Philippines Luzon Mount Pulag Ambangeg Mossy Grassland Ridge
#bucketlistdestinations Pulag (2,928 m), Luzon's highest, via Ambangeg Trail is the beginner-friendly side. From Baguio, Dangwa bus to Bokod (150 PHP, cash), jeep to Ranger Station (300 PHP, cash), permit 300 PHP + guide 500 PHP/group (card nowhere, bring 1,000 PHP small bills). Mandatory briefing at 4 pm, curfew 4:30 am start.
Ambangeg is 90% boardwalk now—above 2,400 m the dwarf bamboo gives way to mossy grassland, the famous "sea of clouds" balcony at Grassland 2. The moss is ankle-deep, yellow-orange in sunrise, and the cypress skeletons at 2,800 m look painted.
Mistake: I packed a cotton hoodie—condensation froze it solid by 5 am, wear fleece + shell.
Kindness beat: a fellow hiker from Manila gave me her spare hand warmer and said "bundok hindi kumpetisyon" (the mountain isn't a competition).
When a boardwalk protects the moss, does the wild still count?
