#footballfanculture Clermont is volcanic, stubborn, and utterly authentic. My World Cup night was spent on Rue des Gras, in a pub carved from the dark lava stone that builds the city. The Place de la Victoire loomed nearby with its black cathedral. The crowd was a blend of ASM Clermont Auvergne rugby fans (who also love foot) and students. We drank Auvergne blonde ale (Ch'ti or local microbrews), arguing tactics with the intensity of a geological shift. The stone arches amplified every "Olé!" and groan. It's a working-class, intellectual, mountain-town fusion—passionate but never fake. When France scored, the whole room stood. The Plan: Arrive via tram to Place de Jaude to see the Vercingétorix statue. Target Rue Blatin/Rue des Gras for the best screens. Order truffade(potato + Cantal cheese). After the match, climb a bit toward Montjuzet park for a night view of the lit-up black cathedral. Pure Auvergne.

My night began in the Place de la Victoire, a square framed by black lava rock buildings that seem to absorb the noise and amplify it. I ducked into a pub on the Rue des Gras, a narrow medieval lane pulsing with student energy. The fan culture here is intense and grounded. It’s a working-class city with a fierce intellectual streak, thanks to the university. The beer of choice is Chouffe or a local Auvergne brew, sipped in dimly lit, stone-walled bars. The crowd debated tactics with a seriousness usually reserved for philosophy exams. When the goal came, the volcanic stone seemed to vibrate with the roar. The Plan: Target the bars around Place de la Victoire. It gets packed, so arrive 90 minutes early. Try a truffade(local potato and cheese dish). After the game, walk up to the Place de Jaude to see the statue of Vercingetorix, the Gallic chieftain, standing guard over the celebrating fans.

It’s only about an hour away by boat, and the ticket costs around 10 euros, making it an affordable and memorable outing. The island is peaceful, with stunning views and a rich history. Exploring the castle and its surroundings was truly special, offering a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Highly recommended!

#francetrip Visiting the Basilica Notre-Dame de la Garde in Marseille was absolutely breathtaking! 🏰⛪ Perched high on a hill, this iconic basilica offers the most stunning panoramic views of the entire city and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. The climb up was a bit steep, but trust me, it’s worth every step! You can either hike up or take the local bus, but I chose to walk and enjoy the sights along the way. Once at the top, I was completely blown away by the view. 🌊🌅 The basilica itself is a masterpiece. The exterior features a beautiful golden statue of the Virgin Mary, while the interior is just as impressive with its intricate mosaics, marble columns, and nautical-themed decorations that reflect Marseille’s maritime history. The entrance is free, which is great if you're traveling on a budget. 🖼️✨ I spent a good amount of time inside, taking in the peaceful atmosphere and lighting a candle. Outside, there’s a large terrace that’s perfect for taking photos or just sitting and enjoying the view. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Château d'If and the Frioul Islands. Eiffel Tower is certainly worth the visit. The whole of Paris can be seen from the two levels on the second floor, so take time to admire the 360-degree view. Please prebooked the visit so that you can skip the queue. You can choose to take the stairs or the life access. There was a food kiosk on the 2nd floor & cafe under the Eiffel Tower for snacks. There was a few souvenier shops on the 2nd floor too. A truly fabulous experience. Paris just wouldn't be Paris without the Eiffel Tower stealing the show!

It was too small to be called a castle, and too small to be called a prison, so it was a bit disappointing!
