This Triumphal Arch has a passage height of 28 meters, and was built according to the style of the Roman Constantine’s Arch. There are 6 groups of 12 columns that form the base of the arch. The columns are cast pig iron, are 12 meters tall, and weigh 16 tons. Between the columns there stand warriors holding shield and spear, and above the heads of the warriors there is a relief depicting the Russian and French armies at war. On top of the Arch there are 6 winged horses drawing a chariot ridden by the goddess Victory, with a Laurel garland held high in her hand, facing the entrance to the city. The warriors underneath her whose hands hold sharp swords or laurel garlands and olive branches, symbolize peace and victory. Between the doors, there are 4 statues of Russian soldiers who wear helmets and hold guns in their hands, on their fingers there is written “Expulsion of the French, Liberate Moscow,” on the door lintel decoration there are the city emblems of 44 cities that resisted the Napoleonic army. The triumphal arch is covered in white stone, which contrasts against the black column in an eye-catching manner.
