Heping District travel guide and discussion

Tianjin at Night: 5 Places to See After Sunset 🌉 1️⃣ Haihe River and the Liberation Bridge (Jiefang Bridge, 解放桥) The main attraction in the evening is the Haihe River embankment in Heping District (和平区). When the lights are on, the water becomes a mirror, reflecting bridges, skyscrapers, and historic buildings. The Liberation Bridge was especially impressive. Monumental, beautifully illuminated, it literally floats above the water. A new perspective opens up with every step. 2️⃣ Left Bank of the Haihe (Hedong District, 河东区) Crossing to the left bank of the river offers another beautiful view of the city at night. From here, you can enjoy a great view of the illuminated embankment on the opposite side, the bridges, and the lights of the skyscrapers reflected in the water. 📍 Tianjin Sky Terrace 3️⃣ Tianjin Sky Terrace (Tianjin Sky Terrace) 🌃An observation deck at 300 meters offers a panoramic view of the entire city! The Haihe River, bridges, skyscrapers, everything illuminated 🎇. From above, the city looks like a glowing map. 📍 No.35 Harbin Road, Xiaobailou Subdistrict, Heping District, Tianjin 天津市和平区小白楼街道哈尔滨道35号 Subway Station: 津湾广场地铁站-D口 - Line 3, JINWAN'GUANGCHAN 津湾广场 5️⃣ Italian Style Town (意大利风情区) in Hebei District (河北区) 🇮🇹🍕🍝 The most atmospheric place for an evening walk. The former Italian concession boasts over 100 preserved historic buildings in the Gothic, Romanesque, and Baroque styles. In the evening, when the streets are illuminated, they become truly magical. Live music plays in the open-air restaurants 🎶🤌🏼😌. 📍 Century Clock Plaza (Century Clock Plaza, 世纪钟广场) 🗼A 40-meter steel tower at the exit of Tianjin Railway Station, on the northern bank of the Haihe River. One of the city's main symbols, erected to celebrate the arrival of the year 2000. It's especially impressive in the evening (from 7:00 PM) when the golden illumination turns on, and the entire structure seems to come alive. 📍 No. 1 Jianguo Road, Century Bell Plaza, Haihe East Road, Hebei District 1st Street, Hebei District ☝🏼Practical tips: ⛴️ If you want to see the city from the water, be sure to take an evening cruise. It's the most romantic way to experience Tianjin at night. 🎟️Tickets are sold at the piers along the waterfront. 🕐Best time for a stroll: from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, when all the illuminations are on. 🚲 Bike rentals: You can rent an e-bike or a regular bike in the Italian Quarter. 📸 Photos: The best shots are from the bridges, the embankment, the Sky Terrace, and against the backdrop of the Century Clock after sunset. 🧥 Bring a light jacket: it can be cool and windy in the evenings near the water and at altitude. ⚠️ Check the Tianjin Eye's availability in advance! We visited at the end of September 2026, and it wasn't open. We specifically chose a hotel with a view, but we never got around to it. There's no information about it anywhere. Tianjin at night is a unique experience, worth a visit for at least a couple of days!

