Bali's Enchanted Jatiluwih Rice Terraces

#2024wish Embarking on my exploration of Jatiluwih Rice Terraces near Mount Batukaru in Bali was a journey into a captivating landscape spanning over 19,500 hectares. This living tribute to Bali's cultural heritage, recognized by UNESCO, showcases the sustainable irrigation practices ingrained in the Subak system. On my way up the mountains, it was cold and breezy. However, when I reached the Jatiluwih Rice Terrace around 10am, it was the perfect weather; bright sun with a lovely breeze. As I strolled through the expansive rice fields, the vibrant green hues and the invigorating mountain air created a truly enchanting atmosphere. Opting for the longer walking circuits, I discovered hidden corners and picturesque spots, with well-placed drink stops offering moments of rejuvenation. An entry fee of 40k IDR for adults and 2k IDR for scooter arrivals helps in contributing to the support of local farmers. This consideration added a meaningful layer to my experience. Despite occasional comparisons with Tegalalang rice terraces, Jatiluwih held its own allure, providing a unique opportunity to witness the captivating beauty of Bali's rice fields The UNESCO designation in 2012 aligns with the cultural significance of the Subak system, drawing over 200,000 annual tourists like myself and showcasing Bali's rich agricultural traditions. For someone seeking an off-the-beaten-path Balinese encounter, away from crowded tourist spots, the journey to Jatiluwih promised moments of tranquillity amidst the serene Balinese life. Navigating the well-prepared hiking trails, I opted for the orange route, savouring the diverse scenery. In essence, my time at Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, a UNESCO Heritage site, was a deeply personal and authentic journey. Despite minor comparisons, its unique charm, stunning landscapes, and cultural significance through the Subak system make it an indispensable stop for anyone exploring Bali's rich tapestry of natural and cultural wonders. I would wish to go London to visit their historic and culture sites. I love their architecture and gardens. #flowerlover #jatiluwih #unesco #nature #riceterrace
