Figueres travel guide and discussion

Spain is beautiful, but I really don't recommend going in September–October❗❗ Take my advice and don't just rush into it!! Don't be fooled by the curated photo grids of "Gaudí curves + flamenco red dresses + Sagrada Família light and shadow + Andalusian white walls at sunset + La Rioja grape harvest." Spain isn't just "one Spain." It's a patchwork of southern inland ovens, Mediterranean coastal breezes, green and rainy northern regions, and central plateaus that freeze at night. September–October is a transitional period where "the south still feels like midsummer in September, the north starts getting rainy in October, pickpockets are most active after the National Day holiday, and you still have to fight for popular tickets." 🚫 Why I advise you not to rush into visiting in September–October 1️⃣ Southern Andalusia hasn't left summer behind in September Seville, Córdoba, and Granada often hit 30°C+ during the day in early September. Walking through the Alhambra, the Royal Palace, or the old Jewish quarter at noon means no shade, harsh UV rays, and sweat running into your eyes. You plan to "visit the Royal Palace in the morning, explore the old town for food at noon, and take panoramic photos in Albaicín in the afternoon," but in reality: it's too hot at noon so you hide in a café, the afternoon has backlighting + you get sunburned, and it only cools down at night when attractions are about to close. If you really want to visit Andalusia, mid-June to September is for "heat-tolerant travelers only." 2️⃣ The north and west start changing their tune in October Barcelona, Santiago, Bilbao, and Galicia see more rainy days in October. Overcast skies, sudden showers, and sea breezes make it feel several degrees colder. If you want to capture "Mediterranean blue that looks unreal + clean lines of Gaudí's facades," you'll get gray, unedited photos on cloudy days. If you want to walk the Camino de Santiago, having wet shoes and socks for 3 days is standard. 3️⃣ September isn't the low season; it's "tail-end of summer pricing" Many people think that by September, the crowds are gone and prices are lower—wrong. The first 2 weeks of September are the end of European family vacations + La Mercè Festival in Barcelona (late September) + students returning to school. You still have to queue for the Sagrada Família, Casa Milà, the Alhambra, and the Prado. Hotels are slightly softer than in August, but nowhere near "low season prices." High-speed rail, flights, and accommodation along the Camino are still expensive. 4️⃣ The siesta culture + dinner culture cut the day in half Small towns and ancient villages close from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM; churches, markets, and craft shops all shut down. Your planned "day of exploring the ancient city" actually looks like this: intense sightseeing from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, nowhere to go from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, heading out again at 5:00 PM, many small restaurants aren't open for dinner at 7:00 PM, and you don't get to eat a full meal until 10:00 PM. For those who can't adapt: sitting outside attractions in the afternoon, looking for open restaurants in alleys in the middle of the night. 5️⃣ The beach vibe starts winding down after mid-October You can still swim in the Mediterranean in September, but the water temperature drops in October. By late October, many seaside chiringuitos, island-hopping speedboats, and coastal promenade cafés start shortening their hours. If you want to photograph the "jelly-like waters of Ibiza/Mallorca/Costa Brava," don't schedule it after October 20. If you want to see the "La Rioja grape harvest," that's fine, but don't force a beach route into the same trip. 6️⃣ Pickpockets and fake police specifically target periods when tourists are mixed in On La Rambla in Barcelona, Puerta del Sol in Madrid, at subway turnstiles, and in the Sagrada Família queue area, the mix of tourists + students + festival crowds in September–October brings out the rosemary bracelet scammers, fake police checking passports, and distraction thieves. For first-time visitors to Europe, keeping your phone in your back pocket, wearing a backpack on your back, or accepting a "free red string" on the street = standard procedure for being targeted. 📅 When is the right time? ✅ April–May: Andalusia isn't roasting, Barcelona is clear, orange blossoms are still in bloom in Seville. The sweet spot for a first trip to Spain. ✅ September (only if you don't fear the heat/know how to avoid the midday sun/only visit the Mediterranean and Madrid): More comfortable than July–August, but not a "no-brainer." ✅ October 8–end of October: City routes (Madrid + Barcelona + Seville) are okay, don't be greedy with the beach. ✅ La Rioja/Ribera del Duero grape harvest: Late September–October is truly great, but don't turn it into a "visit everywhere" trip. ❌ Early September for Andalusia: You'll be so hot you'll question your life choices. ❌ After October 20 for a big loop of "islands + pilgrimage + southern ancient cities": The sea is cold, the north is rainy, and the ancient cities are half-closed. 🚨 Survival guide if you insist on going in September–October · For your first trip, don't plan a full loop of "Barcelona + Madrid + Seville + Granada + Santiago + Mallorca." Choose either the "Mediterranean city route" or "Andalusia + Madrid." · Visiting the south in September: Leave before 8:30 AM, go into museums/markets/indoor venues from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and take photos of the old town after 6:00 PM. · Visiting in October: Bring a windbreaker + a light down jacket. Don't plan heavy outdoor routes in the north and west. · Book the Sagrada Família, Alhambra, Royal Palace of Madrid, and Prado/Reina Sofía Museum on the official websites in advance. Don't trust the "tickets available today" touts at the entrance. · In Barcelona/Madrid, wear your backpack on your chest. Don't accept bracelets, don't follow fake police, and don't take out your wallet near subway turnstiles. · Eat lunch before 2:00 PM, and don't wait until 10:00 PM to find a restaurant for dinner. Don't plan to visit attractions in small towns in the afternoon; having a glass of Sherry/Rioja + eating tapas is a better fit. · Don't plan beach trips after October 25. If you want to see the sea, go to Costa del Sol/Gran Canaria; it's more reliable than the Costa Brava. It's not that Spain isn't good; it's that if you come in September–October, you're gambling on southern residual heat, northern autumn rain, tail-end summer prices, siestas cutting your itinerary into pieces, and pickpockets picking the perfect time. Wait until the orange blossoms bloom in April, or until you learn to "hide during the day and come out at night" in late September. Only then will Gaudí's curves feel like they're speaking to you, and Seville's flamenco will truly get under your skin💃🍷