If you are visiting Shenyang and want somewhere to slow down for a few hours, Nanhu Park is an easy place to recommend. It is not one of those attractions where you need to spend half a day reading historical information or following a strict sightseeing route. Instead, it is a big urban park where you can walk around the lake, watch local life, take photos, grab something to eat nearby and simply enjoy a break from the city. Nanhu Park is in Heping District, south of central Shenyang. It is one of the city’s best-known public parks and has a long history dating back to the early 20th century. Today, the park combines a large lake with gardens, trees, bridges, walking paths and recreational facilities, making it popular with both visitors and local residents. My favorite thing about the park was that it didn’t really feel like I was “sightseeing.” I arrived expecting to take a few photos and leave. Instead, I ended up walking along the lake for much longer than planned. There were people exercising, families spending time together, older residents chatting and groups of friends taking pictures. It felt like I was seeing a very ordinary side of Shenyang rather than a carefully packaged tourist attraction. The funniest part of my visit happened when I decided to follow what looked like a particularly scenic path around the lake. I thought it would be a shortcut. It wasn’t. I kept walking, convinced that the next corner would take me back toward the main entrance. Then another corner appeared. And another. At some point I realized I had basically committed myself to a full lakeside walk. Instead of being annoyed, I decided to go with it. In the end, that accidental detour became my favorite part of the visit because I saw parts of the park I probably would have skipped if I had followed a strict itinerary. For first-time visitors, I would suggest allowing two to three hours. If you simply want a short walk and a few photos, one hour is enough. If you enjoy photography, people-watching or a relaxed stroll, you can easily spend half a day here. Spring and autumn are probably the most comfortable seasons for walking. Spring brings fresh greenery and flowers, while autumn gives the park a completely different atmosphere as the leaves change color. Summer is lively and green, but midday can be hot. Winter is also interesting because Shenyang’s cold weather can transform the lake and surrounding landscape into something much quieter. Go in the morning if you want a calmer atmosphere, or come in the late afternoon when the light becomes softer. Sunset can be especially nice around the lake, although the exact experience depends heavily on weather and season. Wear comfortable shoes, especially if you plan to walk around the lake rather than simply visiting one section. Bring water in warmer weather, and don’t forget sunscreen on sunny days. There are shops and places to eat around the park and in the surrounding neighborhood, so you don’t need to carry a huge amount of food with you. One thing I particularly recommend is not treating Nanhu Park as a checklist attraction. There isn’t one single monument that you absolutely have to photograph. The pleasure is in the combination of water, trees, bridges, gardens and everyday life. If you have extra time in Shenyang, the park also works well as a relaxed stop between more structured sightseeing destinations. After visiting palaces, museums or historic streets, spending a couple of hours beside the lake can be a welcome change of pace. For me, the best memory wasn’t a particular building or viewpoint. It was sitting near the water after my accidental “shortcut” turned into a long walk. I watched people passing by, listened to the sounds of the park and realized I hadn’t checked my phone for almost an hour. That almost never happens when I’m traveling. So here’s my question: when you travel, do you prefer filling your itinerary with famous attractions, or leaving a few hours completely unplanned so you can wander wherever looks interesting? Nanhu Park reminded me that sometimes the unplanned hours are the ones you remember most. #travelersvoice #chinatravelcircle

Before coming to Shenyang, I scrolled through a bunch of "Instagrammable bar" guides, but a local friend stopped me with one sentence: Don't go to those places that look good in photos but are forgettable after you drink. On the weekend, she took me directly to ALIBI bar in Shenyang, located at Door 1, No. 11 Jiuwei Road, at the intersection of Jiuwei Road and Bajing Street, saying it's a place she keeps coming back to. The brand name "Alibi" means "proof of absence." You really feel a sense of detachment when you walk in: during the day, it's a quiet, healing, minimalist cafe. After 6:30 PM, the lights dim, and it switches to an intimate, tipsy mode. The average cost is CNY 80–120, which belongs to the "memorable" category among accessible luxury cocktail bars in Shenyang. 