If you're visiting for the first time, these are the 6 places I'd put at the top of your list. 🕌 1. JEMAA EL-FNAA Start in the heart of the city. Jemaa el-Fnaa is Marrakech's legendary main square, surrounded by the sounds, smells and movement of the Medina. During the day, it's busy with food stalls, performers and local life. Come back after sunset when the square transforms and the atmosphere becomes even more intense. Best for: Atmosphere, food & people-watching. 🛍️ 2. THE MEDINA & SOUKS Then get lost. Marrakech's ancient Medina is a maze of narrow streets filled with colourful textiles, lanterns, spices, leather goods and traditional crafts. There's no better way to experience the city than simply wandering without a strict plan. Just be prepared to stop constantly. Best for: Shopping, photography & exploring. 🌿 3. JARDIN MAJORELLE Step away from the chaos and into one of Marrakech's most famous gardens. The Jardin Majorelle is known for its striking cobalt-blue buildings, exotic plants and peaceful pathways. The colour alone makes it one of the most recognisable places in the city. Arrive early if you want to experience it before the crowds build. Best for: Gardens, colour & photography. 🏛️ 4. BAHIA PALACE For a glimpse of Marrakech's architectural heritage, head to the Bahia Palace. Built in the late 19th century, the palace is filled with ornate courtyards, carved wooden ceilings, colourful zellige tiles and intricate decoration. Take your time here. It's the details that make the place memorable. Best for: Architecture, history & design. 🕌 5. KOUTOUBIA MOSQUE You can't really explore Marrakech without seeing its most famous landmark. The Koutoubia Mosque and its distinctive minaret have dominated the city's skyline for centuries. While non-Muslims cannot enter the mosque, the surrounding gardens and streets offer excellent views of the architecture. It's particularly beautiful around sunset. Best for: Iconic views & Marrakech's history. 🐪 6. AGAFAY DESERT Finish by leaving the city behind. Just outside Marrakech, the Agafay Desert offers vast rocky landscapes, dramatic sunsets and a completely different side of Morocco. Spend an afternoon exploring the desert, then stay for sunset as the landscape changes colour. It's the perfect contrast to the energy of the Medina.