I can't call myself a fan or admirer of Salvador Dalí's work, but I admit that some of his works and his perception of the world are different from others. So, on one of our days in Barcelona, we went "in the footsteps of Salvador Dalí" – to Figueres and Cadaqués. Figueres houses his theater-museum, and Cadaqués (more precisely, the town that flows smoothly into the village of Port Lligat) is the house where he lived with Gala. Logistically, it's better to travel by car, as buses run three times a day from Figueres to Cadaqués. We managed to get there in one day, but didn't visit any museums. Ideally, we'd stay for a couple of days and explore to our heart's content! How to get there from Barcelona: The train to Figueres departs from Sants Station; the journey takes just under an hour. #spain #catalonia #figueres #dali

#EuropeanTravel #Spain #Figueres #Barcelona 💡Recommended travel destination in Figueres, Catalonia, Spain: Salvador Dali Theater 📍Dali Theater - Museum: Plaça Gala i Salvador Dalí, 5, 17600 Figueres, Girona, Spain 📍Opening hours: 10:30~17:00 / Closed on Mondays 📍Admission: Approximately 20 euros 🖼️ Let's introduce the Dali Theater in Figueres, a theater built in the 19th century and designed by Salvador Dali, a famous surrealist artist! The building itself is an architectural design that is rare in Europe, and it is a surreal and exotic building that looks like a giant egg made of a roof! It might feel unfamiliar to those who are interested in architectural design, so I recommend you visit it at least once! 🇪🇸 It takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes from Barcelona, and if you walk for about 15 minutes from Figueres Station, the place that immediately catches your eye is the Dalí Theater! It currently functions as a museum displaying Salvador Dalí's paintings and sculptures, and there is also an exhibition on the history of how the theater was operated at the time! I highly recommend visiting the Dalí Theater in Figueres!

