Green oasis in the middle of Bangkok

Bang Kachao is an island in the middle of Bangkok, right on the Chao Praya River. From Klongtoeynok (Phothong) Pier, you take a 5-min boat ride to the island, which costs 5 baht per way. The island is a totally different feel from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. It allows one to get immersed in a tropical jungle, with the occasional tall building peeking out from the tree tops. The best way to get around the island is to rent bicycles, which can rented for about 100 baht a day. Other than traditional villages and small restaurants serving local delicacies, you will get to see some wildlife if you are observant. I would recommend going on a weekend as the floating market will be open then. There is a wide array of shops selling all sorts of snacks, souvenirs, cosmetics etc. The weather is hot all year round, and I had a couple bottles of freshly squeezed orange juice during my ride.
