Jiangxi Tourism | The Patron Deity of Jiangxi People Has Finally Returned - Nanchang Wanshou Palace

Wanshou Palace, also known as 'Jiangxi Guild Hall' in many places, is a spiritual symbol for Jiangxi people. Similar to this Qing Dynasty guild hall architecture, there are others like the Fujianese guild hall called 'Tianhou Palace', and the Shan-Shaanxi guild hall called 'Guandi Temple', where Xu Zhenren - Xu Xun is worshipped and has become the patron deity of Jiangxi people. Xu Zhenjun was from Nanchang County, Yuzhang Prefecture, Jiangxi during the Jin Dynasty, and along with Zhang Daoling, Ge Xuan, and Sa Shoujian, he is known as one of the four great Celestial Masters of Taoism. He is also called Xu Xian, Xu Jiulang, Xu Jingyang, and also known as Xu Tianshi, Jingyang Zushi, and Gan Tian Da Di. He not only brought benefits to the people of Jiangxi but also traveled to Hunan, Hubei, Fujian, Sichuan, and other places to eliminate water disasters, slay demons, and rescue the distressed, earning widespread respect. Since the Song Dynasty, Jiangxi's economy and culture have flourished, and Wanshou Palace has also spread far and wide with the footsteps of Jiangxi merchants. These Wanshou Palaces are the Jiangxi guild halls, serving as places for Jiangxi people abroad to conduct business, worship, and stay temporarily. Xu Zhenjun is also regarded as the patron deity of Jiangxi people. Wanshou Palace was originally built during the Jin Dynasty, and after several destructions and reconstructions, it was last rebuilt in the tenth year of the Qing Tongzhi era (1871). Unfortunately, it was destroyed in the 1970s and was converted into a school. What we see today is basically the reconstruction that began in 2014. Nowadays, Wanshou Palace is more like a museum.