A mere two hours drive from Barcelona, the town of Figueres is the birthplace of genius artist Salvador Dalí, the godfather of surrealism. In Figueres you can visit the Museum-Theatre Salvador Dalí. The space was conceived by the artist himself to become a playful exhibition of his artworks and inspiration; and it definitely delivers its promise. Through its rooms and corridors there are many of the artworks that the Spanish genius created during his life, from pairing to sculpture and even jewels. Big format paintings preside the main halls, while small and delicate jewelry pieces catch the attention easily. 📍Plaça Gala i Salvador Dalí, 5, 17600 Figueres, Girona 🕘 Open daily from 9:00 to 19:45 💶 from 21€ #timetotravel

I personally like the artist Salvador Dali, so I visited the ‘Dali Museum’ located in Figueres, Spain! The exterior was really unique, but the interior was even more unique and full of things to see! You can buy a ticket at the ticket booth and go in. Actually, there’s not much to see in Figueres other than the Dali Museum, so I recommend visiting Girona, which is nearby :) It was one of the places that I really remember, so even if you don’t know about Salvador Dali, why not take this opportunity to learn about him? 😋 #SummerTravel #LifeTravelDestination

If Girona is stone and history, then S’Agaró is sunshine and sea breeze. Located on the famous Costa Brava, the most worthwhile route to visit is the Camí de Ronda coastal walkway. 🌊 Azure Mediterranean Sea 🌿 Pine forests and cliffs 🏖️ Secluded coves 🏡 Elegant beachfront villas ☀️ White buildings bathed in sunlight The beauty here isn't the bustling scenery of typical seaside resorts, but rather a quieter, more refined Mediterranean atmosphere. Especially the coastal walkway, from Platja de Sant Pol → S’Agaró → Sa Conca, is breathtaking, filled with coves, reefs, and pine forests. ✨ Two places side by side Girona 🏰 → Medieval city, history, architecture, culture Sato d'Aro 🌊 → Mediterranean, bay, coastal promenade, resort atmosphere Upon arriving in the S’Agaró and Platja d’Aro area, the cuisine immediately shifts from rustic to Mediterranean seafood + Catalan cuisine. 🦐 Suquet de peix (Fish soup with seafood) Slow-cooked with fish, seafood, potatoes, etc., this is a very typical Catalan coastal dish. 🍚 Paella / Arròs (Seafood rice) A must-try here is the Catalan-style arròs. The rice absorbs the flavors of the fish soup and seafood, usually more moist than Spanish paella. 🦑 Grilled squid, grilled octopus Simply cooked with olive oil, salt, and herbs, perfect for the seaside. 🐟 Fresh fish of the day Grilled and fried fish are common in seaside restaurants; it's best to ask what fish are available that day. 🍅 Pa amb tomàquet (Tomato Bread) A classic Catalan snack: toasted bread rubbed with tomatoes, olive oil, and salt. Seemingly simple, but perfect with ham and cheese. 🍷 Add another local specialty Cava 🍾—one of Catalonia's most famous sparkling wines.

I loved the contrast between Barcelona and the Costa Brava. One side of my trip was filled with architecture, busy streets, and urban energy, while the other gave me quiet coastal paths and beautiful Mediterranean scenery. I spent time walking near the water and exploring charming seaside areas, which gave me a completely different perspective on Catalonia. The ability to combine culture, food, and city sightseeing with peaceful coastal scenery made the experience especially memorable. #citybreakvsnatureescapeape #citybreakvsnatureescape

My time on the Costa Brava was one of those experiences where I didn’t want to follow a strict schedule. I enjoyed wandering through small coastal areas, stopping whenever I found a beautiful viewpoint, and spending time beside the Mediterranean. After the energy of Barcelona, the slower pace felt refreshing. The combination of seaside villages, rugged cliffs, walking paths, and beaches made the region feel like a natural extension of a city break. #citybreakvsnatureescapeape #citybreakvsnatureescape

Exploring the Costa Brava after spending time in Barcelona felt like changing the entire rhythm of my trip. I enjoyed leaving the busy city streets behind and discovering coastal villages, rocky viewpoints, small beaches, and clear Mediterranean water. Walking along the coast gave me plenty of time to slow down and enjoy the scenery. I liked that I could still find cafés, local restaurants, and charming streets while being surrounded by nature. It was a perfect combination for #citybreakvsnatureescapeape. #citybreakvsnatureescape