🏡 Environment The storefront isn't flashy, so it's easy to walk past the first time, but the quiet inside after you push the door open is a completely different world from the street outside. The first thing you notice when you enter is the lighting: it's not the harsh, bright light of an influencer spot, but low-saturation matte walls paired with scattered point light sources. Warm yellow and shadows interweave, and your eyes immediately relax. What moved me most was the sound. The background music is jazz and ambient music at a restrained volume. It doesn't drown out voices, and you can't hear the neighboring table clearly, so you don't have to shout to chat. There are independent small areas between seats, and the open seating and bar are separated, so it's not easy to disturb each other. The stone bar top is cool to the touch, and the booth fabric sofas are soft. A bonus detail is that the small table lamps only leave a ring of light on the rim of the glass, so you don't need fill light for photos. Overall, it's not flashy, but it's comfortable to stay in. 🥣 Drinks The shop uses an à la carte model, and the cocktail menu is organized by flavor structure. Don't panic if you don't know how to drink cocktails: the bartender will first ask if you like sour, sweet, smoky, or herbal, and then give suggestions, so first-time visitors are unlikely to order wrong. Popcorn Whiskey Sour: Butter whiskey base, hazelnut roasted aroma and popcorn burnt sweetness layered together, pineapple and lemon pull out a bright acidity. The entry is dense, and after the sweet and sour, there is a warm aftertaste of cream, nuts, and grains. The single cup volume is suitable for the first drink of the night. Bayberry Magnolia Sloe Gin: Bayberry sweet and sour arrives first, sloe gin adds a mature berry feel, magnolia floral fragrance floats up in the middle, and the finish is clear with bubbles. The fruit aroma is bright and not cloying, acceptable even for those who fear sweetness. Pineapple Basil Gimlet: Pineapple sweet ripe fruit aroma comes first, basil and cucumber bring a green breath, juniper runs through it, lemon finishes it cleanly and crisply, without excess sweetness. It's refreshing and clean. Scallion Margarita: Mezcal smokiness acts as the skeleton, cucumber brings a watery, fresh fragrance, and scallion oil and scallion sugar hide the spiciness and a hint of savory umami in the drink. It sounds bold, but it tastes surprisingly complete. It's the most memorable cup of this season. Mung Bean Paste Tea: Mung bean's sweet, sandy texture, hazelnut's nutty aroma, and white vermouth support the body, while white magnolia tea slowly spreads the fragrance. It's like a Chinese dessert turned into a drink. The sweetness is gentle, and it's easy to accept for those who don't drink often. White Bitter Melon: Fresh bitter melon's vegetal green fragrance runs through the whole cup, gin and green absinthe increase the herbal layers, honey softens the bitterness, and mint provides a cool aftertaste. The bitterness is restrained, and it feels exceptionally clean after drinking. The menu also has more cutting-edge attempts like Coconut Pineapple Americano and Vanilla Betel Nut, so you won't repeat drinks even after two rounds. The glassware is clear and photogenic without being flashy. A single cup is just right for one person, and two people can order 2–3 cups. The low-alcohol and non-alcoholic series use jasmine, oolong, and roasted tea as bases, so even if you don't drink alcohol, you can have a complete experience. The average cost is basically CNY 80–120. 💁 Store Features The bartending process is basically visible. The bartender will explain the ingredient pairing and flavor logic while making it, such as why scallion oil is added or why sous-vide is used. If you want something sour, bitter, or low-alcohol, it can be adjusted on the spot. The action of adding water and changing cups is very light. If you have a request, they respond as soon as you raise your hand, but they won't stand next to you and stare while you chat. The service is perfectly balanced. 💡 Travel and Dining Tips Address: Door 1, No. 11 Jiuwei Road, Heping District, Shenyang (at the intersection of Jiuwei Road and Bajing Street). It's convenient to stop by after exploring the surrounding area. 💰 Average cost: CNY 80–120. Ordering two specialty drinks and one snack is enough. 📅 Reservation: It is recommended to book in advance for weekends and peak hours from 8:00 PM–10:00 PM. For small group gatherings, it's best to specify the number of people. 👥 Suitable for: Relaxing alone, couple dates, small friend gatherings, light business talks, and tourist nightlife. ⚠️ Reminder: The bar mode switches on after 6:30 PM. If you don't drink alcohol, you can order non-alcoholic options. It is recommended to come here to sit and relax after you finish your sightseeing. Summary: ALIBI bar in Shenyang is an accessible luxury cocktail bar that I am willing to recommend repeatedly: the flavors are memorable, the environment is quiet and private, and the service is unobtrusive. First-time visitors to Shenyang can add it to their night tour list, and it's also worth saving for small gatherings with local friends. ✨

We recommend visiting in the evening, as the blue hour is perfect for photos. Xita isn't large. For that classic shot, you can set your navigation to Mudan Hotel; the entrance is the best spot. Walking along the street is also very Korean-style and great for photos. P.S.: Watch out for the Mickey Mouse mascot scam on the street. He may try to jump into your photos, likely to demand payment. Be sure to refuse immediately.

