Checking in at the Hill Aerospace Museum! Unlike typical manufacturer-led aviation museums, this one sits right next to Hill Air Force Base (Hill AFB), so you’ll find retired pilots volunteering here. I told one of them he had a really cool job, which gave him a good laugh. ❓ What makes it special? Hill AFB is a vital U.S. Air Force base located south of Ogden and north of Salt Lake City. Its primary missions include the maintenance, modernization, and logistics for aircraft, particularly fighter jets. The base has long been tied to major programs like the F-35A and F-16 and serves as a key operations hub for the F-35. 🚶 The Experience: Pic 1: The SR-71 Blackbird—a total crowd-pleaser! There was a huge group of kids gathered around it; Pic 2 & 3: Saw the active-duty F-22 and the F-15. The latter is a vintage beast, currently only deployed at U.S. bases in Japan; Pic 4: The "Candy Bomber"—it’s actually a transport plane famous for dropping food and supplies to Berlin citizens during the 1948 Berlin Airlift; Pic 5: The massive ammunition carried by the A-10 Warthog; Pic 6: The F-117A Nighthawk stealth fighter. I caught a distant glimpse of one at the Pima Air & Space Museum’s restoration yard in Arizona earlier this year, but this time I saw it up close. This is also the model used in the 1999 bombing of the Chinese Embassy in Yugoslavia. You can also walk underneath the B-29 bomber to see the bomb bay, and there are several ICBMs and atomic bombs on display. There are three indoor galleries plus a few aircraft parked outside. It’s not a massive facility, and you can finish the tour in about two hours. The collection focuses heavily on U.S. military models, making it quite unique (the only foreign plane is a MiG-17 from Poland). For instance, they have the F-22, which is missing from the collection at Pima. 💸 Admission is free.

Here’s a quick guide to my adventure from Diyarbakir to Scipio — blending ancient history, local eats, and a touch of hidden gem vibes 🚗✨ Top Spots to Visit in Scipio: · Scipio Town Museum (Address: 450 E Center St, Open 10 AM–4 PM): Start with this cozy local museum showcasing pioneer history and quirky artifacts. It’s small but packed with charm — do chat with the docents for fun local facts! · Jurupa Mountain Discovery Center (good for nature lovers, address reference: 7624 Jurupa Rd, Open 8 AM–5 PM): Great spot for a stroll and dino rock garden snapshots. · Garr Ranch (Address: 1200 Antelope Island Rd, Open 9 AM–5 PM): Experience the old ranch vibes, get up close to bison if you’re lucky, and enjoy the serene setting — bring water as facilities here are minimal! My practical tip: Always have cash on hand in small towns like Scipio. ATMs can be scarce and some shops are still “cash only.” I also found Google Maps walking directions a bit unreliable — ask a local for the fastest walking route to avoid random “no sidewalk” detours. How to Get Around: The easiest hack: rent a compact car in Diyarbakir and drive to Scipio. It gives you more freedom to roam and see roadside spots. If you’re on foot, plan your stops wisely and use local buses where possible (times are unpredictable). Food Recommendations: Try the homemade pies at the Scipio Cafe (245 US-50, try the cherry!) and grab a shake at the Station Snack Bar nearby — classic, unfussy, and perfectly local. Destination Tips: Weather swings quickly, pack a light jacket. No visa stress for short stays but keep a copy of your passport handy. #ScipioAdventures #LocalTravel #HiddenGems #TravelTips

🚙 Road Trip to Antelope Island State Park – A Summer Escape Near SLC 🏞️ At the end of June, we took a spontaneous road trip to Antelope Island State Park, just a short drive from Salt Lake City—and wow, what an underrated gem! 🛣️ Getting There From downtown Salt Lake City, it took us less than an hour by car. The drive itself was smooth and scenic, especially once we hit the long causeway that connects the mainland to the island. You’re literally driving across the Great Salt Lake—surreal and peaceful. 🏕️ Where We Stayed We stayed in a nearby Airbnb in Syracuse, just 15 minutes from the park entrance. It was super convenient and gave us quick access to food and supplies. You can also camp on the island if you're up for more adventure and want to catch sunrise/sunset right from your tent. 🍔 Food & Supplies There’s a small visitor center with some basics, but we recommend packing snacks, water, and maybe a picnic. We grabbed some takeout in town before heading in—there aren’t many options once you’re on the island, and you’ll want to focus on soaking in the views anyway. 🌅 Scenery & Wildlife The scenery was absolutely breathtaking. Rolling hills, salty shoreline, wide open skies, and that golden Utah glow in the evening—perfect for photos or just taking it all in. We saw bison, antelopes, and even a few pelicans. The wildlife roams freely, which made everything feel wild and raw in the best way. The trails were easy to moderate, and you can drive, hike, or even bike around. We caught sunset at Buffalo Point—highly recommend! 🧘 How It Felt It honestly felt like we were in a different world—peaceful, quiet, and far from the city rush, even though it was so close. That mix of desert, lake, and wildlife made it feel really special. One of those rare places where time slows down. ✅ Final Thoughts If you're in Salt Lake City or even just passing through, Antelope Island is 100% worth a visit. It's a perfect day trip or weekend getaway where you can recharge, reconnect with nature, and see a side of Utah that’s totally unique. Bring sunscreen, water, and a camera—and just go. You won’t regret it. #RoadTripUtah #AntelopeIsland #GreatSaltLake #NatureEscape #HiddenGem #SaltLakeCityAdventures #WildUtah

#cityplaybook Salt Lake City surprised me in all the best ways. I came for the mountains, but I stayed for the mix of nature, culture, and unexpectedly warm vibes. Nestled between the towering Wasatch Range and the mysterious Great Salt Lake, this city is the perfect playground for both outdoor lovers and curious explorers. One of my favorite memories was hiking the Ensign Peak Trail just before sunset. It’s a short but steep climb with a huge reward—panoramic views over the city, the lake glowing in the distance, and the sun melting into the horizon. The air was cool, the skies were clear, and for a moment, everything felt completely still. Another standout experience was visiting the Bonneville Salt Flats—an otherworldly stretch of blinding white that feels more like Mars than Earth. Walking across the cracked salt crust, with miles of uninterrupted space around me, was surreal and humbling. It’s just a 2-hour drive from the city and absolutely worth the trip. Downtown Salt Lake offers a different kind of charm. I spent hours exploring Temple Square, admiring the gothic spires of the Salt Lake Temple and learning about the city’s fascinating roots in the LDS Church. The streets are clean, spacious, and lined with great cafés, local shops, and some seriously underrated food spots (try the fry sauce!). Best time to visit? I’d say late spring (May-June) or early fall (September-October)—when the weather is perfect for hiking, biking, or just wandering. Winter is stunning too, especially if you ski; Park City and Snowbird are less than an hour away and boast some of the best powder in the world. Helpful tips: Rent a car if you plan to explore beyond downtown. And don’t miss Antelope Island State Park—you might spot wild bison roaming with the Salt Lake as your backdrop!