More Stunning Than the Landmarks 🇪🇸📸 5 Photo Spots in Spain That Outshine the Landmarks Spain is so much more than just Barcelona, Madrid, or the Sagrada Família 🇪🇸 If you're looking for photos with more character, try exploring the ancient towns, white villages, Mediterranean coasts, and seaside gems of the north. 🎞️✨ 01 — Albarracín 🧡 A medieval town in the Aragón region that perfectly preserves its ancient Spanish atmosphere, featuring historic city walls, houses in shades of warm terracotta, and winding, steep streets. 📸 Recommended Angle: Stone streets + warm terracotta houses + the city wall perimeter. ✨ The town's colors are absolutely breathtaking during Golden Hour. 🏛️ The old town is officially recognized as a Spanish cultural heritage site. 02 — Frigiliana 🤍 A hillside white village in Málaga featuring narrow alleys, steps, and paths that follow its original Arab urban layout. 📸 Recommended Angle: White-washed streets + rustic wooden doors + colorful flower pots. ☀️ The Andalusian sunshine gives every shot a distinct Mediterranean mood. 🎞️ Ideal for film photography where white tones contrast beautifully with the blue sky and green foliage. 03 — Cadaqués 🌊 A charming seaside town on Catalonia's Cap de Creus peninsula. White houses line the bay against crystal clear waters and the rugged, rocky terrain of the Costa Brava. 📸 Recommended Angle: White houses + the bay + the rocky mountain backdrop. 🎨 A town with deep historical connections to artists like Salvador Dalí. ✨ The evening light reflecting off the water in the bay is particularly stunning. 04 — Ronda ⛰️ An ancient town in Andalucía perched atop the Tajo gorge, which drops more than 100 meters deep. 📸 Recommended Angle: Old town streets + the sheer cliffs + panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. 🌿 Try capturing shots from the gardens and viewpoints instead of focusing only on the Puente Nuevo bridge. 🎞️ Creates a very dramatic and cinematic Spanish aesthetic. 05 — Cudillero 🌈 A small fishing village in Asturias built into the side of a cliff surrounding the harbor. The brightly colored houses are stacked like a natural amphitheater. 📸 Recommended Angle: The view looking down from the observation point toward the harbor + colorful houses + the Cantabrian Sea. 🌊 If you have time, head over to Playa del Silencio located in the same area. ☁️ Lightly cloudy days provide a moody Northern Spain vibe that contrasts sharply with the look of Andalucía. ✨ PHOTO TIP — Spain Film Look Try pairing: White Walls + Blue Sky + Warm Sun + Green Plants 🤍💙🌿 Or if you head north, switch to: Colorful Houses + Ocean + Cloudy Sky 🌊☁️ Don't worry about cramming major landmarks into the frame. Let the streets, houses, and landscape tell the story. The photos will look more natural and have a distinct "Travel Film" feel. 🎞️

