This was a lot of fun and a fantastic way to explore. Normally, I’d just head to the main street of a town and look around, but this experience let us discover places we might have driven past or wouldn’t have stopped at otherwise. It was great fun! We also got a good amount of food—morning tea with banana bread and coffee, plus other treats that made for a late lunch. Exploring the Sunshine Coast hinterland this way was a delightful experience. In terms of value, the total cost of the included goodies alone was about $120. On top of that, you’re also paying for the clues (which took us an hour to solve and were very enjoyable), a mapped-out trip, and the convenience of not needing to think about what foods to buy, leaving more time for exploring. Today, I had the chance to visit Mapleton Falls National Park, and I have to say it's another spot that impressed me far more than I thought it would! ❤️ Located in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland near the town of Mapleton, about 105 kilometers north of Brisbane, this national park features lush rainforests, eucalyptus groves, a valley lookout, and easy hiking trails. It’s absolutely perfect for anyone wanting to experience peaceful nature without driving too far from Brisbane. The first thing that blew me away was the view from the Mapleton Falls Lookout. From the observation deck, you can look down over the vast forest of the Obi Obi Valley and the overlapping mountain ranges stretching as far as the eye can see. On a clear day with a bright blue sky, layered clouds floating above the mountains, and sunlight dappling the forest below, the view right in front of you is truly stunning. It might look gorgeous in photos, but standing there in person is a completely different feeling. The view has so much depth and scale. With the cool breeze blowing, the fresh air, and the profoundly quiet atmosphere, it feels like taking a temporary break from the hustle and bustle of the city. 🌿☁️ The main lookout is super close to the parking lot. This area is also home to Mapleton Falls, formed by Pencil Creek dropping approximately 120 meters into the valley below. However, the water volume varies depending on the season and rainfall, so at times, there might not be as much water as there is right after a rainy spell. Personally, I feel this place is about much more than just the waterfall. To me, the valley and forest views are the real highlights. Especially on a clear day like when we went, seeing the blue sky, beautiful clouds, and layers of green mountains really makes you appreciate just how stunning Queensland's nature is. Another thing I love is that the place doesn't feel overly commercialized. There are no shops or large structures to ruin the natural vibe. It’s the perfect spot to just sit back, relax, take photos, go for a stroll, breathe in the fresh air, and take your time with nature. ⸻ 🚗 How to get there from Brisbane It’s an easy day trip drive from Brisbane. According to Queensland Parks, the main route is to drive north from Brisbane along the Bruce Highway towards Nambour for about 105 kilometers. Then, head west for around 11 kilometers to Mapleton, and take Obi Obi Road for another 3 kilometers until you reach the turn-off with signs directing you to Mapleton Falls National Park. I recommend typing this into Google Maps: Mapleton Falls National Park or Mapleton Falls Lookout Once you arrive, the main lookout is right next to the parking area, so there's no need for a long walk. For those traveling from the Sunshine Coast area, you can also drive up into the Hinterland and head towards Mapleton. Of course, the actual travel time will depend on your starting point and traffic conditions. ⸻ ☀️ What to prepare before you go I highly recommend bringing your own drinking water, as the park states there is no drinking water available on-site. Wear comfortable walking shoes, appropriate clothing, a hat, sunscreen, and insect repellent—especially if you plan to hike the forest trails. Some parts of the tracks can be slippery when wet, and the cliff edges and waterfall areas pose a risk, so always stick to the designated paths and stay behind the safety fences. The park also advises checking Park Alerts before your trip, particularly during heavy rain, as some trails may be closed due to flooding or unsafe conditions. Flew to Perth for three days in the CBD, then drove to Busselton for a night before heading to Cape Naturaliste en route to Margaret River for a three-night stay. Margaret River offered scenic views, delicious food, and perfect oceanfront accommodation near Surfer's Beach, just a short walk to nearby beaches. Took a day trip to Mammoth Caves and Cape Leeuwin, stopping along the way for scenic views and hikes. From Margaret River, drove towards Denmark and visited the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk. Then continued to Albany's Middleton Beach for daily swims in the bay, walks to Albany's CBD, and a hike at Bluff Knoll. Next, headed west and enjoyed a few days in both Bunbury and Fremantle, returning to Perth to see Split Enz and the following day join the Pinnacles guided bus tour. The tour included a rock lobster lunch in Cervantes and a Swan River Valley visit, led by an excellent guide, Chris. The Dale Tilbrook Aboriginal experience the next day was highly educational. Flew back to Brisbane for around four days on the Sunshine Coast, exploring the canals via boat tour, visiting the Australian Zoo, hiking Mount Ngungun, and spending an afternoon in Montville. Returned to Brisbane for one more night before flying home. It was a wonderful trip packed with adventures and unforgettable moments.

Beautiful, peaceful and very relaxing. The location was very convenient, with lovely seaside walks, beautiful beach views and a cool ocean breeze. I enjoyed the beautiful food and service for a Sunday dinner at "Cala Luna Italian". Great variety on the menu, fresh and delish! Perfect wine pairing too. I'll definitely be back!
