From late November to late March, "Iwatsunegi" will be available at Roadside Station Fresh Asago. Iwatsunegi from Asago City is said to be one of the three great onions in Japan, alongside Shimonita onions from Gunma Prefecture and Hakata versatile onions from Fukuoka Prefecture. They promote Iwatsunegi to a level that feels almost insane (the in-store song is made with Iwatsunegi, the mats are made with Iwatsunegi, the souvenirs and even the food court are made with Iwatsunegi). Asago Forest Art Museum is an art space consisting of a vast outdoor sculpture park and an indoor art museum. The "Last Lunch" in front of the museum is a very unique and fun photo opportunity. The park is really large, so we recommend that you go there with plenty of time! This has to be one of the highlight in all my Japan travels so far. This was a memorable and beautiful place to be, after you hike up the mountains for about 1 hr, you will reach the ruins and this place offered a very scenic view of the surroundings mountains and area. If you visit during autumn seasons, you will be able to see beautiful foliages !!! You can also view the fantastic sea of clouds from the opposite side of the mountain, just be prepared to hike up the mountain again in early morning hours before sunrise (if the weather is good). You will be treated to an unforgettable view. Highly recommended to come to this place !!! #givethanks #givethanks

Often hailed as the "Machu Picchu of Japan" and the "Castle in the Sky," Takeda Castle is a breathtaking hidden gem that is absolutely worth the trek. Although its towering main keep is long gone, the spectacular, remarkably well-preserved stone walls meandering along the mountain's natural contours still exude an awe-inspiring majesty amidst the surrounding peaks. To catch the most magical views, the early mornings from autumn through early winter are your best bet. When a dense sea of clouds rolls in, the entire castle ruins appear to be floating in mid-air. The ethereal and secluded beauty of this sight is more than enough to make you forget the exhaustion of hiking up in the pre-dawn darkness. Wandering through the ruins of the Honmaru (main enclosure) and taking in the panoramic views of the castle town and the Maruyama River below, you can't help but marvel at the masterful civil engineering of the Sengoku period's "all-stone wall construction." It's also a profound moment to reflect on the bittersweet history of this ancient fortress, which was abandoned shortly after the Battle of Sekigahara. This is truly an ultimate visual feast that perfectly marries natural wonders with rich historical heritage.

Takeda Castle Ruins, located in Japan, is a well-preserved medieval castle site, also known as the 'Castle in the Sky'. If Amanohashidate is a bridge connecting the sea and land, then Takeda Castle is a 'helicopter' connecting the sky and earth. Takeda Castle is one of Japan's Three Great Mountain Castles, located in Asago City, Hyogo Prefecture, and is often mentioned alongside Hida Mountain in Gifu Prefecture and Bitchu Matsuyama in Okayama Prefecture. Although Takeda Castle is much less famous than Amanohashidate, its spectacular terraced fields and breathtaking 360° panoramic views will definitely change your perception of Japanese terraced fields. Key highlights of Takeda Castle include: 🔹 Beautiful Terraced Fields: From spring to autumn, the terraced fields change colors with the seasons, like a dynamic scroll painting. In winter, the snow-white terraced fields offer a different kind of awe-inspiring beauty. 🔹 360° Panoramic Observation Deck: Ascend to the observation deck to overlook the magnificent scenery of Takeda Castle from various angles. Remember to visit on a sunny day! 🔹 Takeda Castle Ruins Park: Besides the terraced fields and observation deck, the park also features several interesting attractions, such as the ancient castle ruins and teahouses. 👣 Recommended Route: 1. After getting off at Takeda Station, take a bus to Kojozan Station. After getting off, follow the signs and hike up Kojozan Mountain, which takes about 15 minutes. 2. Once you reach Kojozan Mountain, you can stand on the castle walls and overlook the beautiful scenery of the entire city. 3. After your visit, take the bus back to the station. 💡 Tips: · Morning and afternoon are the best times to visit, as the light is softest then, allowing for better photos. · It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes, as climbing Kojozan Mountain requires hiking. · Bring your camera and tripod to capture this beautiful castle. · If you're lucky, you might even encounter cultural events organized by local residents at the castle! 🍱 Food Recommendations: · Restaurants and cafes near Takeda Castle offer a variety of delicious snacks and beverages. · We recommend trying local traditional dishes such as sushi, grilled fish, and grilled chicken. · Be sure to try Takeda Castle's specialty – Takeda Senbei! These thin rice crackers are made from local glutinous rice and soybean flour, offering a very unique flavor. · If you're not accustomed to Japanese cuisine, you can also try local fast-food restaurants and convenience stores. Overall, while the scenery of Takeda Castle may not be as delicate and magnificent as Amanohashidate, its grandeur and awe-inspiring beauty are unforgettable. If you love spectacular natural landscapes, you definitely shouldn't miss this place!

