A historic mosque founded in the 15th century. Large calligraphy is written both inside and outside the building, and even if you don't understand the meaning, just looking at it makes you feel solemn. There is also a bustling bazaar nearby, making it a convenient location for buying souvenirs and daily necessities. #Breathtaking views

Edirne is a border town with Greece and Bulgaria. A steam locomotive and passenger cars have been preserved at the site of a former train station near the Greek border. It is interesting that you can freely climb into the driver's seat and the front of the locomotive. The old station building is now used as a university. A recommended place for steam locomotive fans.

#edirne #turkey . Not a tourist town but nowadays very famous with its super amazing shopping opportunities. It is located on 10km to both Bulgarian and Greek borders so many people from these countries come here to buy some new clothes, some Turkish delights and also the spend the weekend around the cafés. I have been there few times and I always enjoy it. #happynewyear

This is a breakdown of my expenses during my stay in Edirne, Turkey. It's a small, compact city located near the border with Bulgaria. There are many mosques, and I enjoyed walking around the large bazaars and markets. There was a great selection of souvenirs, scarves, and accessories; a cute bracelet cost around 70 yen! Prices felt considerably cheaper compared to Istanbul. There weren't many places to eat, but a little further from the city center, there were local restaurants frequented by locals where I could eat cheaply. This is a breakdown of my expenses during my stay in Edirne. #EuropeTravel #Turkey #TurkeyTravel

This is the total cost of my trip across Turkey. This time, I visited two cities: Edirne and Istanbul. Both feature massive bazaars that were a joy to explore, even if just for a stroll. Prices were lower in Edirne, so I did most of my souvenir shopping there. In contrast, Istanbul was generally more expensive—from dining to sightseeing—which is where the bulk of my spending occurred. The bazaars, lined with traditional Turkish souvenirs and carpets, are fascinating just to browse! Here is the breakdown of the total expenses for my Turkey trip. Travel Sightseeing

Edirne 🇹🇷

Edirne, Türkiye 🇹🇷 The Selimiye Mosque (Selimiye Camii) is one of the greatest masterpieces of Ottoman architecture, located in Edirne, Türkiye. It was commissioned by Sultan Selim II and designed by the legendary Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan. ✨ Highlights: · 🏛️ Built between 1568 and 1575 · 👨🎨 Designed by Mimar Sinan, who considered it his masterpiece · 🕌 Famous for its enormous central dome and elegant proportions · 🗼 Four slender minarets rise around the mosque, each reaching about 71 metres · 🌟 The mosque and its surrounding complex are a UNESCO World Heritage Site · 🎨 The interior features intricate Ottoman decoration, beautiful Iznik tiles, marble details, and graceful calligraphy 📍 Location: Edirne, Türkiye, close to the Greek and Bulgarian borders. The mosque dominates Edirne’s skyline and is especially breathtaking when viewed from the surrounding historic streets. “Selimiye Mosque—where Ottoman artistry, architectural genius, and spiritual beauty rise together beneath one magnificent dome.” 🇹🇷🤍 #SelimiyeMosque #SelimiyeCamii #Edirne #Turkey #Türkiye #OttomanArchitecture #MimarSinan #IslamicArchitecture #Mosque #UNESCO #EdirneTurkey #TravelTurkey #ExploreTürkiye #IslamicHeritage

#backpacking2026 Okay, fellow backpackers, let me tell you about the moment I almost walked right past the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne and became the biggest idiot in Turkey. So I'm mid-backpacking2026, running on instant coffee and vibes, dragging my 40L pack through cobblestone streets when this absolute UNIT of a building just... loomed over me. Sinan's masterpiece. Four minarets piercing the sky like he was flexing on every other architect in the Ottoman Empire. I literally stopped breathing. I walked in expecting "cool mosque." I got GOOSEBUMPS. The dome feels like it's floating — 31 meters wide, no visible support. I sat on the floor next to a local grandma who handed me tea from a thermos she apparently brought. We didn't share a language but smiled like old friends. That's backpacking, baby. Here's my question for you all:What's one unplanned stop on your backpacking trip that completely stole the show?Because Edirne wasn't even on my original list. Also — anyone else doing Southeast Europe in 2026? Drop your routes below. I'm building the ultimate backpacker itinerary and I need your chaos. 👇🧭

