Things I Learnt the Hard Way on My Scottish Highlands Road Trip 🐂🏴
The Highlands taught me one thing quickly: don’t over-plan Scotland. 😂
A few things I’d do differently next time:
🌧️ Don’t wait for perfect weather - the mist and rain actually made some views better.
🚗 Leave extra driving time - you’ll want to stop constantly for viewpoints, lochs, sheep… and obviously Highland cows 🐂
🧥 Bring a proper waterproof - Scottish weather changes FAST.
📍 Don’t only chase famous spots - some of my favourite moments were completely unplanned roadside stops.
🐂 See Highland cows responsibly - use a safe parking spot, keep your distance and don’t enter fields just for a photo.
⏰ Plan fewer stops, enjoy them longer. That’s probably the biggest thing I’d change.
The Scottish Highlands aren’t just about where you’re going - the road trip itself is the experience.
Save this for your Scotland trip 🏴

Fantastic Tour with an Incredible Guide
Absolutely fantastic tour, and a big thank you to our amazing guide, Anne! Anne was deeply knowledgeable, energetic, warm, and friendly. Right from the start, she captivated us with fascinating facts, engaging stories, and charming details about Scotland, making the experience all the more special. She even played songs during the ride, adding a joyful and fun atmosphere on the bus.
What stood out most was Anne herself. Her enthusiasm, positivity, radiant smile, and cheerful laughter truly made a difference. It was clear how much she loves Scotland and how passionate she is about sharing it with others. We gained so much insight, shared plenty of laughs, and had a truly wonderful day.
Anne was among the best guides I’ve ever had, and I’m incredibly grateful for her making our Highland adventure so unforgettable. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything, Anne! You were absolutely spectacular. ❤️

Unforgettable Highland Cow Encounter
An amazing experience! The cows are so well cared for, and the staff are incredibly nice, friendly, and knowledgeable. I learned so much about Highland cows today, and getting to meet them up close, feeding and brushing them, truly made for the best Sunday morning ever. It completely made my day. Following that with afternoon tea was fantastic—the food was absolutely amazing. Will I be going back? 110% yes! I highly recommend this to anyone. This is a must-do at a place that truly prioritizes the animals—I absolutely loved it.

Unforgettable VIP Animal Experience
If you're debating whether to book the VIP experience, just go for it. Right from our arrival, the team made us feel incredibly welcome, but the true highlight was the intimate interaction with the animals. Brushing and hand-feeding the cows felt like a dream come true.
Our guides were outstanding—warm, approachable, and full of knowledge. I thought I knew a bit about Highland cattle beforehand, but we left with a wealth of new insights about their history, behavior, and care. I was also amazed by the variety of cows on-site. Seeing the range of colors, ages, and unique personalities within the herd made the tour truly captivating.
A delightful surprise for me was the goats. They were hilarious, super friendly, and unbelievably adorable.
We ended the experience with afternoon tea. A quick note: it's mostly sweet treats, so keep that in mind if you prefer savory options!

Lovely Highland Cow Experience Perfect for All Ages
We had a wonderful time as part of my hen party yesterday. It was great to find a highland cow experience suitable for all age groups. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The elderly gentleman was particularly chatty and funny! We brought our own food along and purchased some buckets (£1) for the kids to use. The lady and gentleman made sure we were safe while chatting with us about the cows.
The afternoon teas were enjoyable and served in beautifully decorated domes within the barn. We even got boxes to take the extras home. There was a charming little shop filled with highland cow-themed gifts, which was a lovely touch before leaving.
Getting there was easy thanks to clear directions and road signage. There was plenty of parking and it was obvious where to go upon arrival. All in all, we had an amazing time – thank you!

Ardnamurchan: Exploring Scotland’s Wild Western Edge 🌊🏔️
#bucketlistdestinations
Visiting the Ardnamurchan Peninsula felt like entering one of the wildest corners of Scotland. I drove through narrow roads surrounded by mountains, forests, lochs, and rugged countryside before reaching the dramatic coastline. The further I explored, the more remote everything seemed. I stopped at several viewpoints to watch the waves, photograph the rocky shore, and take in the huge Highland landscapes around me. What impressed me most was the sense of isolation—the peninsula felt far away from the busy tourist routes. Every turn seemed to reveal another spectacular view, making the journey itself part of the adventure. Ardnamurchan was exactly the kind of wild escape I look for in #bucketlistdestinations.