🏝️ Recommended trip duration: 1–2 days (essential day trip) / 2–3 days (in-depth leisure trip) 💡 Why visit: The image you described is spot on—"deep blue, light blue, and turquoise appearing on the sea surface at the same time"—this is exactly what makes Tossa de Mar so captivating. The "Wild Coast" of the Costa Brava finds its gentlest expression here: the sea is carved by mountains and rocks into small coves, and standing from a high vantage point, you can see the rocks beneath the water. This is also a filming location for the Korean drama "Legend of the Blue Sea." The combination of ancient city walls and "jelly-like" sea makes every photo look like a movie screenshot. 📌 Pre-trip essentials | Key information for 2026 ⏰ Best time to visit May–September offers sunny weather without being too hot, making it the golden window. The average temperature in September is 19–31°C. There is a significant temperature difference between day and night, so wear sunscreen during the day and bring an extra layer for the evening. 🎫 Tickets The Vila Vella medieval old town and city walls are completely free; no ticket is required. Some paid activities include: kayaking tours (approx. €25–35/person), private guided tours (including transfers), and small-group day tours (air-conditioned bus + guide). 🚗 Transportation | From Barcelona, approx. 1.5 hours Tossa has no train station, so buses are more convenient than trains. Take a direct bus from Barcelona Nord bus station; the journey takes 1.5 hours and costs approx. €12 one way. It is recommended to book tickets on the official website in advance and choose a seat on the right side for stunning coastal views along the way. Take a direct bus from the town bus station back to the Nord station; the last bus is around 5:00 PM–6:00 PM. Driving from Barcelona takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes; take the AP-7 highway to exit 94 (Tossa de Mar / Girona / Llagostera). Parking in the town is limited; during peak season, it is recommended to arrive early or park outside the town. 🏛️ Must-visit attractions | Your "jelly-like sea" photo spot checklist The essence of Tossa de Mar lies in the combination of the medieval old town and the jelly-like sea. It is recommended to follow the order of "city walls → lighthouse → small coves," as the lighting varies from morning to evening. 1. Vila Vella medieval old town and city walls Built in the 12th century, it is the only well-preserved medieval coastal fortress on the Catalan coast. Walk along the stone paths to the observation deck above the city walls for a panoramic view of the entire coastline and bay. Great photo spots include: Muralles de Tossa (the hollowed-out city wall at the highest point of the castle, perfect for silhouettes); Torre d'en Joanàs (the stone arch framing the entire Mediterranean, 3 minutes up from the "dog hole"); Municipal Museum of Tossa de Mar (approx. 15-minute wait, softest light before 10:00 AM); Gothic church ruins (12th-century stone structure, once a fortress against pirates); Far de Tossa lighthouse (mountain-top observation deck, where the sky takes on magical colors at sunset). 2. Platja Gran main beach The golden beach at the foot of the old town, backed by medieval city walls, is the best spot for "beach + old town" photos. It is recommended to shoot between 9:00 AM–11:00 AM when the light is soft and there are fewer people. 3. Hidden coves (the essence of the jelly-like sea) The true treasure of Tossa de Mar lies in the small coves scattered along the coastline. Cala Llevadó: turquoise water surrounded by pine forests and steep cliffs. Cala Bona and Cala Pola: natural coves with crystal-clear water. Cala Giverola: suitable for snorkeling and kayaking. Playa de la Mar Menuda: a small beach with clear water and calm waves. Playa d'es Codolar: a small cove between cliffs, a typical representative of the "calas" on the Costa Brava. It is recommended to visit in the afternoon when the light is slanted, as the water colors are richest then. 🗺️ Essential one-day itinerary | 8:30 AM–6:00 PM, efficient but relaxed Morning (8:30 AM–10:00 AM): Depart from Barcelona Nord bus station by direct bus. Morning (10:00 AM–12:30 PM): Arrive in Tossa, visit Platja Gran main beach first, then enter the Vila Vella medieval old town. Route: Old town gate → observation deck above the city walls → church ruins → lighthouse → popular "dog hole" photo spot. The light is best before 11:00 AM; it is recommended to queue 15 minutes in advance. Noon (12:30 PM–1:30 PM): Dine on the seaside pedestrian street below the old town. We recommend a traditional Cim i Tomba restaurant to try Catalan fish stew or paella. Afternoon (1:30 PM–4:30 PM): Explore the small coves. The Costa Brava in Spain is a charming stretch of coastline along the Mediterranean in northeastern Catalonia. Known as the "Wild Coast," it features cliffs, pine forests, crystal-clear bays, and enchanting fishing villages. It is not only a famous vacation destination but also a pilgrimage site for art lovers. 🎨 Art journey: the dream world of Dalí The Costa Brava is the home of surrealist master Salvador Dalí, who left a profound mark here. · Cadaqués: This fishing village with white walls and red tiles was Dalí's favorite place, where he spent his childhood and later years. · Salvador Dalí House-Museum: Located in Portlligat near Cadaqués, this labyrinthine house, converted from fisherman's huts, is the best window into Dalí's life and work. · The Dalí Triangle: In addition to his former home, you can visit the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres and the Gala Dalí Castle to fully appreciate the whimsical ideas of this master artist. 🌊 Stunning coastal scenery The scenery of the Costa Brava is diverse, from the sandy beaches in the south to the rugged rocks in the north, with each section offering a unique charm. · The South (La Selva): Home to the famous Blanes, this area features beautiful beaches and an old fishing village atmosphere, making it an excellent place to experience traditional Spanish culture. · The Center (Baix Empordà): This area is a blend of fashion and nature. Places like Palamós and Palafrugell boast charming bays and hilly landscapes, and are popular with the fashionable crowd from Barcelona. · The North (Alt Empordà): This is the most spectacular area. The Bay of Roses and Cap de Creus Natural Park showcase the wonders of nature and are perfect spots for hiking and ocean views. 🦞 Food and wine · Seafood feast: Freshly caught seafood from the local fishing ports is a must-try, especially at the ports of Roses and Cadaqués, where you can taste the most authentic Mediterranean flavors. · Michelin stars: The Costa Brava is a gourmet's paradise. It has been home to several Michelin-starred restaurants (such as the legendary El Bulli, which, although closed, left a profound influence; the creative cuisine of its chef, Ferran Adrià, is still reflected in local restaurants today). · Fine wine: The nearby Empordà region produces high-quality wines, which are the perfect accompaniment to a seafood dinner. 🚗 Trip suggestions · Recommended duration: 3–4 days · Transportation: The most convenient way is to fly into Girona Airport, or fly to Barcelona and take a high-speed train or bus to Blanes. · Route planning: It is recommended to travel from south to north. First, arrive in Blanes to experience the fishing village atmosphere, then head north along the coast, passing through Palamós, and finally arriving in Cadaqués and Roses. Stop at each town along the way to enjoy the sun, beaches, and food. The Costa Brava offers more than just sun and beaches; it has a deep artistic heritage and unique natural scenery, making it a destination worth savoring slowly.

