Daming travel guide and discussion

🌙 My Favourite Return Trip: Daming Food Street Never Disappoints 🍢✨ If you’re looking for a spot that’s always popping off, Daming Food Street is the ultimate vibe check. I swear, every time I roll up, it’s like the street just throws open its arms and says, “Welcome baaaack.” 🤗✨ This place never gets old—there’s always something new, plus your OG favourites ready to fire up your cravings. The food variety here is literally next level. From classic Fuzhou eats to other Asian street snacks, you’ll be on a flavor journey that never stops. Noodles, oysters, dumplings—take your pick and then try something wild you’ve never had before. You could hit up Daming Food Street a dozen times and STILL find new treats to obsess over. 🍜🦪🥟 One of the best things???? The prices are seriously chill. No need to stress about your wallet; the portions are generous and you can snack your way through the street without breaking the bank. Score! 🤑 That means more foodie freedom to eat what you want, when you want. Living the dream, tbh. Just wrapped up another epic night here and already making notes for what to try on my next visit—because yeah, I’m that obsessed. If you’re in Fuzhou, you *have* to check it out in person. Trust me, you’ll end up coming back again and again just for the vibes. 🙌 📍 Daming Food Street Daming Road, Gulou District, Fuzhou, Fujian, China 🇨🇳 🕒 Most stalls open daily from 5:00 PM till late

Every journey leaves a trace—a story, an emotion, a moment🎑 For me, these are postcards. Each one contains a piece of the journey, shots from different corners of China, moments you won't want to forget. Just paper? Maybe. But for me, it's a piece of home🥺 #china #chinatravels #postcards #visitchina #travel #collection #china #postcards

Focus on a slow-paced, fatigue-free trip. Cover downtown historical architecture, 5A mountains, grottoes, and ancient cities. Perfect for off-peak sightseeing and cultural relaxation. Note: Actual ticket prices, bus schedules, and costs may vary; some attractions are spread out, so plan accordingly; manage expectations to avoid over-idealization. 🗺️ 7-day relaxed itinerary (focus on not rushing; flexible and customizable) · Day 1 Downtown leisure: Congtai Park > Handan Road > Xuebu Bridge > Handan Museum > Meile City. Attractions are concentrated to avoid rushing. Allow half a day each for the museum and park. Visit Handan Road/Meile City at night to see the lights and avoid crowds · Day 2-3 Shexian County · Wahuang Palace (5A): Take the 6423 green-skin train (departs Handan at 7:55 AM, arrives in Shexian at 10:32 AM; ticket price approx. 14.5 CNY). Book in advance to avoid sell-outs > Take a Didi to the scenic area to avoid detours > Shuttle bus to the mountain base > Hike 1+ hour to the summit (The Temple of the Ancestor of China/a "budget version" of the Hanging Temple; manage visual expectations, focus on hiking and paying respects, watch out for heights/slippery paths). Return: Take a local bus or the 4:45 PM train to avoid missing your ride; eat lunch in the county town to avoid price markups · Day 4 Fengfeng · Xiangtangshan Grottoes: Round-trip bus ride is <2 hours; bring motion sickness medication > Visit South Xiangtang (smaller) then North Xiangtang (larger) to avoid rushing; use Didi for transfers between them to avoid waiting > Take the K5 bus back (approx. 1 hour) to avoid fatigue · Day 5 Yongnian · Guangfu Ancient City (5A): Round-trip bus ride is approx. 1 hour to avoid crowds > The moat offers shade; manage expectations regarding the "sameness" of ancient cities. Since it's famous, you can choose to swap it for Daming Ancient City if you want to avoid aesthetic fatigue · Day 6-7 Extension (add if time permits): Jingniang Lake/East Taihang/Guwudang Mountain (natural mountains; allow 1-2 days to avoid physical exhaustion); or visit Anyang (allow 2 days to avoid rushing; keep the overall 7-day trip compact to avoid feeling overwhelmed) ✨ Core experiences and off-peak tips · Photo spots: Wear plain colors or Hanfu at Congtai historical buildings to avoid dark backgrounds; shoot with the light at Wahuang Palace's hanging walkway to avoid backlighting/fog obscuring the view; no flash at Xiangtangshan Grottoes to protect artifacts; shoot with the light at Guangfu moat in the evening to avoid backlighting · Off-peak rhythm: Take early buses in suburban counties to avoid lines; book bus/train tickets early for holidays to avoid anxiety; focus on a slow pace to avoid fatigue · Travel rhythm: Leave extra time to avoid missing transfers; carry water to stay hydrated; don't try to visit every single spot to avoid exhaustion 🍜 Local food and supplies 1. Recommended flavors: Ask for prices before ordering simple meals in the county/downtown to avoid markups; bring snacks and a water bottle as supplies in suburban areas may be limited 2. Payment: Mobile payment is standard, but carry cash in case of weak signals in remote