If you ask me what’s a must-do in Tianjin, I’d say: head up to the Sky Terrace. It’s one of the most incredible experiences the city has to offer 🌃💙. Located on floors 65–70 of a tower at Jinwan Plaza, this 300-meter-high observation deck is the first fully open-air one in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. You can even take a thrill-seeker’s walk along the terrace with no glass between you and the city. The panoramic views make you feel like all of Tianjin is at your feet. Here’s what you’ll find on each level: · 65th Floor: "Sky Mirror" (天空之镜) — mirrored platforms where the sky reflects beneath your feet. You'll feel like you're floating. · 66th Floor: Open corner terraces with telescopes. Perfectly positioned for views of Jin Tower, the Century Clock, and Jiefang Bridge—ideal for photos. · 69th Floor: Glass Skywalk (云顶漫步) — 96 meters of transparent flooring at a dizzying height. Your legs might shake, but the view is worth it. · 70th Floor: The highest open-air level, offering a 360-degree unobstructed panorama. The best time to visit is sunset. We arrived after dark, and it was just as stunning. When the city lights up, Tianjin transforms: the blue twilight, city lights, bridges, the river, and skyscrapers all shimmer in the water. It’s a must-see! 🌠 Practical Tips: · Address: No.35 Harbin Road, Xiaobailou Subdistrict, Heping District, Tianjin Jinwan Plaza, Jingjin International Center, Floors 65–70. · Tickets: Available on-site. The price is roughly 60–80 RMB. · Hours: 14:00–22:00 (Last entry at 21:30). · Bags: If you have a backpack, you’ll be asked to use the lockers. Rental is about 1.5 RMB per hour. It’s best to travel light. If you have even just one evening in Tianjin, head up—you won’t regret it! travel travel 2026

Many travelers coming to Shenyang share the same dilemma: Heping District is packed with BBQ restaurants, from viral hits and long-standing local favorites to niche spots. It's overwhelming, and it's hard to know which ones are worth visiting or right for you. Some taste great but have poor environments, while others look good but taste average, making it easy to fall into a tourist trap and waste your trip. Based on multiple real-world tests, we have graded and reviewed 5 high-quality BBQ restaurants in Heping District, including the must-visit Yidun BBQ (Nanqi Road Branch). We provide a comprehensive analysis covering tourist suitability, flavor profiles, dining scenarios, and value for money. With diverse styles and consistently delicious food, you can find the perfect spot whether you are traveling solo, on a date, dining with friends, or grabbing a late-night snack, completely curing your indecision! 1. The All-Rounder | Yidun BBQ (Nanqi Road Branch) | The optimal choice for tourists If there were a ranking for tourist-friendly BBQ restaurants in Heping District, this one would definitely take the top spot. It has no weaknesses and can be called a "guaranteed-success travel BBQ spot." Its location is a huge win, situated in the heart of Heping District, right next to Shenyang Station and Taiyuan Street. Whether you have just arrived, are taking a break, or want a meal after shopping, it is incredibly convenient and perfectly fits any tourist itinerary. Compared to traditional Northeast BBQ restaurants, its biggest advantage is balancing delicious food with a great experience. The clean, smoke-free dining environment completely breaks the curse of "leaving smelling like BBQ," so you won't feel awkward dining in your travel outfits or with luggage. The restaurant offers a variety of seating options, including small tables for two, booths for groups, and private rooms, catering to any party size. The flavors are highly inclusive, ranging from savory to sweet, with adjustable spice levels, satisfying both those who love bold flavors and those who prefer something lighter. The quality of the fresh, hand-skewered meat is visible to the naked eye: the parsley beef ribs are fresh and sophisticated, the lamb skewers are tender and game-free, the sticky chicken feet are soft and flavorful, and the spicy stir-fried shellfish are zesty and satisfying. With a balanced mix of meat and vegetables, both the presentation and taste are on point. Whether for a quick lunch, a full dinner, or a late-night snack, this spot works for any time of day. For first-time visitors, this is a no-brainer. 