Atomium Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Mar)
Atomium
It's amazing! A real work of art, engineering and architecture. I've always been amazed by it, but, unfortunately, I never got the chance to visit inside. Indeed a very unique building that was much bigger than I was expecting and visually stunning. Such an amazing building constructed over 70 years ago for the 58th Expo. looking at it just makes me think of the architect who designed this majestic building with all those different dome towers. Imagine how much effort was put into connecting them. It still looks very shinny to me. I believe a lot of maintenance has been done to it to keep this fresh look.

Atomium - Brussels, Belgium
Built for the 1958 Brussels World Fair, this spectacular architecture landmark has been here even since! It’s now one of the popular tourist attraction in Brussels.
It serves as a museum, an art center and a cultural destination. The Atomium is 102m tall and each “atom” is made from stainless steel.
The Atomium can be access by taking the metro on Line 6 and alight at Heysel station.

Atomium, one of the most popular landmarks in Brussels, Belgium. It was created for the 1958 world expo which was held in Brussels.
Walked from Gare du Nord for about 25 minutes to Grand Place and from there we took Metro Line 6 to Heysel/Heizel.
The Atomium is just a few steps away from the Heysel/Heizel station.
The history of Atomium was very interesting. I read it before I visited the place and it was really worth it!

What a Place!

Brussels, Belgium is just a 2 and a half hour ride by bus from Amsterdam. It is faster by train but the bus was cheaper 😁 although train is definitely more comfortable but we wanted to try the bus ride experience to be able to compare it on what to take on our next vacation 😊
One of the reasons why we wanted to go to Brussels was to see the Atomium which is the most popular landmark in the city!
We saw the Atomium at day time but we went there during night and it was more beautiful with all the lights on. The lights gave more life and charms to the object which is the Atomium.
Brussels was a very interesting place. We had an exciting experience that we won‘t forget for the rest of our lives 😅

The Royal Palace of Brussels
#bucketlistreboot
The Royal Palace of Brussels (Palais Royal) is another place to visit whilst in the city. It is the official Palace of the King and Queen of the Belgians however, it is not used as a royal residence.
This one reminded us of Buckingham Palace in London and of the the Royal Palace in Madrid. Every summer, the Royal Palace opens its doors to the public. If you are lucky enough to visit, you can see some of the splendid rooms of the palace.
Brussels is a great capital city and definitely worth visiting. It’s a popular destination for young adults and families and offers a range of attractions and activities to suit any age group and personal preferences.

Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) Royal Palace of Brussels and Atomium
Belgium, a country in Western Europe, is known for medieval towns and Renaissance architecture. The bilingual capital, Brussels, has elegant art-nouveau buildings including the Royal Palace.
The Royal Palace in Grand Place usually is open for viewing once a year. It is the King's administrative residence and main workplace, where he works daily with his staff but He doesn’t live there.
The Royal Palace opens its doors to the public. From 23 July to 28 August, the palace can be visited free of charge, except on Mondays. It’s worth the visit. Of course, you can also visit some other tourist spots in Brussels like the Atomium.

Brussels Town Hall Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Mar)
Brussels Town Hall Belgium
Without doubt the most beautiful edifice in Grand Place, Brussels City Hall was seriously damaged by Marshal Villeroy’s bombardment in 1695. It was quickly rebuilt with a wing being added at the rear.
In the 19th century, it was adorned with 290 statues during a campaign of restoration initiated by the architects Suys and Jamaer. This campaign also focused on renewing the interior decoration which wonderfully illustrates the history of Brussels, starting in the first floor lobby, the walls of which are covered with portraits of the leaders of our regions. These include Empress Maria Theresa, Napoleon I and King William I of the Netherlands and King Leopold I by Franz-Xaver Winterhalter. A succession of aldermen’s offices contain numerous portraits depicting the mayors of Brussels.
It should also be pointed out that foreign heads of state visiting Brussels are often honoured on the balcony, which offers a unique perspective from which to admire Grand Place.#awesomepic #valentinescape

Brussels City Hall is one of the most striking buildings in the Grand Place in Brussels. This Gothic building is a landmark in Brussels. The
building was built in two phases, and the larger left half was built in 1402. When the right half was built in 1455, the tower and the 96-meter-tall minaret were built by PhilipeleBon. This is a typical ancient Flemish Gothic building, grandiose, ethereal and striking. The
town hall building was built in 1402. The tower above it is about 91 meters high. The top of the tower is shaped with a statue of the sacred Michelle of Brussels, 5 meters high. The main entrance of the city hall is not in the middle, and the hall tower is also slightly side. In fact, the reason why the hall tower and the gate are not in the middle is because the entire building was built in three different periods, so the scale appeared.
The various sculptures on the outer wall are really charming. It is said that the interior decoration is very beautiful, the pattern drawn on the ceiling is wonderful, the railing pattern is finely carved, and the snow-white marble staircase is like a silver snake. The corridor of the
city hall is full of murals. Among the many portraits are the Belgian monarchs, the kings of Spain, the Netherlands, France and other countries that have ruled Brussels, and the sweeping continent of Europe. The portrait of Napoleon.
Brussels city walk
Brussels is the capital of Belgium, the largest city.
The Grand Place in Brussels is located in the center of Brussels. The Grand Place is rectangular and the ground is paved with granite. The buildings around the square are mostly Gothic buildings built in the Middle Ages.
The Manneken Pis statue is located southwest of the Grand Place in Brussels, at the corner of Hengwen Street and Oak Street. The statue is made of bronze and is naked all over. On certain special holidays, it will wear festive costumes.
The Brussels City Hall is a landmark of Brussels, located on the west side of the Grand Place in Brussels. It is a typical ancient Flanders Gothic building, with a majestic shape, towering and eye-catching.

The Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Belgium is a place where you can enjoy the history of art development in Belgium and around the world since the Middle Ages. The most famous here is the exhibitions of Flemish paintings such as Weiden, Brechelle and Rubens, as well as the exhibition halls of Belgian symbolism at the end of the 19th century, such as Knoppoff and Delville. The entire building is magnificent and full of classical beauty. Close to the Museum of Classical Art is the Museum of Modern Art, especially the work of the Belgian surrealist Margaret. Exceptional quality museum for old masters!
Easily done in a morning, beautiful layout and building.
European Getaway to Brussels, Belgium 🇧🇪
❤️Recommendation reason:
Belgium is one of the Schengen countries, not far from the UK, France, the Netherlands, and Germany, making it the perfect choice for international students' long weekends.
🚉Transportation guide:
Round trip on Eurostar, London St. Pancras - Brussels Midi.
BTW, London St. Pancras is the most charming train station in the world, without a doubt. Whether it's the Baroque-style ceiling, the 6-meter-high sculpture of lovers kissing, or the occasional piano music that stops passersby, all of them make your journey's starting/ending point full of happiness 💖.
🛏️[Hotel Guide]
The homestay I found on Airbnb was hosted by a lawyer who generously gave me their spacious room. I honestly couldn't find the address, but my friends, make good use of Airbnb, there are so many interesting hosts out there!
🍽️Food and beverage recommendations:
Brussels cuisine features white wine mussels (jokingly, Brussels is called Brussels because it's best for mussels [laughing]), waffles, nut chocolate, Belgian beer (Delirium cafe next to Grand Place is worth a try), and the super famous French fries. I walked tirelessly just to have a taste of the fries... If I had to recommend one, the curry tomato sauce with fries has a unique taste and is worth a try!