areas or if buses don't provide change 🎒 Essential travel items 1. Protection: Plain/bright clothing (for great photos at historical sites), high-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, sun hat/small umbrella, non-slip flat shoes/sneakers (for hiking/stone paths to prevent slipping), light jacket (for valley breezes/cold AC), trekking poles/knee braces (for Wahuang Palace/East Taihang to reduce knee strain) 2. Equipment: High-capacity power bank, phone with image stabilization for low-light shots, lens cloth to prevent dust 3. Safety/Eco-friendly: Watch for slippery steps on walkways/grottoes; do not cross railings or climb restricted areas; no graffiti, flash photography, or taking fragments in artifact areas; use a crossbody bag to prevent theft; carry basic medication for sprains/motion sickness/stomach issues/allergies; take all trash with you; respect merchants/tourists to avoid conflicts 💡 Practical tips 1. Transportation: Suburban attractions are spread out; driving or chartering a car is recommended to avoid transfer fatigue; check bus/train schedules in advance to avoid cancellations/changes; download offline maps for weak signal areas; ask about parking fees to avoid misunderstandings 2. Off-peak photography: Be courteous on hanging walkways/narrow grotto paths/ancient bridges to avoid crowding; stay focused while taking photos to avoid tripping or falling into water 3. Avoiding traps/Etiquette: Clarify refund/change policies for tickets/shuttles to avoid disputes; ask for prices at ancient city shops to avoid markups; dress appropriately at religious/worship sites to avoid conflicts 4. Travel rhythm: Leave extra time in your 7-day plan to avoid fatigue; adjust mountain routes based on your stamina to avoid overexertion; keep the whole trip relaxed to avoid anxiety Standing on the hanging eaves of Wahuang Palace, watching the wind blend the ancient charm of Congtai, the stone carvings of Xiangtangshan, and the moat water of Guangfu into the slow time of Handan—this 7-day cultural and mountain getaway offers the ultimate relaxation and depth. The bluestone slabs have held 600 years of footprints; in this golden autumn, I have come to keep my date with Daming. Walking slowly along the Ming city wall, the four gates of Ren, Yi, Li, and Zhi still bear 600 years of history. Beneath the bluestone slabs underfoot, the old shadows of the Northern Song dynasty auxiliary capital remain hidden. The inscriptions on the Wuliji Stele still carry the lingering warmth of the Tang Dynasty, and the ancient cypresses at the Di Gong Temple continue to whisper stories of the past in the wind. Walking deeper along the bluestone street, the "High Hanging Bright Mirror" plaque at the ancient county government office still exudes the dignity of the past. Turn around, and the lights and shadows of the Metaverse district blend thousand-year-old stories into modern illumination. The aroma of the Jihui Night Market drifts through the streets; the savory scent of Er'mao roast chicken and the rich, clear aroma of stone-ground sesame oil, mixed with the textured warmth of straw weaving, intertwine history with the vibrancy of daily life. The evening breeze sweeps over the battlements, and the distant lights blend with the shadows of ancient locust trees. The thousand-year-old Daming Prefecture is half a strategic fortress from history books, and half the vivid, living world beneath my feet right now. 📌 Travel Tips Climbing the city wall for sunrise offers a wide view; remember to bring a light layer as early autumn mornings are cool The Stone Carving Museum and Di Renjie Temple Stele are free to visit; scan the code for an AR tour The Jihui Night Market gets crowded in the evening; consider visiting off-peak to enjoy Daming's local delicacies The ancient city streets are crisscrossed; we recommend wearing comfortable, soft-soled shoes

Trip.com Note | Handan 3-Day 2-Night Comprehensive Guide | 650 per person, discover the 3,000-year-old ancient capital of idioms🔥 Main Content Handan, a city that hasn't changed its name in over 3,000 years✨! "Carrying thorns to ask for forgiveness," "Walking in Handan," "A dream of millet," "Wearing Hu-style clothes and shooting arrows"... the idioms from your textbooks all come to life here. It's not overly commercialized, prices are friendly, the pace is relaxed—highly recommended for weekend getaways, family trips, and history buffs! I've personally tested and organized this efficient, no-detour itinerary. 🚗Transportation & Accommodation ✅Transportation: High-speed rail goes directly to Handan East Station. Within the city, shared bikes and buses are super convenient; buses cost 1–2 yuan, and short taxi rides are very cheap. For the outlying Guangfu Ancient City, you can carpool or drive yourself. ✅Accommodation Recommendation: Congtai District, near Congtai Park and Handan Road. It's convenient for dining and sightseeing, with many hotel options and great value. 