Walking 28,000 steps in downtown Singapore / One-day trip with kids and seniors Taking two seniors and one child to Singapore during summer vacation One-day downtown itinerary National Museum (under renovation, just view the exterior) → Fort Canning Park (the 'tree tunnel' is here; avoid going at noon as it's too hot) → National Gallery (the children's museum on the first floor is free, a must-visit for families) → Merlion Park. (It might be too rushed to include Gardens by the Bay in one day. I suggest splitting it into two days for a more relaxed pace, and you can also visit the Old Hill Street Police Station.)

Art Remembers 🖼️

When Art Functions as Memory

The Art Remembers exhibition at the National Gallery Singapore invites you to look at “memory” from a different perspective. It’s not just about preserving the past, but about reinterpreting evidence, photographs, documents, and stories that might be forgotten through contemporary art.

The exhibition features over 20 works by artists from Singapore and Southeast Asia, including photographs, prints, videos, installations, and technology-based pieces. Many pieces reinterpret historical narratives and memories not included in mainstream storytelling.

What I appreciated was that the exhibition didn’t feel like reading a history book, but rather used images, sounds, objects, and space to bring past stories back to life.

One striking piece was Krack!’s work, Mendjelang Hari Gemilang (Towards a Glory Day), which uses historical images and media to create a large-scale installation. The vibrant colors and composition drew me in, making me stop and examine the small details hidden within the artwork.

Another interesting aspect is the use of contemporary technology and media to discuss the future of “memory archives.” This raises the question: in a world filled with photographs, digital files, and vast amounts of data, what will remain remembered, and what will gradually disappear?

For those who enjoy museums and art with a story behind it, this exhibition is a delightful experience. It's not just about the beauty of the artwork; it invites you to pause, reflect, and view history through the eyes of the artist.

Former Supreme Court Holding Cells 🏛️

📍 National Gallery Singapore

Ng Teng Fong Roof Garden Gallery 🌿🏙️

📍 Ng Teng Fong Roof Garden Gallery, Singapore

Lower Link Bridge & Upper Link Bridge 🌉🏛️

Spago Bar & Lounge — City View from the 57th Floor 🍸🌇

On the 57th floor of Marina Bay Sands, there's another perfect spot to relax and let time slow down: Spago Bar & Lounge, Chef Wolfgang Puck's bar and lounge, offering a luxurious yet not overly formal atmosphere.

The most striking feature is the high-altitude view, overlooking the Singapore skyline, along with the Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay. Located in Hotel Tower 2, Level 57 of the Sands SkyPark, the restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating areas with stunning views.

This time, the atmosphere was particularly special. Afternoon sunlight streamed through the windows, creating a golden hue on the dining tables, while the outside view of the city was tinged with fog or haze, softening the skyline and adding a unique dimension.

🍔 Food and Drinks

Spago Bar & Lounge's menu focuses on casual dining and bar bites, offering easy-to-eat options from burgers, sandwiches, and rolls to sharing dishes, along with a wide selection of wines and cocktails.

From the photos, the burger and fries seem to perfectly complement the lounge's ambiance. It's a meal that's not overly formal, but still offers food, drinks, and a rooftop view all at once.

For those who want to enjoy the view more than a serious meal, the time before sunset until evening is probably the most beautiful, as the natural light gradually changes from warm tones to the city lights of the night.

✨ My feelings after visiting:

What I liked about Spago is that it doesn't feel like a flashy rooftop bar, but a place where you can comfortably enjoy a meal, a drink, and gaze at the city.

If you want to experience Marina Bay Sands from a different perspective without having to go into the hotel's infinity pool — Spago Bar & Lounge is a great option, as it's located on the 57th floor and offers direct rooftop views.
