Big Island travels - history & vanilla farms

Getting There - Approx. 1.5 hrs from Kona along HI-19 or 50min from Hilo also on HI-19 (the belt road will take you right around the big island 😁) Attractions - historic Honokaa town is a sleepy little village on the north west side of Hawaiis Big Island. A great stop for culture and history on this quiet island. Food & Restaurants - Gramma’s Kitchen (home of long soup corner - we’re not sure why the soup gets a corner but the food was delicious) Shopping - plenty of boutique gift and homewares shops along the Main Street mixed in with local stores. Stop number 2 on our drive was another educational yet entertains and highly delicious place. The Hawaiian Vanilla Co. Tucked away at 43-2007 Paauilo Mauka Rd, Paauilo, HI 96776 this vanilla farm is well worth the drive. Make sure you book ahead for the tour and lunch option. The tour will take you around the farm where you will learn everything you need to know about growing and harvesting vanilla pods. and the smell as you wander around is Devine. After the tour there is a tasting lunch (allergy and dietary requirement friendly just let them know when you book) everything we ate and as so tasty we forgot to take pictures. Then don’t forget to stock up on fresh vanilla product on your way out. #foodie #gooutside
