One-Day Tour of Bogotá, the Capital of Colombia
🇨🇴Bogotá|
Arrive at the other end of the Earth, reaching the distant and mysterious South American continent, and explore Bogotá, one of the world's ten most dangerous cities. The equator passes through Colombia, but in this capital city located over 3,000 meters above sea level, the climate remains cool and refreshing, and it can even feel a bit chilly at night wearing just a single layer.
The main attractions in Bogotá are concentrated in the southeast corner of the city, with the most famous being the city’s highest point, Monserrate Hill. Round-trip tickets cost 32,000 COP (total price including tax 38,000 COP). The cable car boarding point is at Taquilla Teleférico Monserrate, where you can take the funicular up the mountain and overlook the sprawling city below.
There is usually a long wait to descend; I waited two hours, and by the time it was my turn, it was already dark. I managed to capture the city’s night view from the cable car. At the foot of the mountain is Colombia’s top university—the University of the Andes, ranked around QS 200.
Other key spots are centered around Bolívar Square, which is less than a 30-minute walk downhill from the Monserrate cable car station. Along the way, you can see the old town of Bogotá, with the Colombian Congress building, City Hall, and Bogotá Cathedral all located here.
Colombia is a very distinctive place, known as the South American country that most resembles South America itself. Their food culture is unique, and although the crime rate is high, you can feel the warmth and hospitality of the locals.
The summit of Monserrate Hill, Bogotá’s highest point, stands at 3,200 meters above sea level. Looking toward the city, sunlight breaks through the clouds, illuminating Bogotá brilliantly.
PS: To use public transportation in Bogotá, you must have a transit card, which can only be obtained with local cash. At the airport, exchanging US dollars is about 1:3400, with a minimum exchange of $50.