Hailed as Japan's "Castle in the Sky," the Takeda Castle Ruins sit serenely amidst the mountains of Asago City, Hyogo Prefecture. On a clear day, standing at the ruins and looking down, the hills, forests, and clouds seem to blend into one, making you feel like you've stepped into a wonderland—this is definitely a must-visit for travelers who love snapping photos, nature, and historical sights! The highlight of this trip is Takeda Castle. If you want to deeply experience the magic of this sky-high fortress, you absolutely can't miss the following ultimate guide. The Ultimate Guide to Takeda Castle Ruins Takeda Castle Ruins (Takeda Castle) Often referred to as the "Machu Picchu of Japan," Takeda Castle Ruins rest on a mountain peak surrounded by lush forests. Whether viewed from up close or afar, the stone wall remains against the natural backdrop create an incredibly unique cultural landscape. Especially in the early mornings or during the sea of clouds season (October to November), the mountaintop is enveloped in mist, making the entire ruin look as though it's floating in the sky. It's a photographer's paradise and a sacred spot to feel the perfect blend of nature and history. First-Hand Tips: · Unlike the hustle and bustle of the city, it's incredibly peaceful here. With only the sound of the wind and occasional birdsong, it's the perfect place to zone out and clear your mind. · We highly recommend heading up the mountain on a sunny day for a broader view. The blue sky, white clouds, emerald forests, and yellowish-brown stone walls blend perfectly—stunning for both close-ups and wide shots. · Bring sun protection! There is almost no shade on the mountaintop, and the sun can be intense, especially in spring and summer! · Wear hiking boots or sneakers with good grip. The trail consists mostly of mountain paths and stairs, so safety comes first. · Food options on the mountain are limited, so it's a good idea to bring your own drinks (but please remember not to leave any trash behind). · Best times to visit: Early morning (for a chance to see the dreamy sea of clouds), before 9 AM, or after 3 PM when there are fewer crowds, making it easier to take great photos. Quick Practical Info · Address: 169 Wadayamacho Takeda, Asago, Hyogo 669-5252 · Opening Hours: .March 1 - May 31: 08:00 - 17:00 .June 1 - December 6: 05:00 - 17:00 .December 7 - January 3: 10:00 - 15:00 (May vary by year; please check official announcements) · Admission: 22.0 JPY (Price for reference only) Transportation Guide The most convenient way to get to Takeda Castle Ruins is to take the JR Bantan Line to "Takeda Station." After exiting the station, there's a small trail leading up the mountain (about a 40-50 minute walk). Alternatively, you can take the castle access bus to the halfway point and walk to the ruins from there. Along the way, maple trees, cherry blossoms, and mixed woodlands intertwine, offering different vibrant colors throughout the four seasons. If you set off in the morning, the trails are quiet with fewer people. We suggest bringing water and light snacks. Bonus Tips · Cell phone reception is spotty during the hike, so it's best to save your navigation route or download offline maps in advance. · If you want to capture the stunning sea of clouds, it is highly recommended to visit in October or November and arrive at the mountaintop between 5 AM and 7 AM. · Ticket prices and opening hours may change due to weather conditions or maintenance. Always check before you go. · Mosquito repellent is highly recommended, as there are plenty of bugs in the natural mountain forests. · After hiking down, you can take a break at a Japanese restaurant near Takeda Station to enjoy handmade local bento boxes or regional cuisine—a perfect way to soothe yourself after a day's hike. For an in-depth day trip in Asago City, Takeda Castle Ruins is all you need! It's not just a photo op, but a spiritual journey. If you also yearn to stand atop the misty peaks and feel the extraordinary majesty of the "Castle in the Sky," quickly jot down this route and treat yourself to a spontaneous little adventure in Asago!