📅3-Day Itinerary Day 1: Downtown Idiom & Culture Route Handan Museum (Free❗ Advance reservation required, closed on Mondays; check out the viral Smiling Arhat and Warring States bronze horse) → Congtai Park (Free admission, 5 yuan to climb Congtai, the parade platform where King Wuling of Zhao practiced archery in Hu-style clothing) → Huiche Lane (Site of the "General and Prime Minister" story, ancient alley lanterns) → Xuebu Bridge (Origin of the "Walking in Handan" idiom, free ancient bridge) → Evening: Night tour of Handan Road to see the ancient street night views Day 2: Northern Water City | Guangfu Ancient City Day Trip Guangfu Ancient City (Free entry, 20 yuan to climb the city wall), a northern water city and home of Tai Chi. Visit the former residence of Yang Luchan and Hongji Bridge, walk along the ancient city wall, and see the reeds in the moat. Have local specialties for lunch in the ancient city, and return to the city center in the evening. Day 3: Historical Sites + Final Shopping & Dining Huangliangmeng Lüxian Temple (Origin of the "A dream of millet" idiom) → Visit Meile City, buy souvenirs, and head home 🍜Must-Try Handan Food (Recommended by locals) ✅Guoba Huoshao (Guoba baked flatbread): 32 layers of flaky crust, amazing with donkey meat ✅Ermao Roast Chicken, Wubaiju Sausage (Daming 258, a Handan signature) ✅Guangfu Crispy Fish: The fish bones are tender and crispy, you can eat them directly ✅Doumo (bean porridge) + Jidan Budai (egg pocket) | Traditional Handan breakfast ✅Cizhou Menzi, Yilouyou Dumplings Snack Tips: For authentic food, don't just stick to tourist spots; old shops in the city center offer better value. ⚠️Key Tips to Avoid Pitfalls (Trip.com users love this section) 1. Museum Reservation: Handan Museum is free, but you must book in advance. It is closed on Mondays, so don't make a wasted trip. 2. Guangfu Ancient City Tips: Entry to the ancient city is free; only climbing the city wall and visiting small exhibition halls require separate fees. Don't just hop on the horse-drawn carriages in the ancient city; they are overpriced, and walking is sufficient. 3. Handan Road Ancient Street: The night view is beautiful, but street-side cultural and creative products are overpriced. For souvenirs, prioritize old shops in the city center. 4. Specialty Tips: Don't buy overpriced vacuum-packed gift boxes of roast chicken or sausage at tourist spots. Old, established shops in the city center have more authentic flavors and better prices. 5. The ancient city streets have many stone paths, so be sure to wear comfortable flat shoes to avoid foot fatigue during long walks. 6. Spring and autumn are the best times to visit. Summers are very hot, and it's windy around the Taihang Mountains, so be prepared with sun protection. Tags

A thousand years ago, this was a secondary capital of the Northern Song Dynasty, bustling with merchants. Today, with its green bricks and gray tiles and few tourists, just walking through the alleys feels like traveling back in time 🎬 🍂 How to explore during the day: Start by strolling in from the East Gate (Tiren Gate). The stained glass of the Gothic Catholic Church is stunning in the sunlight—every photo you take will look like a masterpiece. Climb a section of the Ming City Wall to see the entire old city laid out at your feet, with the high-rises of the new city in the distance. The contrast between the old and new is truly atmospheric. The D6 Cultural and Creative Street and the Confucian Temple are rarely crowded, making them perfect spots to sit back and relax. 🌃 The nights are even better: On Friday and Saturday nights, the digital light show at the North Gate's urn city begins, illuminating the city walls with projections and instantly transporting you back to a Northern Song night market. The vibrant atmosphere of the Jihui Night Market is the main event. Feast on roast chicken, shaomai, and meat pies as you walk through, and head back to your hotel with a full belly 😋 🛏️ Accommodation tips It's common to stay in the ancient city until 9:00 or 10:00 PM, so driving back to the city center isn't worth the hassle. With Xilinmen zero-pressure mattresses and whole-house smart voice control, you'll fall asleep the moment your head hits the pillow. The next day, you can recharge at the Caisangzi buffet breakfast restaurant. I'm back from Handan now, and I really don't recommend going in October or November, because it's just 😭 This is the honest truth! No exaggeration or bias! Handan is truly a historic city in Hebei with a rich cultural heritage spanning thousands of years! It boasts a strong sense of being the birthplace of Chinese idioms, profound ancient architecture, magnificent Taihang Mountains, affordable prices, and a heartwarming atmosphere! Spring and summer are lush and tranquil, and the autumn leaves in early October are absolutely stunning—perfect for a small-scale cultural trip! But having just returned, I sincerely