Midongsan Arboretum, named after the mountain located to the east of Miwon-myeon, is home to 51 general and special gardens, including a rose garden, preserving and managing a total of 1,593 species and 310,000 plants. It operates free of charge, not only for residents of North Chungcheong Province but also for visitors from other regions, attracting numerous tourists annually. I visited to savor the last moments of autumn, but to my surprise...! The strong winds had blown off all the leaves 🥹 Still, holding onto hope, I ventured further inside, and as I approached the observatory, the autumn scenery of Midongsan Arboretum that I had been anticipating began to unfold. After passing the observatory and climbing a bit further, I found a fantastic photo spot while crossing a bridge, making it a satisfying outing 🤎 At first, I thought it was a mistake to come due to the barren appearance, but I ended up feeling it was absolutely worth the visit ☺️ The front area has already lost its leaves, so don't expect much there, but the back area is still beautiful. I went to Seoul, Korea over the three-day weekend in November. I was worried about whether it would be enjoyable with my kids, but a flight from Narita to Cheongju Airport was a bargain at ¥8,000 one way, so I decided to go. 🔷Points❣️ ⚫︎AeroK is an LCC. Seat selection fees are only a few hundred yen, which is very cheap compared to AirAsia and other airlines. Carry-on baggage up to 10kg is allowed. On-time and comfortable. No online check-in. Both the outbound and return flights to Narita were measured at the counter. ⚫︎Because there are few flights and Cheongju Airport itself is not crowded, the time from landing to exiting the airport is very short. On the other hand, transportation between Cheongju Airport and downtown Seoul is limited, so you'll need some buffer time for travel. ⚫︎Direct buses from Cheongju Airport to Seoul and the KTX from the nearest Osung Station sell out quickly, so you should book your tickets as soon as possible. ⚫︎WOWPASS is not available at Cheongju Airport. 🔷Transportation from Cheongju Airport to Seoul 🚌Bus ⚫︎There is a direct bus between Gangnam Express Bus Terminal and Cheongju Airport, taking 90 minutes. ⚫︎Tickets can be purchased online about two weeks in advance. It costs ¥1,800 one way. ⚫︎I tried to buy a ticket from Cheongju Airport to Gangnam two days after tickets went on sale, but it was sold out. 😿 I was able to successfully purchase the return flight with my Japanese credit card. 🚆Taxi + Train ⚫︎It took a 20-minute taxi ride from Cheongju Airport to Osong Station for 27,000 won. ⚫︎There were no taxis waiting at the airport, and even after calling Uber, I couldn't get one, so I worried I'd miss the train. 💦 ⚫︎The KTX from Osong Station to Seoul took 60 minutes and cost about ¥2,000. ⚫︎I purchased the KTX ticket from Trip.com about a week in advance. At this point, there were very few empty seats, and the train was so crowded that I had to stand when I boarded. Last time, I visited Darae Farm to see the yellow cosmos, and I noticed a section where pink muhly was planted. Today, with the sunny weather, I revisited Darae Farm, and the pink muhly was in full bloom, radiating a stunning pink hue. While the yellow cosmos that beautifully adorned Darae Farm in early September is gradually fading, you can still enjoy its beauty alongside the pink muhly. The combination creates a breathtaking 'half-and-half' flower field. Additionally, there is a small patch of buckwheat flowers planted outdoors, making it a lovely spot to enjoy their simple charm. Despite the strong sunlight, the shaded areas were refreshingly cool, making the Metasequoia walking trail a perfect choice for a stroll. The weather was ideal for sitting outdoors, so I used the outdoor grass table with Mei. Mei had a fantastic time running around and playing, making it a truly joyful day. Other pink muhly spots in Cheongju are still in the process of blooming for their best appearance. This time in Korea, we were pleasantly surprised by the supermarket's own brand, #Simplus. Firstly, the space is incredibly spacious, with larger aisles than typical convenience stores or mini-marts. It's completely stress-free, allowing you to leisurely browse with a cart, making it incredibly convenient for tourists or those shopping in bulk. What really captivated me was the buy-one-get-one-free promotion. Essentials like yogurt, seaweed, snacks, and even toothpaste were all covered in 1+1 labels, offering a wide selection and excellent prices. This promotion not only feels like a good deal, but it also makes you want to buy more to bring back to Taiwan as souvenirs. While the quality remains excellent, you can get them at a much lower price – a truly fantastic value. In short, Homeplus Supermarket impressed me with its spaciousness, ease of browsing, and excellent value. This honey tangbing shop is tucked away in a corner of Cheongju Central Park. On the first evening, I passed by and saw a long line in front of the shop. I passed by silently, completely ignoring the aroma. The next afternoon, I saw the line was even bigger than the day before, and I was puzzled. Isn't it just tangbing? Is it really that delicious? On the third morning, I slept too late and missed breakfast at the hotel. I wandered out to find something to eat and saw a crowd still thronging in front of this sugar pancake shop! So I sent my 40-year-old uncle to line up for breakfast... Sitting on a bench in Central Park, I waited in line for nearly 40 minutes before getting my hot sugar pancake. Luckily, there was a cheap coffee shop right next door. While I waited in line, I sipped my coffee, and two adorable cats kept coming to my feet to play coquettishly. The wait seemed so much shorter 😝 The waiter told me to hold the sugar pancake upside down for two minutes, otherwise the sugar and oil would drip onto my hands and burn me. The pancake was huge, and I took a bite. Wow! It was so crispy! There were no red beans inside, it was hollow, and the coffee was just the right sweetness. It was so delicious! I immediately regretted not buying ten pancakes at once. I could heat them up in a Taiwanese air fryer and have them as a great afternoon snack for the kids! 📢📢📢Important! Go to the pond on the other side of the bus and walk up the long stairs directly to Kongnammun Gate. Kongnammun Gate is the main gate of the fortress. You can get off the bus one stop before the bus and arrive at the picnic spot. This large expanse of grass is also a popular photo spot! You can also walk up to Kongnammun Gate from here! It's Negai, which opened in June. 🤍 My mother ran a coffee franchise for 10 years, so she's very interested in coffee and loves going out to try delicious coffee. So, when I take my mom to a cafe, I always carefully check reviews to see what the coffee tastes like. Negai also runs a roastery, so even though I've been a coffee shop owner for 10 years, I can't describe the coffee flavor, but even I, a coffee connoisseur, thought the coffee was delicious!