Your Route: Start at the main entrance (33-5 Ikunocho Kono), where the snow draws a striking contrast against the rustic structures. Venture into the guided underground tunnels—don’t miss the interactive exhibits showcasing historic mining tools and vivid holograms of former miners at work. Save time to stroll through the snow-covered architectural complex; dusk is ideal for capturing the soft glow on wooden facades. Must-Do Experiences: Explore the "Mine Tunnel Walk" (around 40 mins), with chilly air intensifying the sense of adventure beneath the earth. I finally visited the Castle in the Sky that I had always wanted to see! The sea of clouds can be seen from early morning until around 8 AM in October and November. After exiting the Wadayama Interchange by car, it took about 15 minutes to reach the Ritsuunkyo parking lot. Ritsuunkyo is a spot with an observation deck offering a view of the Takeda Castle Ruins across the way. I heard that the parking lot closest to the entrance of Ritsuunkyo fills up quickly, so I arrived the night before at around 11:30 PM. By then, about 30 spaces were already occupied. I managed to park in a nearby spot, took a nap, and started climbing at around 5 AM. It took about 30 minutes to reach the first observation deck. Since it’s a mountain trail, a flashlight is necessary. From midway up the trail, I could already see the sea of clouds. As the sun rose, the sky brightened, and I witnessed the most breathtaking sea of clouds! After spending some time at the first observation deck, I moved to the Takeda Castle Ruins by car at around 7:30 AM. I parked at the Yamashiro-no-Sato parking lot at the base and took a bus up to the Takeda Castle Ruins. The sea of clouds was still lingering, and from there, I enjoyed another spectacular view of the sea of clouds!! 😆 This is a must-visit spot for everyone! A stunning scenic location in Hyogo!! 😆✨

The ruins of Takeda Castle in Hyogo Prefecture are famous as the "Castle in the Sky." Although I wasn't able to see the sea of clouds this time, I still got to fully experience the charm of castle ruins, which can only be appreciated by actually walking through them! Looking up at the mountain from Takeda Station, the stone walls of the former castle are clearly visible. The highlight of this trip is climbing to the top on foot. The recommended route is the "Homomai Shrine Hiking Trail," which is a short walk from JR Takeda Station. The hike takes about 40 minutes, and there are observation spots along the way that offer panoramic views of the town. Once you reach the summit, you'll be greeted by the expansive stone walls and silence, with only the sound of the wind to guide you. In a space that still retains the atmosphere of the Sengoku period, I was enveloped in a sense of accomplishment beyond my imagination. Itinerary Day 1: Arrive at JR Takeda Station → Hike → Explore the Castle Ruins → Take a Break at Yamashiro no Sato 🍴 Nearby Food Spots ・Yamashiro no Sato Restaurant: Specialty "Tajima Beef Curry" ・Cafe Terakoya: Enjoy a sweet treat at this hidden cafe in front of Takeda Station 📌 Useful Information Address: 169 Takeda Kojoyama, Wadayama-cho, Asago City, Hyogo Prefecture 669-5252 Access: Approximately 20 minutes' walk from JR Takeda Station to the trailhead, then approximately 40 minutes' climb Admission Fee: ¥500 for adults, free for junior high school students and younger Open Period: March–December (Closed in winter) Parking: Yamashiro no Sato Parking Lot available (¥500 for standard cars, shuttle bus available) Even without the sea of clouds, the impressive stone walls and the view from the summit are truly breathtaking. In this short video, you will see an unusual route through 9 prefectures of Japan, which we did in 14 days. If you ever want to repeat it, you will find many amazing places and unforgettable moments.