advise everyone: Do NOT rush to Handan in October or November without proper preparation!! It's not that Handan isn't beautiful, it's that the chances of a disappointing trip during this season are extremely high, drastically diminishing the overall experience! Autumn colors have completely faded, the mountains are frosty and bitterly windy, attractions are extremely scattered, darkness falls very quickly, many venues are closed on Mondays, and there are rampant overcharging and hidden fees. Ordinary tourists who blindly go will likely end up exhausted from the journey, have no good photos, suffer from the cold, and have a completely unremarkable trip! Here's a super-realistic, hands-on guide to avoiding pitfalls in Handan during October and November, covering reasons why you shouldn't go, a streamlined itinerary, and everything from transportation and food to accommodation. Ready to go? Just copy this! ❌Why is October and November truly not recommended for visiting Handan? 1. Autumn scenery completely fades, the most awkward and desolate period of the year Handan's peak beauty lasts only a short ten days in early October for the red leaves! From late October to November, all the red leaves in the mountains have fallen. The areas around Dongtaihang and Xiangtangshan are left with only withered branches, the forests bare and lacking any sense of depth. There's no vibrant autumn color, no autumn atmosphere. The ancient streets in the city are deserted, with a monotonous and gloomy color scheme. There's neither the tranquility of spring and summer nor the stunning autumn scenery. Sisters who specifically came for the autumn scenery of Taihang and the ancient-style autumn photos will be 100% disappointed. 2. Temperature drops sharply on the mountain cliffs, frost and strong winds are unbearable From October to November, Handan plunges into winter in an instant! The city is cool and dry, while the Taihang Mountains experience frost and freezing temperatures in the mornings and evenings. The mountains are swept by fierce winds with extremely penetrating cold. The temperature difference between day and night is enormous; a sweatshirt is just right during the day, but it freezes instantly in the evening. Tourists from the south simply cannot withstand this dry and cold onslaught. Climbing the mountain is a constant experience of being exposed to the wind and cold, resulting in icy hands and feet and a high risk of catching a cold or getting a headache. The air is extremely dry, leading to chapped mouth and nose, and peeling skin, making the trip very uncomfortable. 3. Dense fog + complex road conditions cause major disruptions at scenic spots. Dense fog and fog are common in the mountains during autumn and winter. The summit of the Eastern Taihang Mountains is often shrouded in white fog, obscuring the magnificent mountain views. The Xiangtangshan Grottoes are shrouded in heavy fog, resulting in dim lighting. The ancient buildings and stone carvings lose all their atmosphere, making for unusable photos. Some mountain roads are closed for construction in autumn and winter, and signage is often unclear. Tourists easily get lost and take unnecessary detours, wasting time and energy. 4. The attractions are scattered across different districts, making independent travel a nightmare. Handan is a typical example of a dispersed tourist city. City center: Congtai Park, Handan Road, Xuebu Bridge, Museum Suburbs: Guangfu Ancient City, Wa Huang Palace, Xiangtangshan Grottoes, East Taihang Mountains All attractions are located across different districts and counties, with a minimum travel time of one hour. Mountain bus services are extremely limited, with very early last buses and complicated transfers. Independent travelers have virtually no direct transportation options, requiring expensive chartered or shared rides. A two- or three-day trip will be mostly spent on the road, making it a true test of endurance. Motion sickness, laziness, and traveling with children or elderly people are strongly discouraged. 5. A major area for closed-off tourist attractions! Monday: Completely Closed All museums, grottoes, and cultural exhibition halls in Handan are closed on Mondays. Many tourists travel long distances, completely unaware of the time, only to find the exhibition halls closed, disrupting their itineraries. There are already few activities available in autumn and winter, and after closures, there are basically no major attractions. 6. Popular tourist attractions are extremely underwhelming and offer very low value for money. Xuebu Bridge only has a landmark stone tablet. A quick visit takes only a few minutes; there's nothing of substance or atmosphere, making it completely not worth a special trip. Handan Zoo has outdated facilities, few animal species, and poor hygiene. Most animals are dormant in autumn and winter, making it very unwatchable. Xiangtang Water Town has many shops closed in autumn and winter, resulting in sparse crowds and a desolate atmosphere. Its appeal is greatly reduced, and there are no photo opportunities. 