I took the BLS boat from Interlaken Ost at 9:12 am (2nd class single to Giessbach See landing CHF 24, card at kiosk), crossed turquoise Lake Brienz in 35 min, stepped off at the Giessbach See stop, and rode the 1887 Giessbachbahn funicular up (CHF 14 round trip, 5 min, historic wooden cars). The combined “Time Travel” ticket (boat + funicular + 3-course lunch at Grandhotel Giessbach) is CHF 104.80 adult 2nd class / CHF 136.80 1st class in 2026—I skipped lunch and paid à la carte at the hotel terrace (CHF 28 for rösti + sparkling water) which freed my schedule. The falls: a 370 m cascade split into terraces right behind the hotel; a free footpath runs behind the spray. I descended on foot via the forest switchbacks (25 min) to the boat dock instead of riding the funicular down—saved CHF 7 and got closer to the lower falls. The two lakes have different shades—one Tiffany blue, the other peacock blue. I didn’t want to leave! 🏔️ Amazing location The guesthouse is right in the center of Interlaken, just a few steps from the east station, but the soundproofing is excellent—no train noise at all. The balcony faces Höhematte Park, a huge lawn area. Lying in bed, you can see the three peaks of the Jungfrau region. I screamed the moment I opened the curtains in the morning! 🚂 Best way to get around Tested and proven! You must buy the Swiss Travel Pass. Four days cost about 280 CHF (latest price for 2026). You get 25% off Jungfrau tickets, free rides to Harder Kulm viewing platform, and unlimited lake cruises! Download the SBB Mobile app—it shows real-time train schedules and lets you buy tickets. Swiss trains are so punctual that if it says 3:15, it’s exactly 3:15, down to the second! ⛰️ Must-do hardcore routes Day 1: Head straight to Jungfrau!
