A Day Trip to Kong Garden in Chongqing

Located in the dense forest on the hillside of Jianwen Peak in Nanwenquan, there are two old residences over 70 years old hidden; one of them is the official residence Kong Garden of Kong Xiangxi, the former Premier of the Nationalist Government and Minister of Finance. Kong Garden is situated on the hillside of Jianwen Peak by the Huaxi River, surrounded by green pines and bamboo, in a very quiet environment. The main building covers an area of 685 square meters, a one-story building with a basement combining Chinese and Western architectural styles made of brick and wood. There is a basement with three rooms on one side of the house, and the villa has a total of 22 rooms. Stepping into the interior of the official residence, the vast space inevitably evokes images of the days when Kong Xiangxi and his wife invited guests here for summer retreats and held banquets and dances. Each room, through exhibitions and scene restorations, displays the life of Kong Xiangxi and the related historical events during the war of resistance. The furnishings in the rooms are retro and exquisite, and the wax figures are lifelike. Coming to the spacious balcony corridor on the second floor, looking out, you can overlook the entire Nanwenquan. Walking out of the official residence, on its right, there is a huge air-raid shelter, which is Kong Xiangxi's underground air-raid shelter. This memory of the war of resistance is now quietly waiting for the old land of Nanwenquan, with a thousand styles, telling its past to the later generations.
