With its immense size and mysterious background, it has become a talking point in the city on its own. In terms of artistic value, it houses the "world's largest indoor Buddha statue," approximately 30 meters tall!! It is constructed from over 1,000 copper plates and coated entirely in gold powder. All of this is magnificent. This place is like a luxurious replica of an ancient palace. Every detail is meticulously carved. It took many years to complete and was built by renowned craftsmen from all over China. 2️⃣ Farmer’s Art Building / Strange Building: In this “Farmer’s Art Building,” we see the most “free spirit” of this city. Actually, this is an “art building” created by a local resident named Li Junye. He built it purely from his own artistic inspiration, without any professional engineering blueprints. Everything was built from his “images in his head” and “feelings in his heart” since the 1980s. Every brick, every tile is filled with the quirky and creative ideas of this local craftsman. The doors and windows are asymmetrical, there are secret passages everywhere, defying all architectural rules. DarongShan National Forest Park, around 23 km from Yulin downtown, is a stunning landscape with mountains, forest, reservoir, waterfall and windmills. As it's such a big forest park with hundreds of mountains, and the main attractions are far away from each other, it's highly recommended to visit by car 🚘rather than public transportation. If you go there in National Day, prepare yourself with enough food and drinks because of traffic jam😆 There is an abandoned reservoir 🏞with clean water and surrounded by green forest. Nice view of the overall reservoir. While some people go there for swimming and BBQ. Besides that, DarongShan National Forest Park is also famous for its vast grasslands, where you can enjoy camping🏕and paddling in the biggest grassland with a lake nearby. I was lucky to find out the Lianhua Waterfall(莲花瀑布) after one hour hike and steep descent in the hidden forest. No sugarcoating here—I'll give credit where it's due and point out the pitfalls. 01 Ningbo | Zhejiang Tianyi Pavilion is a place I'm willing to visit again and again. ⏰ Arrive before 9:00 AM. The tour groups haven't swarmed in yet, and the gardens are filled only with birdsong and the sound of turning pages. The library itself isn't large, but the scent of old wood is intoxicating. 📍 Moon Lake is right next door. You can walk there after exploring, no need to take a taxi. Xikou Tengtou Tourist Area is great for bringing older relatives. It's a large area with a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes. For Qiantong Ancient Town, I actually recommend going in the evening. ⏰ After 4:00 PM, the light hits the stone paths, and the Sanbao soup and wheat cake stalls are all set up—it looks and tastes better than at noon. ⚠️ Tianyi Pavilion is closed on Monday mornings—don't ask me how I know. If you're staying overnight, choose the Drum Tower or Chenghuang Temple area so you can stroll over for a bowl of Gangyagou tangyuan in the evening. 🚄 Take Metro Line 2 directly from Ningbo Station; it's convenient for getting anywhere. 02 Wuhan | Hubei I recommend entering Yellow Crane Tower Park at ⏰ 7:30 AM. It's less crowded, the river mist hasn't cleared yet, and you won't have to fight for a photo spot. 📍 Enter from the West Gate, walk to the main tower, and then head down toward Echi so you don't have to backtrack. East Lake is much larger than West Lake, so don't try to see it all at once. Rent a shared bike and ride from Liyuan Square to Moshan. There are cherry blossoms in spring and red leaves in autumn. Songyang Temple is in Huangpi and is best for self-driving; transferring by bus is too much of a hassle. Huangpi Mulan Cultural Ecological Tourist Area is great for families. The grassland and the Heavenly Lake are separate, so trying to cram both into one day will be tiring. 🍜 Don't eat inside the scenic area. Head back to the city center to Liangdao Street for Zhao Shifu's hot dry noodles with egg wine—a solid meal for 6 yuan. ⚠️ The East Lake Moshan cable car stops running at 5:00 PM, so don't cut it too close. 03 Xuancheng | Anhui Chaji Ancient Village is one of my favorite villages in southern Anhui. ⏰ I recommend staying one night. Wake up at 6:00 AM to see the local women washing vegetables by the stream and art students sketching—that kind of quiet disappears once the tourists arrive during the day. Jixi Longchuan is more orderly, and the wood carvings in the Hu Family Ancestral Hall are worth a slow look. 📍 Don't rush to take photos when you enter from the village entrance. Walk to the end of the Water Street and look back—that's the best perspective. 🍜 Jixi stir-fried vermicelli and taguo are available right at the entrance of Longchuan for 10 yuan. ⚠️ Some guesthouses in Chaji converted from old houses have poor soundproofing. Ask if the room faces the stream before booking. 