Park Overview & Mission
The Harbin Siberian Tiger Park (also known as Northeast Tiger Forest Park) is the world's largest natural park for wild Siberian tigers . Located on the north bank of the Songhua River, it was established in 1996 to protect the endangered Siberian tiger, the largest felid in the world known as the "King of the Forest" . It's a comprehensive facility combining breeding, scientific research, and tourism, operating on an "using tigers to support tigers" model to fund its conservation efforts . The park is a designated National AAAA Tourist Attraction .
The park covers a vast area of 1.44 million square meters (over 355 acres) . It is home to a large and growing population of big cats, with sources citing over 700 purebred Siberian tigers and nearly 1,000 live Siberian tigers in total, sometimes referred to as the "Thousand Tiger Park" . In addition to Siberian tigers, you can see:
· White tigers, lions, and ligers
· Leopards, lynx, black pumas/jaguars
· African lions and other large felines
🚶♀️ What to See and Do
The park is divided into several areas, with over 100 purebred Siberian tigers available for visitors to see .
· Safari-Style Bus Tour: This is the main activity. Visitors board enclosed buses (either regular sightseeing buses or "exciting" steel-mesh trucks) to enter the enclosures where the tigers roam freely . You can observe the tigers up close and even feed them (purchased meat) from the safety of the vehicle .
· Walking Areas & Tiger Viewing Platform: In areas like the "Pedestrian Area" and at the "Tiger Viewing Platform," you can see tigers, lion-tiger hybrids, and other animals in more contained spaces, as well as younger, more playful cubs .
· Feed the Tigers: For an additional cost, you can buy food (like chicken, meat, or even live prey for a more graphic display of their hunting instincts during certain seasons) to feed the animals .
· Popular Science Exhibition Hall: A free museum at the entrance with educational exhibits, pictures, and samples to learn more about tigers .
· Circus City: Features animal performances (bears, lions, dogs) along with acrobatics and magic, especially enjoyable for families with children .
· Cute Tiger Paradise: A family-friendly area where you might see very young tiger cubs, ride ponies, and see other small animals .
Have a fantastic time at the park! If you are planning a full trip to Harbin, I can also help find information on nearby attractions like the Ice and Snow World or Sun Island.