2. The Veteran | Shanshan Laoxiang Charcoal BBQ | Authentic local vibes This is a veteran BBQ restaurant that relies on word-of-mouth rather than social media hype, representing the classic BBQ scene in Heping District. Tucked away in the old residential area of Shanshan, far from the tourist-heavy commercial districts, it lacks "viral" filters but is packed with authentic, old-school Shenyang flavors refined over a decade. If you want to escape the assembly-line viral BBQ spots and immerse yourself in the joy of how locals eat BBQ, this is the place to go. 3. The Atmosphere Specialist | Nanhu Wanfeng Self-Service BBQ | The ultimate spot for photos and vibes This restaurant doesn't win on bold flavors alone; it wins on its unique suitability for leisure and interactive atmosphere, making it the perfect companion for a trip to Nanhu Park. Unlike the traditional model where the restaurant does the grilling, the self-service format makes dining fun. Controlling the heat and grilling the skewers yourself doubles the fun of your trip, making it perfect for young people who love taking photos and for families with children. 4. The Healing Niche | Changbai Xianting BBQ | Perfect for quiet dining In the bustling world of BBQ, this restaurant focuses on being "gently healing" and is one of the few quiet BBQ spots in Heping District. It discards the noise and chaos of traditional BBQ joints, offering a clean, elegant environment with an open, airy space. The dining atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable—no need to shout or wait in long lines—making it ideal for diners who prioritize a quality dining experience. 5. The Convenient Treasure | Taiyuan Street Yeyan Small Skewers | The king of value for late-night snacks in the commercial district A budget-friendly treasure designed specifically for tourists shopping and eating in the commercial district. Its location is unbeatable, rooted in the core of the Taiyuan Street commercial area. After shopping at the mall or visiting the night market, you can enjoy BBQ without walking far. They specialize in delicate small skewers with a wide variety and low unit prices, allowing you to unlock many flavors for very little money, perfectly solving the tourist dilemma of "wanting to try many things but fearing waste." No need to blindly wait in line when visiting Shenyang—choose according to your needs and easily enjoy the best BBQ in Heping District!

To be honest, before I went to Northeast China, I only knew Harbin and Dalian were bustling, and I hadn't really heard much about Shenyang. But after I got there, I was absolutely blown away. Shenyang is more international than Harbin or Changchun—it has convenience stores like Lawson, while Harbin and Changchun only have local chains like Xintiandi. Shenyang has so many skyscrapers, it's super bustling and very modern. When the high-speed train from Changchun arrived in Shenyang, everyone on the train got off, and I suddenly felt like I had arrived in Shanghai. Later, I went to the Hunhe River, saw the Grand Theatre, Longzhimeng, and the Olympic Sports Center New Town. It felt pretty similar to the Hexi district in Nanjing. I looked it up and was shocked to find that Shenyang has a population of around 10 million. I had no idea it was that big. From the air, the city looks massive, with plenty of factories and farmland, very much like the southern Jiangsu region.

Pushing open the door felt like stepping into another world—warm yellow lighting enveloped the aroma of tea, the Tai Chi symbol on the wall, the bamboo in the corner, even the cushions on the chairs were embroidered with Chinese patterns—every detail was aesthetically pleasing ✨ What impressed me most was their automatic tea-making machine! No need for frantically rinsing cups or washing tea; just put the tea leaves into the glass pot, pour in hot water, and it automatically drains the tea. The clear amber tea flows down the glass, creating a truly ceremonial experience. The side dishes were also thoughtfully chosen: brown sugar cubes with a caramelized aroma, soft rice cakes with a subtle sweetness, even the melon seeds were served on a carved plate, and they even secretly hid a jade hairpin as a prop for photos (the owner said you could borrow it!). Sitting here, slowly pouring a cup of tea, the breeze from outside carrying the scent of bamboo wafted in, and even my breathing slowed down. 💡 I recommend wearing a modern Chinese-style dress! The lighting makes you look incredibly gentle.