🏖️Atmosphere/Facilities: Very different, but requires a rather steep climb. 💞Recommendation: The real Machu Picchu is quite far away, but you can still experience it here. I joined a tour group to the Takeda Castle ruins, and had to switch from a large vehicle to a small vehicle before starting the climb. The castle, nicknamed the "Castle in the Sky," wasn't foggy and didn't feel like it was in the clouds. However, once you climbed up, you truly felt like you were in Machu Picchu. It was truly unique, and a must-do for those with the stamina.

#Domestic Travel Strategy Takeda Castle Ruins is a castle in the sky, also known as the "Machu Picchu of Japan," and its fantastic scenery surrounded by a sea of clouds is its charm. Especially in the early autumn mornings, the scenery of the castle ruins floating in the mist spreads out, attracting many photographers. Although only the stone walls remain of the castle ruins themselves, their magnificent appearance gives you a sense of the history of the Sengoku period. The hiking route to the castle ruins is relatively easy to walk, so you can visit as if you were hiking. There is also a great view spot called "Tatsuunkyo Gorge" in the surrounding area, where you can view the Takeda Castle Ruins from afar. In addition, around Takeda Station, there is a "castle town" where the old-fashioned townscape remains, and you can enjoy local gourmet food while strolling. Takeda Castle Ruins, where you can enjoy both history and spectacular views, is a tourist spot you should visit at least once.

When I was a kid watching cartoons, I always saw plots with islands floating in the clouds. I never expected that! The "Takeda Castle Ruins" in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan is surrounded by clouds from autumn to early winter every year, making the Takeda Castle feel like it is floating in the clouds, hence the name "Castle in the Sky". This ancient city ruins located at an altitude of 350 meters, although only stone walls remain, the scenery intertwined with nature is stunning. Although we didn't see the sea of clouds when we arrived that day, the view looking down from the mountains was so breathtaking. I personally think that Takeda Castle Ruins is a must-visit tourist destination when you come to Hyogo Prefecture~ Takeda Castle was selected as one of Japan's 100 famous castles in 2006. In addition, it is also known as "Japan's Machu Picchu". Although there was no fog, the weather on that day was pretty good and the scenery was unobstructed Takeda Castle is very large, about 400 meters long from north to south and about 100 meters wide from east to west Due to the Edo Shogunate's "One Country, One Castle" order, Takeda Castle was abandoned and demolished in 1600. The "Takeda Castle Ruins" are known to everyone as the castle in the sky, but it is difficult to take a complete photo and see the Takeda Castle floating in the clouds when you stand on the Takeda Castle. At this time, you have to go to the Asakai Mountain Observation Deck "Ritsuunkyo" opposite the castle ruins. Here you can see the Takeda Castle Ruins very completely, and you can also take the most ideal photos when the clouds and mist are lingering. The prerequisite is to have good physical strength. There is an extremely steep staircase along the way, but when you step onto the last observation deck, you will feel that everything is worth it! The whole route is mostly uphill, and I think only 5% of the road is flat. There are crutches placed next to the entrance. It is recommended to take them so that you can walk more easily. Because there is a section of uphill slope that is all stairs, and it is quite steep, I really walked to the point where I called my mom XD The altitude of Mt. Chaolai is about 757 meters. There are three observatories on the mountainside. The photo was taken from the third observatory. It's really beautiful here. Although the climb to the observatory is painful, it's worth it to see such a beautiful view once you get there. Standing here, I feel so light, as if all the pressure in life has disappeared. I just want to sit here and relax, enjoying the relaxation brought by the present moment.
