. The crowds are thinner, and the summer heat hasn't quite kicked in yet. Transportation: Take the train from Nagoya to Inuyama. From the station, it's just a 15 to 20-minute walk. It's super easy to find, so don't worry—it's completely hassle-free for solo travelers, too.

Museum Meiji-mura is a classic must-visit attraction just outside Nagoya. As Japan's largest open-air architectural museum, the entire park feels like a journey back in time to the Meiji era. Located in Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture, Meiji Mura is easily accessible via the Meitetsu train and a short bus ride. Ticket Prices Adults: 2,500 yen; High school students: 1,500 yen; Junior high and elementary school students: 700 yen. Preschoolers and visitors born in the Meiji era enjoy free admission. Old Imperial Hotel: The Main Entrance Hall and Lobby of the Imperial Hotel, crafted by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright, features stunning geometric designs and is one of the most iconic landmarks in Meiji Mura. Steam Locomotives & Streetcars: You can actually take a ride on historical steam locomotives and antique streetcars inside the park. It's a fully immersive experience, not just a visual one. The park is massive, covering approximately 1 million square meters, so we highly recommend setting aside half a day to a full day for your visit.

After taking the Meitetsu train to Inuyama-Yuen Station, you can stroll through the castle town, wandering along ancient streets filled with the charm of the Edo period and savoring delicious local food. The Inuyama Castle Keep is the oldest existing castle keep in Japan. Additionally, you can visit nearby attractions such as Sanko Inari Shrine⛩️ and Haritsuna Shrine⛩️. Some people say that the 'One Day, Two Castles' itinerary feels a bit rushed, but personally, I think it's just right. Based on the schedule, finishing the Inuyama visit will likely coincide with sunset, making it perfect to head back to the city for dinner.

The most memorable moment of my Nagoya trip was definitely my time in Inuyama! Purchasing the Inuyama Pass at the Nagoya Station Information Center made the trip so convenient! The walk wasn’t too far, and I enjoyed buying snacks along the way, which made the experience even better! The area was so peaceful, and there weren’t too many tourists, which made it even more enjoyable! With the Inuyama Pass, you also receive an admission ticket to Inuyama Castle, so make sure to bring it with you when you head up. The stairs inside the castle were steeper than expected, so it was a bit challenging! But once you reach the top, the view is absolutely stunning, so keep going and enjoy the reward. Just a 30-minute train ride from Nagoya, I arrived at Inuyama City by the Kiso River. First, I visited Inuyama Castle, one of Japan's oldest surviving castles, with its wooden structure preserving the charm of the Muromachi period. Standing on the top floor of the castle tower, I enjoyed a panoramic view of the Kiso River and surrounding mountains, with a gentle breeze bringing history and nature to life. After descending, I strolled through Inuyama Castle Town. The old street is lined with quaint shops and wagashi (Japanese sweets) stores housed in renovated townhouses, creating a relaxed and nostalgic atmosphere. Next, I headed to the vibrant Sanko Inari Shrine, famous for its rows of striking red torii gates. Nearby, Haritsuna Shrine stands as a guardian of the ancient castle's legacy. For a perfect itinerary, visit the castle in the morning, then explore the old town and shrines in the afternoon. 📍Travel Introduction Nagoya Trip [Gero-Takayama-Inuyama-Nagoya City] Inuyama, perhaps because it's close to downtown Nagoya, has a distinctly urban feel compared to Gero and Takayama. Inuyama Castle Town is slightly smaller or similar in size to Takayama Shopping Street, and has more restaurants along the street, so I recommend skipping breakfast and leaving early to enjoy some street food!!👍🏻👍🏻 🚇Transportation It took about two hours by car from Takayama to Inuyama. 📷Photo Spots Inuyama Castle is a beautiful place to take photos! On the fourth and final day of my 3-night, 4-day trip to Nagoya, I planned to conclude the journey with a "KAKKOII Afternoon Tea" at the hotel where I stayed on the third night. This afternoon tea was a hidden gem that I discovered while browsing the hotel's restaurant section on their official website. When planning my trips, I always research the hotel's facilities, room conditions, views, and breakfast menus in advance before making a final decision. This time, while exploring the restaurant options, I found out about the afternoon tea, which is limited to three groups per day and requires a reservation in advance. Reservations can only be made through the official website, and the tea is available for a minimum of two people. For this trip, I enjoyed afternoon tea at three different locations, all booked for two people. The time slot for this tea was fixed from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. After having breakfast in the morning, I checked out, left my luggage at the hotel, and followed a triangular itinerary covering Inuyama, Komaki, Iwakura, and back to Inuyama. Thanks to the hotel staff's kindness, I was able to enjoy a complimentary visit to Urakuen before heading to the restaurant at the scheduled time. The table prepared for us was on the opposite side of where we had breakfast. The afternoon tea was served on two trays, one for each person, with a single strawberry stand shared between us. The presentation of the afternoon tea, including an illustrated print of the menu, was impressive. After a morning walk, I started with an iced coffee and welcomed the KAKKOII Afternoon Tea. The weather was clear, and the view of Inuyama Castle from the window was majestic. While chatting with the server, I mentioned a newly opened afternoon tea spot at a Nagoya hotel and even showed them photos of the Nagoya Castle view from that location. I suggested that the terrace here might offer an even more stunning view than Nagoya's, and expressed my desire to step outside. I also shared that I had visited over 200 afternoon tea spots in Japan. Shortly after, the restaurant's general manager accompanied the server and moved one of the trays and the strawberry stand to an outdoor terrace table for us. They even helped us take beautiful photos, allowing us to enjoy a wonderful time with a direct view of the National Treasure Inuyama Castle. Afterward, we returned indoors. To my surprise, the indoor table had been tidied up. 🤔 The staff brought back the strawberry stand and informed us that the desserts were being kept refrigerated, the scones were freshly baked, and the savory items were being warmed up for us to enjoy. This thoughtful hospitality added a special touch, and we began a delightful second round of afternoon tea indoors. I wrote a heartfelt message in Korean on the back of the illustrated menu postcard for the server, who was learning Korean. The stay, breakfast, and service at this hotel were all excellent, and choosing to have afternoon tea here was a great decision. When I went to retrieve my luggage from the reception, the staff member who had arranged the Urakuen visit greeted me warmly and asked how the afternoon tea was. I told them it was a wonderful experience and thanked them for their help with Urakuen. 🧳 They handed me my bag and offered a high-five, which I gladly returned. Also known as "Hakutei Castle," Inuyama Castle is located in Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Built in 1537 by Oda Nobuyasu, the uncle of Oda Nobunaga, its existing main keep is the oldest in Japan and one of the five main keeps designated as National Treasures of Japan. From the top of the keep, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Kiso River and the Nōbi Plain (I remember taking photos, but I can't seem to find them at the moment 😮💨). This time, I traveled alone. I bought the "Inuyama Castle Town" package ticket (which includes train and admission tickets) in Nagoya and made my way here. In the castle town area, you can admire historic wooden buildings, stroll through the alleys, and soak in the old-town atmosphere and local charm. Following the signs up to the castle, I found the area pleasantly quiet with few visitors. There was no noise, and I didn't have to wait in line to take photos, making for a very leisurely experience.