Marmaris isn't just yachts, a promenade, and a bustling downtown area. Hidden around the resort are coves with clear waters, pine trees, and a completely different atmosphere. Save this selection 👇 🏖 İçmeler Beach One of the most convenient options near Marmaris. A long sandy and pebble beach, calm sea, cafes, and a beautiful promenade. Perfect for a comfortable beach day without a long journey. 🌿 Turunç Beach A small, picturesque bay surrounded by mountains. The water here is usually very clean and clear. The atmosphere is much calmer than in Marmaris. You can get there by road or by boat. 💎 Kızkumu Beach A famous bay with an unusual natural spit extending far into the sea. This is more of a place for impressions and beautiful photos than a beach for a perfect all-day swim. 🌊 Çiftlik Beach If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, this is a great option. The bay is located somewhat offshore from Marmaris, so it's much quieter. The beach is surrounded by green hills, and the water is very clear. ⛱ Kumlubük One of my favorites for those who love beautiful natural locations. Turquoise water, mountains, pine trees, and the feeling of being far from a big resort. It's best to spend the day there. 🌴 Selimiye This isn't exactly a "Marmaris beach," but rather a destination worth a separate trip. A small bay, white yachts, clear water, and a very pleasant atmosphere. Perfect for combining with a stroll through the village and lunch by the sea. ⛵ And also beaches that are best viewed from the water One of the best ideas in Marmaris is to take a yacht tour and see small bays that are inaccessible by land. These are often where the sea is most clear. How to choose, in short: 📍 Closer to Marmaris → İçmeler 💎 Beautiful sea → Turunç 🌿 Peace and nature → Çiftlik 🏝 Maximum beauty → Kumlubük 📸 Unusual location → Kızkumu ⛵ Best bays → yacht trip Don't limit yourself to the beach near your hotel. Marmaris is especially beautiful when you get out of the city center and start exploring its bays. Which Marmaris beach would you add to this list? 👇 #marmaris #bodrum #marmaris

🇹🇷 Edirne feels completely different from the Turkey many travellers first imagine. It’s quieter than Istanbul, wonderfully walkable, and full of layers of history — but what I love most is that it still feels like a real, lived-in city rather than somewhere created for tourists. Of course, the magnificent Selimiye Mosque is the landmark everyone comes to see, but Edirne deserves more than a quick stop. Wander through the old streets, explore the bazaars, sit beside the Tunca and Meriç rivers, cross the historic bridges, and make time for Karaağaç, especially around the old railway station. Food is part of the experience too. Edirne is famous for its tava ciğeri (crispy fried liver), but even if that isn’t your thing, there are plenty of small cafés, bakeries and local restaurants worth discovering. One of my favourite things here is simply walking without a plan. You suddenly find an Ottoman building, a tiny shop, a beautiful doorway or a peaceful courtyard you would have completely missed on a rushed itinerary. 📍 Travel tip: Give Edirne at least one full day, but two days is much better if you want to experience it slowly. Comfortable shoes are essential — this is a city best discovered on foot. If you’re travelling through Turkey and want somewhere historic, affordable and much less overwhelming than the major tourist cities, don’t skip Edirne. It might surprise you. 🇹🇷✨ #Edirne #Türkiye #TurkeyTravel #EdirneTravel #SelimiyeMosque #Karaağaç #HiddenTurkey #TravelTurkey #TripMoments

Edirne, Turkey, is a charming city located just near the Bulgarian border. It's filled with beautiful mosques, and despite being quite compact, it features bustling bazaars and wide avenues, making it a breeze to explore without getting lost. You'll spot street dogs wandering around town. They're all vaccinated and incredibly friendly—if you're grabbing a bite to eat, they'll trot over looking hopefully for a snack. They were absolutely adorable! Compared to the much more famous Istanbul, the generally lower prices make it a fantastic and budget-friendly spot for tourists. Even right next to the bazaar, I was able to enjoy some chai for around 15 lira. Accessories and clothes are a steal, too—I snagged an adorable stole for just 120 lira! Plus, it's never too crowded, so you can really take your time browsing before you buy. Travel travel

Edirne, located near the border between Turkey and Bulgaria, has many mosques. The largest of them is the Selimiye Mosque. It's about a 10-minute walk from the bazaars and main streets. You can reach the mosque by simply following the main road. There are several small bazaars around the mosque, and shopping there is one of the pleasures of the trip. You'll find Turkish kebab and sweets shops, as well as everyday goods stores, offering a glimpse into the lives of the locals, which was fascinating. The mosque is open to visitors, but I couldn't find the entrance. If anyone has been there and been inside, please let me know! #edirne #Turkey #TurkeyTravel #Mosque

Edirne is a city near the border between Turkey and Bulgaria. Because there are few foreign tourists, it had a calm atmosphere. After Edirne, I went to Istanbul. Souvenirs like accessories and sweets were cheaper in Edirne. Edirne's charm lies in its affordable prices and the opportunity to enjoy local culture, including restaurants. It's not that there aren't enough shops; the size is just right. I bought several pieces of jewelry as souvenirs. A cheap bracelet cost around 25 lira, which is about 80 yen. The Turkish designs were very cute. #turkey #tourism #edirne #Turkey #Turkeytravel

Edirne is a true treasure, just a 2.5-hour drive from Istanbul. As the former capital of the Ottoman Empire before Istanbul, it is steeped in history, culture, and culinary delights. Their fried liver is a must-try specialty. The Selimiye Mosque is stunning, offering breathtaking views both inside and out.

