Clarke Quay

Clarke Quay is located in the central area of Singapore, situated by the Singapore River, covering an area of over 50 acres. It was once a maritime trade and cargo exchange site, consisting of five colorful buildings with more than 60 warehouses and shophouses, all of which retain their 19th-century appearance, reflecting the historical significance of the docks and warehouses. There used to be a wharf along the Singapore River for unloading goods, which has now been transformed into a commercial consumption place that combines shopping, dining, and entertainment. Especially at night, the area is brightly lit, bustling with crowds, and filled with the joyous atmosphere of a festival. This is the famous Clarke Quay in Singapore City, a must-visit spot for tourists. We visited here on the evening of July 29, 2023. Clarke Quay's riverside buildings, originally used for storage and cargo, have been converted into restaurants, bars, and entertainment centers. The most eye-catching at night are the open-air bars along the river, with their various exquisite decorative lights, flamboyant and dazzling, attracting everyone's attention. Both sides of the river are filled with tourists. Groups of young people, drawn by the lifestyle and tastes, have undoubtedly become regulars there. Only we were deeply observing this world of glitz and glamour, without feeling out of place, but sometimes feeling a sense of alienation as times change. The riverboats carry tourists along the Singapore River, offering views of the riverside scenery. Along the way, one can also admire the Merlion, the Durian Pavilion (Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay), and the financial center skyscrapers. There is also a direct boat to the observation wheel at the mouth of the Singapore River. The canopy of Clarke Quay is one of its distinctive features, stretching endlessly and covering almost the entire dock area, providing shelter from the unpredictable Singapore climate. During the day, the canopy is transparent and unremarkable. But at night, it begins to exude a charming magic, changing colors with the rhythm, full of charm. Humans are innately phototropic, and the commercial landmark effect of Clarke Quay is instantly showcased under the illumination of lights. Coupled with the twinkling stars reflected from the transparent glass curtain walls, the leisurely atmosphere is fully embodied at Clarke Quay.
