Café Hisohiso is a hidden cafe located a 30-minute walk from Kintetsu Miminari Station. There is an old gate with a rabbit sign. Just past the gate is the cafe. As the name suggests, this cafe is hidden away in nature and serves cute baked goods and desserts. The interior of the cafe is decorated with dried flowers, creating a stylish space. This is a large shrine located in Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture. In fact, its history of construction is relatively recent, dating back to the Meiji Period. However, its origins date back to the distant past, to Emperor Jimmu, the first emperor of Japan. A petition from private citizens was filed on the site where Emperor Jimmu's palace is said to have stood, and Emperor Meiji, inspired by this petition, founded the shrine. Ofusa Kannon Temple in Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture, is currently hosting its "Lantern Festival" and "Autumn Rose Festival"! The temple grounds are adorned with over 2,000 colorful lanterns and approximately 4,000 roses of 3,800 varieties. 🌹 Ofusa Kannon Temple was founded in the Edo period. The temple grounds are surrounded by a pond called "Koigafuchi," where a Kannon statue riding a white turtle appeared. A small chapel was built in the pond and a Kannon shrine was built to honor the deity. 🐢 The person who encountered the Kannon statue at this time was none other than Ofusa. It's amazing that she, a local girl, is remembered in both the temple's name and the place's name! (Although the place name has been corrupted to "Ousa").) This year's autumn roses are reportedly delayed in blooming due to the extreme heat, but as of October 27th, they are beginning to bloom in small numbers. Be sure to check the official account for the latest updates! ☝️ Lanterns are also lit up several times a month. This month's event has already ended, but next month's schedule should be announced soon, so keep an eye out for official information! 😌 Limited-edition goshuin stamps are also available during the event. I received a rose goshuin stamp and a double-page lantern goshuin stamp. I love the stamps and the character designs, too! 🥰 Admission to the main hall costs 500 yen, but this year, the temple treasure, the "Three Thousand Buddhas Maitreya Bodhisattva Hanging Scroll," is on display for the first time in 20 years! Even if you usually only stroll around the temple grounds, this is a great opportunity to visit the hall. Also, the roads around the temple are very narrow, so if you're driving, it's safest to search for "Ofusa Kannon No. 2 Parking Lot" on your navigation system and head there. I sometimes see cars stuck there...😇 If the parking lot is full, ask the temple for nearby parking, or park in the paid parking lots near Unebi Station or Yamato-Yagi Station. Please refrain from waiting or parking on the side of the road, as it will cause inconvenience to the temple.☺️ Even though they've increased the number of days they're open to reduce crowds, it seems like a fair number of people still come on illumination days, so be careful if you're visiting by car.⚠️ It's not too far to walk from the nearest station, and the townscape along the highway is quite beautiful, so it's also nice to come by train and stroll around! Kintetsu Kashihara-Jingu-Mae Station, the terminal station in Minami-Wa, serves approximately 17,000 passengers daily. It's served by the Kashihara Line, Minami-Osaka Line, and Yoshino Line, and is popular among train enthusiasts for its standard-gauge and narrow-gauge service. 🚉 The concourse has a unique structure, as the original Osaka Electric Tramway (Kashihara Line), Osaka Railway (Minami-Osaka Line), and Yoshino Railway (Yoshino Line) were all combined into one station. 😯 The symbolic central station building, welcoming many visitors to Kashihara Shrine, was completed in 1940. It was built in conjunction with the expansion and renovation of Kashihara Shrine to commemorate the 2,600th anniversary of the founding of the Imperial Era. Designed by Togo Murano (1891-1984). He was a representative architect of the Showa era, and designed many buildings from the prewar and postwar periods, including the Nissay Theater (Tokyo, 1963). ✍️ Kintetsu was also a patron of Murano, commissioning him to design not only the Kashiharajingu-mae Station building, but also the Kintetsu Department Stores (Abeno Branch and Uehommachi Branch), the company's headquarters, and the Kashikojima Station building. If you're planning a trip to Nara in Kansai and are looking for an affordable hotel with comprehensive amenities and convenient transportation, this hotel located right next to Kashihara Station is definitely worth considering. 1️⃣ Excellent Value Weekday night stays start at around HK$300, and if you're an Accor member, booking during the "Red Hot House" promotion can get you rates as low as HK$250 per night. This price is truly exceptional value in the Kansai region of Japan. 2️⃣ Excellent Location The hotel is just 100 meters from the exit of Kashihara Station, less than a minute's walk away. From here, it's about half an hour to downtown Nara and about an hour to Namba and Shinsaibashi in Osaka, making it convenient for both sightseeing and transportation. 