7. Unlicensed guides and low-price tours are rampant. Unlicensed guides are rampant at the entrances of Wa Huang Palace and Guangfu Ancient City. They lure tourists with low-priced explanations, but then fabricate stories and force-feed cultural and creative jade products. Low-priced day tours are all shopping tours, pushing tourists to spend money throughout. Horse-drawn carriages and private car rentals in scenic areas have chaotic pricing, arbitrary markups, and withholding of deposits. They specifically target inexperienced out-of-town tourists, with numerous hidden costs. 8. Autumn and winter amenities are scarce, and prices are severely inflated during holidays. From October to November, many farmhouses and snack shops around scenic areas close. Dining options are extremely limited, with only simple meals available. Mountain guesthouses have unstable heating, are damp and dry, and offer a poor living experience. Prices double on weekends and during remaining holidays. High prices for low-quality accommodations, a complete collapse in value for money, and not worth the ticket price or room rate. ✅Handan's comprehensive guide to avoiding pitfalls in October and November 🚗Transportation avoidance guide 1. Prioritize Handan Station by high-speed rail; it's very close to city attractions and offers the most hassle-free travel. 2. For remote Taihang Mountain scenic areas and ancient city areas, self-driving/licensed carpooling is preferred; public transportation is impractical. 3. Mountain roads are frost-covered and slippery in autumn and winter, with many sections closed. Avoid driving at night and taking unauthorized routes. 4. Absolutely refuse unlicensed taxis, low-priced day tours, and private horse-drawn carriage rentals within scenic areas. 5. Avoid traveling on Mondays! Avoid Mondays! All cultural and historical venues are closed. 🏞️Must-Visit Attractions|Autumn/Winter Recommended Itinerary Handan Museum (Top choice for indoor activities in autumn and winter ✅) Completely unaffected by weather! The museum boasts a rich collection, fully unlocking Handan's millennia-old idiom culture and Northern Qi Dynasty grotto civilization. Quiet and less crowded, with a comfortable, constant temperature, and free to explore. ⚠️Avoid Mondays and make online reservations in advance to avoid disappointment. Congtai Park + Handan Road Historical District: A tranquil spot in the heart of the city. Antique charm, a peaceful oasis amidst the hustle and bustle. No need to rush; take a leisurely stroll and unwind. Surrounded by attractions, no long journeys required. Simply wander through the ancient streets and alleys to experience the vibrant atmosphere of the old city. Guangfu Ancient City: Quiet and less crowded in autumn and winter, less commercialized. Original ancient city scenery, with gentle, easy-to-walk city wall paths. No need to walk the entire way; cycling is a great option. Avoid roadside souvenir vendors and private guides; a purely independent trip is the most cost-effective. Xiangtangshan Grottoes: A quick visit on cloudy or foggy days, no climbing required. Deeply rooted in history and culture, with rich stone carvings and ancient architecture. No restaurants within the scenic area; bring your own drinking water and snacks. Consider buying a sightseeing bus to save energy; hiking uphill with no shade is extremely tiring. East Taihang Mountains/Nuwa Palace: Not recommended for a special trip in October-November. Autumn scenery fades, strong winds and frost, frequent fog. Most likely you'll only see fog, not mountains, making it very poor value for money. Skip if you're short on time. Xuebu Bridge: Quick stop for a quick check-in; no time allotted. This is just a landmark stone tablet; no other attractions, to avoid wasting your trip. 🗺️Relaxing Itinerary for 3 Days 2 Nights (Suitable for October-November, no rushing, no must-see spots) Day 1: Arrive at Handan Station →In-depth exhibition at Handan Museum → Leisurely stroll through Congtai Park and Handan Road at night Day 2: Relax and unwind at Guangfu Ancient City → Enjoy local delicacies and rest Day 3: Brief visit to Xiangtangshan Grottoes → Shop for affordable local specialties in the city → Return trip 🍜Handan Food | Local favorites that won't disappoint ✅Must-try Hebei Handan specialties: Yongnian donkey meat rolls, Handan pulled noodles, big pot stew, pork cracklings, crispy pork, sesame flatbread ❌Hardcore recommendations to avoid: 1. 1. **Restaurants near scenic areas often have inflated prices, small portions, and perfunctory taste.** 2. **Authentic local cuisine is found in long-established restaurants in the city's residential areas; they are affordable, plentiful, and frequented by locals.** 3. **Be cautious when buying souvenir gift boxes from scenic areas; they are overpriced and of mediocre quality.