I've always wanted to try a cruise, but I was worried about the hassle of organizing shore excursions myself. After researching a few routes, I chose the UTour "Voyage" 12-day Western Mediterranean cruise on the Myth of the Seas. It departs September 26 and returns October 7, with direct Air China flights from Beijing to Barcelona, and it even includes free nationwide connecting transport. The balcony cabin was 46,800 per person, including Schengen visa fees and insurance. It includes 4-star land hotels before and after the cruise, and all shore excursions include admission tickets and Chinese-speaking service, so I didn't have to scramble to find local guides at each port. First, about the ship. The Myth of the Seas is Royal Caribbean's brand-new flagship launching in 2026. At 248,000 tons, it's currently the largest luxury cruise ship in the Mediterranean. On day 8, we spent the entire day cruising at sea just hanging out on the ship. It has a water park with 6 slides, a 20-meter high suspended infinity pool, the largest ice dome theater at sea, escape rooms, rock climbing, and surfing—there's just too much to do. Free dining options include the main dining room, Windjammer buffet, Sorrento's, and Central Park Cafe. Central Park features over 13,000 tropical plants, and there are 15 bars, including 6 brand-new concepts. Specialty restaurants with extra charges include a steakhouse, teppanyaki sushi, and a seafood house; these are optional. Now, about the shore excursions. Starting and ending in Barcelona, the 8-day, 7-night cruise visits Spain, France, Italy, and the microstate of Andorra, all without having to change hotels. Days 1 and 2: Fly to Barcelona, then head to Tossa de Mar on the Costa Brava to tour the medieval old town before boarding the ship at 5:00 PM. Day 3: Arrive in Palma de Mallorca. Visit the interior of the Valldemossa Charterhouse—where Chopin and George Sand once lived—as well as the Palace of the Kings of Majorca and Bellver Castle. Day 4: Arrive in Marseille, France. See the city from the Notre-Dame de la Garde basilica, view the Château d'If (the prison from "The Count of Monte Cristo") from the Old Port, and head to Aix-en-Provence in the afternoon. Day 5: Take a train into Cinque Terre, a World Heritage site, and explore 2 of the colorful fishing villages. The train ride into the mountains was a great experience, much better than a bus. Day 6: Arrive in Rome. We covered the classic landmarks: the Colosseum, Arch of Constantine, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, and the Mouth of Truth. Day 7: Arrive in Naples. Tour the interior of the Pompeii ruins with a professional guide, then explore the old town of Naples. Day 8: Cruising at sea, spent the whole day on the ship. Day 9: Disembark and head to the microstate of Andorra to see the stone houses in the valley and the Dalí sculpture. Day 10: Return to Barcelona. Visit the interiors of the Sagrada Família and Park Güell. Seeing Gaudí's architecture in person is truly breathtaking. We also checked out the exteriors of Casa Milà and Casa Batlló, and took a walk along the buildings on Passeig de Gràcia. Days 11 and 12: Fly back to Beijing on Air China. A few practical tips: Cruise gratuities are US$129.50 per person, charged to your credit card on board. Formal attire is required for the Captain's Dinner. You'll need a credit card pre-authorization or a deposit of €200 to €250 when boarding. The deposit is CNY 20,000 per person. Cancellation policy: No penalty if canceled 91 days or more before departure; 25% penalty for 90–61 days; 50% penalty for 60–31 days; 100% penalty within 30 days. For those who want to avoid the hassle of traveling, are traveling with children, or are visiting Europe for the first time and find the visa process troublesome, this kind of all-inclusive cruise package is a great fit. You don't have to worry about arranging land accommodations or shore excursions yourself.

