Outside, the summer heat is 35℃, but inside the cave, the temperature stays at 18℃, offering an instant escape from the heat wave. It’s perfect for a family-friendly short trip to cool off and immerse yourself in an underground adventure. The karst cave formed over millions of years is filled with uniquely shaped stalactites and stalagmites. The new light and shadow effects create an immersive atmosphere. We found this place through Trip.com when planning our route. 📍Salt Industry History Museum Why this place is a must-visit: 🏮 Architecture This building took 16 years to build. Look at these incredible cornices – they're called "swallow's wings." The entire façade is decorated with "stone lace" – carvings so finely crafted that you could spend hours gazing at them. 🧂 The Secret of the Salt Millionaires It's hard to believe, but all this luxury was built not for the emperor, but for salt magnates. In the 18th century, salt was "white oil." While the rest of the world was digging shallow pits, in Zigong they were already drilling wells over a kilometer deep! 🚀 Technology While Europe was only dreaming of depths, in Zigong they had already drilled a 1001-meter well! And they did it with bamboo and buffalo. In the museum, you'll see blueprints of these "bamboo skyscrapers." The Chinese were also the first in the world to learn how to use natural gas for industrial purposes. They built bamboo pipelines that carried gas to furnaces to evaporate salt. This was the world's first industrial energy grid, created by hand. After the museum, walk to the nearest riverside teahouse (Wangye Temple with its teahouse). Inspired by Ba Jun Tu (八骏图), the horses symbolise strength, perseverance, momentum and success for the Year of the Horse. The surrounding display features over 10,000 plants, arranged in the style of classical Jiangnan gardens, complete with moon gates, pavilions, cascading water features and limestone rockery.