🚄 There's no direct bus from Xuancheng Station to Chaji. I recommend carpooling or driving yourself. The mountain roads are winding, so take motion sickness medicine if you get carsick. 04 Tangshan | Hebei The scale and atmosphere of the Eastern Qing Tombs can't be captured in photos. ⏰ Go to Yuling first in the morning. The underground palace is open, and the stone carvings have so many details you won't be able to take them all in. 📍 The distance between the ticket office and the various tombs is far, so buy a sightseeing shuttle ticket—don't skimp on this. Nanhu and Kailuan have different vibes. Nanhu is great for an evening stroll, while the Kailuan National Mine Park is better for those interested in industrial history. ⚠️ The underground mine experience at the Mine Park has height restrictions, so keep that in mind if you have children. 🍜 You can try the chess-shaped sesame cakes and geza at Tangshan Banquet, but don't treat them as a full meal—the value is just average. Stay in Lunan District so you can walk to Nanhu. 🚄 It takes about 20 minutes to take a taxi from Tangshan Station to Nanhu, just over the starting fare. 05 Wuxi | Jiangsu I advise you to enter Nianhuawan at ⏰ 3:00 PM. There are too many tour groups during the day, and it only looks the way it should once the lights come on in the evening. 📍 If you stay inside the scenic area, you can photograph Xiangyue Flower Street in the morning when it's empty. Lingshan Grand Buddha and the Three Kingdoms and Water Margin City offer two different experiences. Lingshan is best for a slow walk; time your visit for the Nine Dragons Bathing the Buddha performance. Take kids to the Three Kingdoms and Water Margin City to ride ancient boats and watch equestrian performances—half a day is enough. I save my appetite for Huishan Ancient Town; 🍜 Huishan tofu pudding and oil-crisp cakes are best enjoyed sitting by the river. ⚠️ The prices for inns in Nianhuawan fluctuate a lot; booking a week in advance can save you money. 🚄 Take the subway from Wuxi Station to Meiyuan and then transfer to a bus. If you're driving, parking is tight on weekends. 06 Yulin | Guangxi Darong Mountain National Forest Park is great for summer. ⏰ It's 5–6 degrees cooler on the mountain than in the city, so bring a jacket for the evening. 📍 Lotus Waterfall and Tianhu are in different directions. You can only choose one for the day; trying to do both will just be tiring. I didn't have high hopes for Yuntian Cultural City at first, but once inside, I was stunned by the sheer scale of the wood and bronze carvings. Wanhua Tower is in the city center and looks good when lit up at night; just stop by if you're in the area, no need to make a special trip. 🍜 Yulin beef jerky and beef brisket noodles are must-eats. Buy the vacuum-packed beef jerky to take home. ⚠️ The mountain roads at Darong Mountain are winding and sharp. Be careful when passing other cars, and don't go up the mountain if it's foggy after rain. 🚄 It's a 10-minute taxi ride from Yulin Station to Yuntian Cultural City, and you can also get there by bus. 07 Harbin | Heilongjiang For Harbin Ice and Snow World, enter at ⏰ 4:00 PM to see both the daytime and nighttime views in one go. Wear your warmest gear and stick a hand warmer to the back of your phone, or it will freeze and shut down. 📍 The line for the big slide is the longest, so head there first when you enter. Volga Manor is great for those who like peace and quiet—the Russian-style architecture and snow scenery look good no matter how you photograph them. For feeding pigeons at St. Sophia Cathedral Square, ⏰ the light is best in the morning; it's backlit in the afternoon. Eating a Madieer popsicle on Central Street is only worth it when it's below -20 degrees. ⚠️ Ice and Snow World tickets are time-specific. Book through official channels in advance, as they might be sold out on-site. 🍜 Choose a stew restaurant in a residential area; the ones on Central Street are expensive and just average. 🚄 The airport bus to Central Street takes about an hour—don't take an unlicensed taxi. 08 Tonghua | Jilin The Goguryeo cultural relics are in Ji'an. It's worth hiring a guide for the King Gwanggaeto Stele and the General's Tomb, otherwise, you're just looking at rocks. ⏰ Go in the morning when the light hits the stele and makes the characters clear. The Ji'an rapeseed flower fields are at their peak from ⏰ late June–early July. The blooming period is short, so check the real-time conditions before you go. 📍 The flower fields are by the Yalu River, so you can enjoy the river view while you're there. 🍜 For Ji'an's fire pot and open-flame barbecue, the small shops locals frequent are better than the ones at the entrance of the scenic area. ⚠️ There's some distance between the two spots, so driving is most convenient; public transport is infrequent. 🚄 There are trains from Tonghua Station to Ji'an, but they are infrequent, so check the schedule in advance.