The Ritz-Carlton, Tianjin Executive Chef EDISON and TRB Hutong Chef LUCAS blend Mediterranean Western techniques at MELLO Charcoal Grill, cleverly incorporating local Tianjin ingredients and Eastern fermented flavors. It's a collision of Eastern and Western ingredients; while the two chefs have different personalities, they both share a burning passion for creation. The meal begins with six appetizers, three from each chef. Chef LUCAS's three appetizers offer diners a glimpse into his Spanish roots and past life experiences. Chef EDISON's three appetizers fully showcase his vibrant culinary creativity and Tianjin-fusion style. The tomato bread with anchovy is a classic Spanish snack; the toasted tomato bread is soft and charred, while the savory anchovy soaks into the bread, creating a rich, salty aroma. The passion fruit, pistachio, and kombu tart features a crispy base wrapped in the deep-sea umami of kombu, with the rich nuttiness of pistachios and the bright acidity of passion fruit cutting through the richness, making for a light and flavorful start. For the appetizer, the oyster with tree tomato aguachile features plump, succulent Gillardeau oysters paired with the sweet, juicy melon from Jixian, Tianjin. Fermented pineapple adds a gentle fermented note, while shallots and seaweed enhance the umami, and sea buckthorn juice injects a bright acidity. Prepared in the style of a Mexican aguachile cold soup, it is fresh and vibrant. The red prawn is sweet and bouncy, topped with Amur caviar for a burst of saltiness. Fermented pickled cabbage adds a tangy flavor, while the herbal scent of dill balances the richness of the seafood—a true collision of Eastern and Western flavors. The main course is the Fideuà, a Spanish seafood noodle dish brought by Chef LUCAS. It features a rich, mellow shrimp broth base, creamy and sweet sea urchin, and a touch of Amur caviar. The fine noodles are soaked in the seafood broth, allowing layers of oceanic flavor to burst forth. How could a meal at MELLO be complete without charcoal-grilled steak? The M9 Wagyu has rich, abundant marbling and a deep, fatty aroma. The slow-cooked Song-style yellow wine sauce infuses an Eastern wine character that is warm and mellow, cutting through the beef's richness, while seasonal vegetables balance the overall weight of the dish. The dessert is a hazelnut Napoleon brought by TRB pastry chef Ms. Deng Jia. The chocolate is precisely tempered and shaped into leaves with perfect marble patterns, fully capturing the mood of autumn. The two leaves also resemble the two chefs, turning their culinary dreams into wings in flight. In terms of taste, the chocolate is rich and silky, mixed with the toasted nuttiness of hazelnuts and almonds. The multi-layered pastry is crispy, and the chocolate ganache paired with coffee notes creates an interwoven texture of crispness and creaminess, with a sophisticated and restrained sweetness. The petit fours, also crafted by Ms. Deng Jia, include rich champagne truffle dark chocolate, fresh mint peach chocolate, elegant matcha truffle ganache, and sweet-and-sour raspberry dark chocolate. Life always needs a little sweetness. Furthermore, the service at MELLO Charcoal Grill—from the manager to all the staff—was professional yet relaxed, enthusiastic, and authentic. It made my trip back from Hangzhou for this dinner even more worthwhile.