Edirne, Turkey is a beautiful and quiet city. It is very close to Greece and Bulgaria. The city is famous for its history and old buildings. The best place to see is the Selimiye Mosque. Small in size, grand in spirit — this miniature of Selimiye Mosque captures the brilliance of Mimar Sinan’s masterpiece. From the soaring central dome to the slender minarets, every detail reflects the elegance, symmetry, and artistry of the original mosque in Edirne, Türkiye. Even in miniature, the intricate Iznik tile patterns, graceful arches, and precise proportions are preserved, reminding us of the architectural genius that made Selimiye Mosque a symbol of Ottoman grandeur and devotion. Holding this miniature in your hand is like holding a piece of history — a delicate reminder that great beauty can exist in both grand structures and tiny representations, carrying timeless inspiration wherever it goes. Miniature Selimiye Mosque: A small tribute to a monumental masterpiece #discoversaudimoment

#AprilGoodDestinations2025 #Turkey If you come to Istanbul and only check in those well-known popular attractions, you will really miss a place that is worth visiting - Camlica Hill. Although this mountain is not high, it is one of the best viewing points in the entire city. Standing on the top of the mountain, you can almost see a 360-degree panoramic view: the Bosphorus Strait runs across both sides, and Europe and Asia are in full view. It is so beautiful that it takes your breath away. What surprises me is that this place has not yet been flooded with tourists! Therefore, the overall atmosphere is very quiet, very suitable for walking slowly and watching quietly. Surrounded by large forests, there are many paths and benches. Sitting down, drinking a cup of coffee and quietly enjoying the magnificent view of the Bosphorus is really a spiritual relaxation. If you bring children with you, don’t worry - as you walk up the mountain towards the tower, you’ll pass through a forest area where there are actually two free children’s play areas! There is also a mosque on the mountain with toilets inside, but this is the only drawback here: there are no public toilets in the park area of the entire mountain, and you can only go to the mosque to use the toilet, which may be a bit inconvenient for some people.

Decided to visit the Islamic Arts Museum (IAMM) near Lake Gardens this morning. Left my dog at home since museums obviously don't allow pets, though the surrounding garden area looked quite nice, if not for the heat. Managed to get a parking spot right outside the building because I arrived early, around 10:00 AM. If you come later on a weekend, you might have to park further down the slope and walk up, which isn't very fun in this humid weather. Ticket price is RM 20 per person, which is reasonable enough. The air conditioning inside was a welcome relief. I spent quite some time in the architecture gallery. The scale model of the Ottoman Selimiye Mosque is very detailed, from the central dome down to the tiny minarets. It takes some patience to look through all the models, but the craftsmanship is good. Also walked through the manuscript section. As someone who works in education, I found the Chinese Sini calligraphy exhibits quite interesting. Seeing Islamic text written with Chinese brushwork on rice paper is a unique mix of cultures. Before leaving, I stopped by the jewelry and arms section to see the Mughal horse-headed jade dagger. The handle is carved out of a single piece of soft jade and decorated with small rubies and diamonds. It is very detailed up close. By about 12:30 PM, my legs were getting tired and the galleries were starting to get a bit crowded with tour groups. Spent about two and a half hours there in total. Headed back home after that to check on the pets and have lunch.

Getting There - Buses every hour from Istanbul Otogar. The journey takes 2 1/2 hours. There is also a train to take much longer. Attractions - it is the former capital of Ottoman Empire is the city of ancient mosques, and the old town is very attractive. Don’t miss the Great Synagogue, (埃迪爾內猶太會堂 Büyük Sinagog ) dedicated in 1909 in the city’s Jewish quarter. Hotels - The Plaza Edirne offer modern comfort. For authentic experience, try hotel Şimşek Edirne. Food & Restaurants - there are many authentic restaurants in the old town in or near Alipasha Bazaar covered Bazaar Shopping - Edirne, Kaleiçi district
