Jantar Mantar - Jaipur

Intro - Jantar Mantar is an observatory and monument in Jaipur, Rajasthan state, India. This is a collection of 19 astronomical instruments built by King Maharaja Jai Singh II between 1727 and 1734, when Jaipur was then the capital of the dynasty. It is home to the world's largest stone sundial and is an illustrative example of geocentrism shared by many civilizations. This monument complex located near the City Palace and Hawa Mahal has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 2010. Attractions - The complex has astronomical instruments operating according to three main classical astronomical coordinate systems: Horizon Coordinate System, Equatorial Coordinate System and Ecliptic Coordinate System. Kapala Yantraprakara operates in two systems and allows conversion between coordinate systems. The observatory was damaged in the 19th century but was soon restored under the supervision of Major Arthur Garrett during the amateur astronomer's time in Jaipur.