** 4. **During the dry autumn and winter, avoid salty and oily foods and drink plenty of water to prevent getting a sore throat.** 🏨 **Ultimate Accommodation Tips:** ✅ **Top Choice:** Hotels in the city center of Handan District and Congtai District. Stable heating, dry and comfortable, convenient transportation, easy access to restaurants and shopping. Mature amenities, not remote, and consistently good value. ❌ **Avoid:** Guesthouses in remote suburban ancient towns or at the foot of the Taihang Mountains. Cold and dry, unstable heating, poor amenities, exorbitant prices, and a hassle to travel to. 🎒 **Essential Checklist for October-November Travel:** 1. **Clothing:** Sweater + thick down jacket/windproof jacket; essential for protection against the cold in mountainous areas. 2. **Non-slip sneakers!** 3. Mountain roads are frost-covered and slippery; avoid slipping and falling. 4. Highly moisturizing lotion and lip balm are essential, as autumn and winter are extremely dry. 5. Always carry an umbrella, as mountain weather is unpredictable. 6. Book exhibition halls in advance and avoid Mondays when they are closed to avoid wasted trips. 💡Finally, a word of truth: Handan's millennia-old cultural heritage, its ancient city charm, and the majestic Taihang Mountains truly make it worth a special trip! It's a quiet, less-traveled, and culturally rich city with a soothing pace; it's Hebei's most understated treasure. However, October and November are truly the least suitable time of year for a dedicated trip to Handan. Autumn scenery fades, the landscape is bleak and lacks vibrancy, temperatures are low and windy, travel is tiring, many attractions are closed, and the experience is monotonous. It's only suitable for culture enthusiasts, short layovers, and those seeking a relaxed getaway. Early October is the golden time to visit Handan! Red leaves blanket the mountains, the weather is crisp and clear, the scenery is breathtaking, and the atmosphere is immersive – this is the right way to experience it! ✨ I've already returned from Handan, and I really don't recommend going in October or November because it's just...😭 This is the honest truth from the bottom of my heart! No exaggeration or bias! Handan is truly a millennium-old city in Hebei with a rich cultural heritage! It boasts a strong idiom-based atmosphere, profound ancient architecture, magnificent Taihang Mountains, affordable prices, and a healing atmosphere with its lively street life! Spring and summer are lush and tranquil, and early October's red leaves are absolutely stunning – perfect for a small-scale cultural trip! But having just returned, I sincerely advise everyone: Do NOT rush to Handan in October or November without proper preparation!! It's not that Handan isn't beautiful, it's just that the chances of a disappointing trip during this season are extremely high, and the overall experience will be significantly diminished! Autumn colors have completely faded, the mountains are freezing cold with biting winds, attractions are scattered, darkness falls rapidly, many venues are closed on Mondays, leaving visitors empty-handed, and overpriced and misleading advertising is rampant. Ordinary tourists who blindly flock to Handan are likely to be exhausted from the journey, have nothing to photograph, suffer from the cold, and have a completely unremarkable trip! Here's a super-realistic, test-based guide to avoiding pitfalls in Handan during October and November, covering reasons why it's not recommended, a streamlined itinerary, and comprehensive information on transportation, food, and accommodation. Just copy this guide before you go! ❌Why is October and November truly not recommended for visiting Handan? 1. Autumn colors have completely faded, the most awkward and desolate period of the year. Handan's peak beauty only lasts for a short ten days or so in early October for the red leaves! Late October – November: All the autumn leaves in the mountains have fallen. The area around the Eastern Taihang Mountains and Xiangtang Mountain is left with only withered branches, the forests bare and lacking any sense of color or depth. There are no vibrant autumn foliage, no autumnal atmosphere. The ancient streets of the city are deserted, their greenery withered, their colors monotonous and gloomy. There is neither the tranquility of spring and summer nor the breathtaking beauty of autumn. Sisters who specifically came for photos of the Taihang Mountains' autumn scenery and traditional autumn landscapes will be 100% disappointed. 