Ulaanbaatar Surroundings Tour Guide - Terji National Park

Transportation: Terji National Park is situated a few kilometers outside of Ulaanbaatar and can be accessed by renting a car. You have the option of classic Soviet cars or Toyota Alphas, with pricing differing between the two. Soviet cars are more budget-friendly, typically costing around 100 USD per day for a vehicle that can seat six people. While they may not be as comfortable as the Toyota Alphas, they offer a unique experience. Traffic in Ulaanbaatar can be quite busy, and even with an early departure, we found ourselves caught in traffic for a while. Scenery: My visit to the park occurred during autumn, which filled the park with stunning golden forests. There were no designated attractions, but we did make several stops along the way. Firstly, we visited the Tortoise Rock, a climbable formation that is quite steep. Surrounding the rock, After our climb, it was time for lunch, and our driver took us to a herder's barbecue restaurant. The portions were generous, and the food was delicious. The barbecue had a distinctive flavor, possibly due to the method of heating stones and placing them in a bucket, then adding large pieces of meat, potatoes, and carrots. The meal was seasoned naturally, with no additional spices, yet the meat was savory and lacked gaminess. The carrots in Mongolia were particularly sweet, more so than those in China, with a taste reminiscent of sweet potatoes. Following the meal, horses were available for riding in the area, offering a slightly more affordable option than at Tortoise Rock. On our return journey, we stopped by the river to watch Mongolians fishing, while they rode horses in the water.
