The village is located in the ancient Ribagorza County, formed by the valley around the Ethira River. The area around Benasque is the most densely populated area of the entire Pyrenees with peaks over 3,000 meters above sea level, among which the most noteworthy is the Aneto Peak at 3,404 meters above sea level. In the nearby town of Cerler we find the highest ski resort in the Aragonese Pyrenees.
In Benasque we can find very interesting mansions such as the Palace of the Count of Ribagosa, the mansion of Marcial del Río, the mansion of Juster and the mansion of Faure, as well as the church of Santa María la Mayor. The whole area is marked by Romanesque buildings and huts ("bodas"), typical of the Pyrenees. In its modern city center we find an excellent tourist infrastructure.
In Benasque we found one of the eight hunting reserves of Aragon. Furthermore, the region's great geological diversity, with more than thirteen glaciers, ninety-five lakes and numerous waterfalls, together with the many species of flora and fauna that thrive here, led to the establishment of the Posets Maladeta Nature Reserve in 1994.