3️⃣ Facilities and Dining The hotel is not only affordable, but also offers excellent amenities. While the lounge is a bit basic, it does offer snacks and drinks, including alcohol and juice, so you can enjoy it after your evening onsen soak back at the hotel. The dinner buffet was over 9,000 yen per person, and I wouldn't recommend it without the 50% discount offered by the hotel membership. It's a bit pricey (even more than the room rate 😅), but the pictures show that the food was quite good, with Wagyu beef shabu-shabu and Asuka hot pot made with local Nara ingredients. The free breakfast was quite good. For a hotel in the early 200s, the buffet area was packed with options. The onsen isn't very large, consisting of an indoor pool about five or six meters long and wide and a sauna. However, there's a large onsen lounge outside with free cold water and plum juice. There's also free bicycle rental and self-service luggage lockers. Summary: For just a few hundred yen a night, this international chain hotel offers hot springs, a buffet breakfast, a drinks lounge, and convenient transportation. This shrine predates Kashihara Shrine and has been cherished by the locals of Kashihara for its blessings of abundant harvests and commercial prosperity. The shrine's main deities include Ukanomitama, the god of food, commonly known as Inari Okami; Toyouke-hime, also known as Toyouke Okami; and Omiyame, the goddess who safeguards the palace's peace. Nestled beside Fukada Pond and surrounded by dense trees, this modest and unassuming shrine is easy to miss. Unlike the grandeur of Kashihara Shrine, Nagayama Inari Shrine is understated yet revered for its spiritual efficacy, attracting a steady stream of worshippers. On the approach to the shrine, visitors may encounter a large pottery market showcasing exquisite ceramics from across Japan. Interestingly, Kashihara City has collaborated with the Street Fighter franchise, and sculptures inspired by the game can be found scattered around the streets. This is truly one of Nara's lesser-known temples, yet it holds a fascinating legend. In Japanese mythology, there is a celestial being named Kume Sennin who resided in Yamato. He practiced asceticism in the mountains and had the ability to fly. One day, while flying, he saw a woman washing clothes by the river and was momentarily captivated. This caused him to lose his divine powers, and he could no longer fly. From then on, he devoted himself to Buddhism at this location. Kume Sennin is said to be the founder of Kume-dera Temple. The temple enshrines Yakushi Nyorai (the Medicine Buddha) and is the 7th site among the 49 Saigoku Yakushi Sacred Sites. It is believed to have been established during the Asuka period, approximately 1,500 years ago. Another theory suggests that it was founded by Prince Yamashiro, the younger brother of Prince Shōtoku. Compared to other famous ancient temples in Nara, Kume-dera is understated and modest. However, its garden is currently in full bloom with azaleas. Interestingly, I encountered an injured cat here. It’s unclear if it belongs to the temple, but it stayed on the wooden floor in front of the temple, as if inspired by Yakushi Nyorai, quietly meditating in front of the hall. It is said that he was the youngest child of the mountain deity Hikohohodemi and the sea goddess's sister, Tamayorihime. Originally residing in Miyazaki Prefecture, he once told his brother that Miyazaki was not the center of Japan and set out to find it. This journey is famously known as the Jimmu Eastern Expedition. The center he discovered was in Kashihara, Nara. Another theory suggests that Emperor Jimmu was actually Xu Fu, who settled in Japan with young boys and girls. The similarities between the Jimmu Eastern Expedition and Xu Fu's settlement have intrigued historians, prompting further investigation. Speaking of Kashihara Shrine, it was initially built near Emperor Jimmu's tomb during the late Edo period. In 1922, the government funded the construction of the shrine, designed by Itō Chūta, a significant figure in Japanese architecture. While studying abroad was popular at the time, Itō chose to explore China, India, and Turkey, dedicating his life to researching traditional Japanese and Asian architecture. During the shrine's construction, over 70,000 trees were used, with more than 20,000 donated from across Japan. The shrine's grounds expanded to 1.22 million square meters, and over a million volunteers participated in the project. In addition to Kashihara Shrine, Itō Chūta also designed Heian Shrine and the now-demolished Jian Tan Taiwan Shrine. He believed that the transition from Western stone architecture to Eastern wooden architecture was significantly influenced by India. There is also a legend that Mount Unebi is likened to a woman👩, and Mount Miminari and Mount Kagu, likened to a man, fought over love. On the other hand, Fujiwara-kyo was the first full-scale capital of Japan, modeled after the Chinese capital Chang'an, and its historic site is a candidate for the next World Heritage Site🌎. 💞Reasons why we recommend it: I've always wanted to climb the Yamato Sanzan, the stage of ancient history. First, before climbing Mount Unebi, I went to Kashihara Shrine⛩️, the tomb of the first Emperor Jimmu. After walking along the quiet white sand pebble road, we headed to Mt. Unebi. We reached the summit in no time. Afterwards, we walked while feeling the early summer 🚶. We then went to Mt. Amanokagu, famous for the song "Spring has passed, and summer has come, the white clothes hang out to dry on Mt. Amanokagu." It feels like a very intellectual 🧐 culture. After that, on the way to Mt. Miminashi, we went to Fujiwara-kyo, the site of Japan's first full-scale capital. We also conquered Mt.