A Hidden Gem with Highland Cows
What an amazing experience! We joined the Ultimate Highland Cow Experience with Richard and his dog. We had the chance to brush, pet, and feed Highland cows and Dexters. Richard was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, adding a personal touch as someone who genuinely loves his job, making the visit relaxed and far from formal or stiff. We left with plenty of memories, photos, some posing cows, and curious calves! This hidden gem is absolutely worth the cost. Thanks to Richard and the team for an unforgettable birthday treat for my wife.

Beyond the ordinary whisky tasting
Edinburgh has no shortage of whisky experiences. But there is a difference between tasting whisky and being invited into its world.
Imagine arriving in Edinburgh’s New Town as dusk settles over the Georgian streets. A discreet chauffeur drops you at a private townhouse. Inside, the atmosphere is intimate: candlelight, dark wood, leather, crystal and the quiet anticipation of something exceptional.
There is no crowded tasting room. No rushed schedule. No tourist itinerary.
Tonight, the whisky is entirely yours.
The private tasting
Your personal whisky expert introduces a carefully curated selection of exceptional Scotch — rare single malts, cask-strength expressions and distinctive bottles chosen specifically for your group.
Each dram has a story.
A whisky matured for decades in oak. A single cask with only a limited number of bottles. A powerful Highland malt followed by something remarkably delicate.
The experience is slow by design.
You taste. You discuss. You discover.
And between each dram, Scotland reveals another layer of itself.
Whisky, elevated
The evening continues with refined Scottish cuisine designed to complement the character of each whisky.
Think beautifully presented seasonal produce, artisan cheeses, smoked delicacies and sophisticated canapés — paired not simply by flavour, but by texture, aroma and character.
This isn’t dinner with whisky on the side.
The whisky is the centre of the evening.
The moment that stays with you
Perhaps it is the first pour from a rare cask.
Perhaps it is discovering a whisky you have never tasted before.
Or perhaps it is simply sitting in an elegant Edinburgh townhouse, surrounded by people you care about, while an expert pours something extraordinary into a crystal glass.
That is the real luxury.

Road Trip to the Highlands.
The Scottish Highlands… a land straight out of a movie.
One of the most memorable road trips is driving up to the Scottish Highlands. 🏴
The scenery gradually shifts from a city packed with historic buildings and bustling crowds to narrow roads winding through mountains, lochs, and vast meadows stretching as far as the eye can see.
You barely need a set itinerary along the way; just cruising around offers endless views that make you want to pull over and snap photos constantly.
Mist-shrouded peaks, deep dark lochs, endless grasslands, and flocks of sheep roaming by the roadside give the Highlands an incredibly raw and natural vibe.
There are stretches where you can drive for miles without seeing another soul—just the open road, the mountains, and pure nature right in front of you.
My absolute favorite part is the unhurried pace of the journey.
You can pull over wherever you want, and step out to take in the views whenever you feel like it.
Sometimes, just standing in silence, gazing at the mountains ahead, makes the long journey feel completely worth it.
The Scottish Highlands might not always offer bright, sunny skies, but the dramatic clouds, rolling mist, and sweeping winds are exactly what make this landscape so captivating and unique.

Fantastic Guide for a Memorable Scottish Adventure
My good friend had been raving about Rob for years after taking a walking tour in Edinburgh that I didn’t join. She later returned with her mom for a multi-day Highland trip and had an amazing experience. So when she suggested going to the Isles with Rob last year to see puffins, I immediately agreed.
We went on a 4-day, 3-night trip. Rob is incredibly personable, friendly, funny, and a fantastic tour guide (and driver!). I really enjoyed the nature activities, short walks, and hikes. He broke up the drive effectively, giving us plenty of chances to stretch, take in the scenery, and explore fascinating spots. When our boat tour to Staffa and Lunga—a key part of the trip—was canceled due to weather, Rob went above and beyond to book another boat tour for the next day and skillfully rearranged the itinerary, which couldn’t have been easy.
He also made sure the restaurants had suitable options for everyone, including a person with celiac disease and a vegan in the group. For those prone to motion sickness, he let them sit up front, ensuring a smooth experience for all. His thoughtfulness and helpfulness made the trip stress-free and enjoyable.
In short, I highly recommend Rob to anyone! It felt great that my funds went directly to him. He’s fantastic and seems like he could get along with anyone.

New hotel at Yaamava Casino
This is definitely one of the best resorts I’ve stayed at in recent years. Friendly staff, beautiful room, great service, and amazing food were great highlights of our trip. We also enjoyed the lobster buffet (available only on Wednesdays and Thursdays, reservation needed), and it is just unbelievable. We will definitely come back again!!