2. The mountain cliffs experience a sudden drop in temperature, with frost and strong winds causing immense suffering. From October to November, Handan plunges into winter in an instant! Fukuoka is a true curry heaven! I finally made it to the Ogusu branch of Kubo Curry, a place I’ve been eyeing for a while. Exterior The outside looks just like an apartment building! Heads up: the parking directly in front isn't for the restaurant, so you'll need to use a nearby paid lot. Kubo Curry I heard they recently opened a location in Daimyo, but I really wanted to check out the original vibe here in Ogusu. Interior The shop has both standard tables and traditional low tables on tatami mats. I love the retro, Showa-era atmosphere. Menu They keep it simple with just two options: the "Daily Special" and the "Regular Plate." Today’s special was Pork Vindaloo, while the Regular Plate is a combo of their signature runny chicken curry and a chicken-burdock keema. Being my first time, I went with the classic Regular Plate. The Regular Plate This runny chicken curry is absolutely phenomenal! It’s a thin, broth-like curry where the sweetness of the onions and the savory chicken umami are perfectly balanced with simple spices. It has a slow-building heat that’s really satisfying. The chicken-burdock keema on the side also offers a deep, complex flavor with a gentle spice profile. So good! Extra Cilantro I ordered a side of extra cilantro, and it arrived in its own little bowl. Mixing a generous amount of fresh greens into that thin curry adds a wonderful crunch and flavor. I’d love to try the Daimyo branch next time since this one is a bit of a trek. Fukuoka has such an amazing curry scene. I feel like I eat curry every time I visit, yet there are still so many places left on my list! When visiting Daming in Handan, many people wander through the ancient city and admire its walls. But you might not know: The Daming ancient city you see today is not the legendary "Beijing Daming Mansion" of the past. Yes, during the Northern Song Dynasty, Daming was officially known as "Beijing." In 1042, Emperor Renzong designated Daming Mansion as a secondary capital. Back then, Daming was a major political, military, and commercial hub in northern China. But in 1401, a catastrophic flood changed everything. The Zhang and Wei Rivers overflowed, burying the old Daming Mansion under layers of silt. Instead of rebuilding on the original site, people chose a new location for their city. This is why Daming has two ancient cities today. One is the Ming-Qing era city where you can still walk today. The other lies deep beneath Dajie Town—the ruins of the Northern Song Daming Mansion. Even more interestingly, archaeological findings reveal that the old city featured a triple-walled structure—outer, inner, and palace cities—resembling the Chinese character "回" (Hui). A once-thriving metropolis now lies silent beneath the earth. Meanwhile, just a few kilometers away, life continues in the other Daming city, with its bustling shops, streets, and crowds. One flood turned a city into history, while giving birth to a new story for another. Perhaps the most fascinating thing about Daming isn't just the walls standing before you. It's also that invisible "Beijing Daming Mansion" that still remains underground. City Guide

Also within walking distance from the Tenjin area. With Halloween just around the corner, the latte art featured a cute little ghost 👻. While there were desserts served with adorable panda ice cream, I opted for the simple donut and cheesecake. Even so, they were beautifully decorated for the season 🕸 The interior has a chic, black-themed aesthetic that’s super stylish ◎ Thanks for the treat! 🌷︎´-

At LATTE ART MANIA FUKUOKA, I tried their Halloween limited-edition sweets. For the pudding affogato, I added the puppy and panda toppings. They were so cute, and the presentation of drizzling strawberry sauce at the end was a fun, Halloween-themed touch that I really enjoyed. For drinks, I had the Halloween Black Matcha Latte and the Halloween Black Hojicha Latte. The pitch-black look despite being matcha and hojicha was so unique, and the latte art was special for Halloween too. #slowtraveling Daimyo sits behind Tenjin, 5 min walk from Tenjin Station (Kuko subway, ¥210 from Hakata) or Akasaka Station. No gate, no ticket—just a grid of 3-m-wide lanes where 1920s housing meets third-wave coffee. Free to walk, cafés 8:00–18:00, some closed Tuesday. I went 9:50 weekday. Started at a 7-seat siphon bar (¥650 pour-over, card ok), then wandered the lane between Daimyo 1–2 chome: a record shop with no sign, a linen boutique, a ¥280 anpan from a basement bakery (cash), a mural that changes every spring. Sat on the curb with the coffee and watched the city arrive—salarymen to Tenjin, students to design school, nobody in a hurry. Bought a ¥1,800 drip-bag set from the siphon bar as a souvenir (cash, they don’t card under ¥3,000). Carry ¥2,000 coins; the indie spots are cash-first, the bigger roasters take card. IC to Tenjin. Mistake: going Saturday 14:00—the lanes fill with stroller traffic. Weekday 10 am is the Daimyo seam. Another: conflating it with Tenjin. Tenjin is the department store; Daimyo is the alley behind the alley. Would you walk a café lane with no landmark and no map, or does slow travel need a pin to drop?

