Yongding Tulou

As a unique gem of ancient Chinese architecture, located in Yongding District, Longyan City, in the southwestern part of Fujian Province, it represents the traditional architectural art of the Hakka people. These tulou showcase the wisdom of the Hakka, featuring multiple functions such as earthquake resistance, fire prevention, and defense, while also providing good ventilation and lighting, warm in winter and cool in summer, embodying the Hakka tradition of unity and mutual love passed down through generations. Yongding Tulou is divided into three main types: Wufeng Lou, square buildings, and round buildings, with nearly 5,000 large buildings of three stories or more, and over 360 round buildings. These tulou were first built in the late Tang and early Song dynasties, became quite common in the late Yuan dynasty, and reached their peak during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Yongding Tulou is renowned not only for its architectural features but also for being a filming location for the movie 'Big Fish & Begonia.' Among them, Chengqi Lou, known as the king of tulou, is not only massive in scale and unique in shape but also enjoys the reputation of 'massive scale, four stories high, four circles, and four hundred rooms up and down.'
