Tunisian desert gateway, the romance and oasis spectacle of Tozeur

🚗Continue self-driving from Kairouan, next stop: Sahara Desert. As the city of rest before we enter the hinterland of the desert, Tozeur has the title of "Desert Gateway" and is also the oasis city of Tunisia. In the vast desert of yellow sand, the fertile soil is so abundant with water and grass, it's really rare. 🌴Here you can not only feel the roughness and desolation of the desert, but also the spectacular scenery of the oasis. This is the location of the "Star Wars" shooting, and also the best place for sweet dates. The small city is covered with a date palm forest of 1,000 hectares. For many years, people have been irrigating this land with underground spring water, maintaining the fragile ecological balance of this oasis. 🏔️On the mountains in the desert around the city of Tozeur, there are also several scenic spots with unique "mountaintop oases", with Chebika, Tamerza, and Mides oases being the most famous, and we went to two of them. 1️⃣Chebika is the first mountaintop oasis to arrive. Climbing to the top of the mountain along the trail behind the mountain, you can overlook the source of the entire oasis, and you can also overlook the entire cityscape of Tozeur. Following the downhill trail, listening to the gurgling spring water surging in the depths of the valley, watching the small waterfall formed between the cliffs, nourishing this land, it is a paradise in the yellow earth. 2️⃣Tamerza Oasis, not far from Chebika, inside is the Mides Gorge, which is only one kilometer from the Algerian border. The natural combination of high mountain desert and oasis is spectacular and gorgeous. This was the location for the shooting of the film "The English Patient", which won nine awards at the 69th Oscars. This film, constructed by desert, airplane, map, war, mural and Hungarian ballad, is known as "soft as oil painting". Here, you can feel the romantic feelings in the desert spreading. 👫The temperature in Tozeur this season is just right, not cold or hot. There are stalls selling souvenirs and food in the scenic area. For the first time, I saw desert roses and amethyst raw stones, and for the first time I drank fresh juice squeezed from authentic Tunisian soft-seeded pomegranates. Sitting in the sun outdoors in front of low stone walls and rough houses, chatting with friends and newly met locals, is our way of communicating with the world, and it's an afternoon worth freezing in time.