Leaving the Yecheng Archaeological Museum in Linzhang, drive east for about an hour to reach Daming County. Historically known as "Beijing Daming Prefecture," Daming was the secondary capital of the Northern Song Dynasty and now quietly rests on the southern Hebei Plain. The goal of this trip is the stone inscription museum—an open-air stele forest housing the tallest and largest ancient stele in China, including one that forever links the name Di Renjie to this city. 📍Location: Daming stone inscription museum, Daming County, Handan City, Hebei 🎫Admission: free (ID required) ⏰Hours: Tuesday to Sunday 9:00 AM–5:00 PM (closed Monday) 🚗Transport: recommended to drive. Navigate to "Daming stone inscription museum." About 1.5 hours from Handan city center 🏆Highlights: Wuliji stele (national key cultural relic protection unit), Di Renjie shrine stele (national protection), Zhu Xi scripture inscription stele (provincial protection), Ma Wencao spirit way stele (provincial protection), He Hongjing epitaph (national protection) ⏳Recommended duration: 2–3 hours 🪨Wuliji stele—the "top stele in the world," a "single stele showing Tang and Song" Entering the museum gate and passing through a shaded corridor, the first thing you see is the Wuliji stele lying on the ground. Standing over 12 meters tall, it is the tallest and largest ancient stele still existing in China. The stele lies flat on a stone base, with the six-dragon pattern on the top clearly visible. A nearby plaque explains why it is called a "single stele showing Tang and Song"—this stele was originally a Tang Dynasty virtue stele for He Jintao, military governor of Weibo, inscribed by Liu Gongquan. During the Northern Song Zhenghe period, Emperor Huizong ordered the old text to be erased and replaced with his own imperial "New Rites of the Five Rites." The front of the stele is in slender gold script, while traces of Liu’s calligraphy remain on the side. On one stele, the strength of the Tang and the elegance of the Song coexist on the same stone surface—Liu Gongquan’s robust style and Emperor Huizong’s graceful script, separated by a stone crack, are neighbors within arm’s reach. The stele has been ground down, altered, and broken, but each scar tells its own story. 📜Di Renjie shrine stele—the people won’t let a good official be forgotten by time Not far from the Wuliji stele is a stele pavilion housing the Di Renjie shrine stele. Officially named "Great Tang Di Lianggong Shrine Stele," it was first erected in 698 to commemorate Di Renjie’s virtuous governance while defending Weizhou against the Khitan. Di Renjie’s time in Weizhou was brief, but the local people immediately built a shrine and erected a stele for him after he left. The stele’s 27 lines of regular script are precise, as if carefully completing an important task. True virtue is not measured by the length of your term but by whether people are willing to carve a stone for you after you leave. The people of Daming built a shrine and stele for him right after his departure. That stele has stood for 1,300 years, weathering wind, rain, and dynastic changes, yet it remains, as does Di Renjie’s place in the hearts of the people. 🖋️Zhu Xi scripture inscription stele—a rare handwritten work by the master of Neo-Confucianism The Zhu Xi scripture inscription stele is a Ming Dynasty re-carving of Zhu Xi’s handwritten classics, as the original no longer exists. The inscription is dignified and composed, reflecting Zhu Xi’s Neo-Confucian philosophy—neither harsh nor severe, calm and reserved. As a calligraphic relic of the Neo-Confucian master, it is extremely rare among surviving steles. If you are interested in calligraphy or Song and Ming Neo-Confucianism, this stele is worth a close look. ⚔️Ma Wencao spirit way stele & He Hongjing epitaph—the true records of late Tang military governors The Ma Wencao spirit way stele, carved during the Later Jin of the Five Dynasties, records the military career of the Ma family through the late Tang, Later Liang, and Later Tang periods. It is an important historical artifact for studying the changes in late Tang military governors. The He Hongjing epitaph is even more impressive—it is the largest surviving Tang Dynasty epitaph, with nearly 3,000 words systematically recording the genealogy and military-political affairs of He Hongjing, military governor of Weibo in the late Tang. The calligraphy is precise and formal. These two steles carve the real details of the late Tang military governor era, line by line, into stone. ⚠️Practical tips · The stone inscription museum is located in Daming County. It is recommended to dedicate a separate day for this visit during your Handan itinerary · Some steles are displayed outdoors. Visit on clear days, as rain or snow may limit access to outdoor exhibits · Audio guides or guided tours are available for rent (about 50–80 yuan) · Flash photography is prohibited · Dining options nearby are limited.
